I've said this before but there was a time you'd be proud to mention one of your family members made the county team. Nowadays you'd say nowt to save the ridicule. Hopefully things improve but I can't see it

Kilkenny have a football team they compete in the British championship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 120 ✭✭alphasully

And what are those in west cork supposed to do. very little to no hurling west cork. you just want to abandon them is it? give them nothing to aspire to?

Cork football has never recovered from Brian Cuthberts decision, to retire so many of the 2010 all Ireland winning team, back in the winter of 2013. That result today is devastating, i thought we had put these sort of performances behind us. Ronan McCarthy was a decent player for Cork, he has done his best as manager. We had a reasonable championship under him in 2019, we had a great win over Kerry last year, but any progress made under the current management has been shattered to pieces now. I think he has done as much as he can with the team, and i would like to see Keith Ricken being given the senior managers job for next year. The decision not to appoint John Cleary as Conor Counihans successor, has had serious and damaging repercussions for Cork football.

    Oh it is.

We have lost to Kerry by 18 points and 22 points in past 3 years. Lost a Munster final to Tipp(at home) who went on to be destroyed in the Semi final by Mayo.

Everyone wants a change of management but not even Micko himself could turn this Cork team into footballers.

Not 1 Cork player would get on the Dublin, Kerry, Mayo or Tyrone. Not 1.

We are struggling as a GAA County. Not won a AI in 11 years, only won 4 between two codes since 1990. If CCC board are not going take football seriously what is the point?

Give me a argument to tell me otherwise?

I'd agree with those who say give Ricken a go as senior manager.

His success with the u-20s has earned him a crack at it plus his knowledge of talent within the county must be extensive.

Kerry seem to have no problem assimilating their best young talents into the senior team whereas we don't either want or are incapable of doing so.

Our u-20 team would have done better out there today.

Apart from Meehan have any of the U20 winning team really broken through or been given the chance to break through?

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,045 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

    Thats not true

Take up rowing. World class at it too

  • Registered Users Posts: 120 ✭✭alphasully

west cork isn't just Skibbereen, there are areas in west cork that are a two hour drive away from Skibbereen

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,045 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Plenty people all over country can't play sports they like.

That doesn't sound right, where in West Cork is two hours from Skib?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭C__MC

Kind of sad the demise of Cork football

It should be remembered Cork won an u21 in 09 and made finals in 13 and 16.

Where has all this talent gone?

Played Garnish in Cahermore before. Not quite two hours from Skibb but a proper spin.

Your argument is one of the most mental I've seen on Boards recently and that's mixed in with Covid-19 stuff!

You want a county with the most GAA clubs in the country to give up one of the codes?

You want a county 4th in the roll of honour to give it up?

What was Cork's last all-ireland in, oh yea, football.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,415 ✭✭✭The White Feather

    Dublin next for the hurlers.

No easy games at the stage but I would fancy us to win. Wonder where it will be played. Its decided later today I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,045 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Enjoy watching Cork getting stuffed year on year for long time and then blaming it on the management. Rinse and repeat.

The fact we cant produce a footballer with the size of the county proves the point more then dispell it.

We won't win a Munster championship this decade while that kerry team is about.

Bar relatives you want be fair desperate to go to Kerry game down Pairc next time we play them. Another hammering will await.

Nothing will change this until CCC take football serious. They never have and they never will.

The size of the county and the best we can do is fight to stay in division 2. Embarrassing.

Happy enough with the draw, we have a reasonable chance of beating Dunlin. Will probably be on in Thurles. Tip v Wat probably in Cork.

If we win, a Wat win and its Kk in the semi, a Tip win and it's Lim.

All Ireland U20 football semi final v Offaly is on Saturday 5.15 in Portlaoise, live on TG4. Saw Offaly beat Dublin in Leinster, a fine team.

All Ireland hurling q/f v Dublin on Saturday in Thurles at 7pm live on Sky, Tip and Waterford in Cork earlier at 1.15.

Cork have had no real leaders in the side since the core of the Billy Morgan group emerged in the mid 00s.

They weren't always successful but the likes of Quirke, O'Leary,Canty,Miskella,Donnacha O'Connor had a major desire that made them contenders.

Once they left the doggedness to succeed has been lacking.

People go on about the sneaky carry on of Mayo and Tyrone but they will fight tooth and nail to compete. Cork with so many heavy defeats are nowhere near that.

Hurling game will be on Sky again. Can't remember the last time we've had a championship game on RTE.

Edit: last time Cork were on free to air was the 2019 quarter final against Kilkenny, 2 years ago.

I just came on here as Dub to see what Cork fans make of the hurling draw.

But I might as well give my 2 cent on yer footballers. As a neutral looking on I feel Cork do have the footballers. They are just not seriously cultivated, or let wither on the vine. Cork football had a serious squad of at least 20 plus players when they won the AI in 2010. Giants of men. One fella would be subbed and the fella who would come on would be just as good and just as tall. But for some reason that great squad suddenly disintegrated very quickly loads of early retirees. Which I thought was really odd at the time. Still can't get my head around that.

I remember Dublin played Cork a couple of years ago Cork seemed to have a game plan. Keep ball and make the backs do the real work. I seem to remember Dorman who had a particularly good game. The only problem was Cork could not sustain it and faded after 20 minutes or so. Similar to how that Kerry match panned out yesterday. Is it a fitness issue??

From the outside looking in I see Corks football problem a result of Hurling overshadowing it, it is obvious in the crowd differences in the two codes. The opposite problem Dublin have.

As for Cork fella's who would make the Dublin team. They would take the two Hurley brothers for a start. Brian would be pushing for a starting spot.

I think if Cork football got in a 'foreign manager' it could be the answer to lay down the law and not give a damn about Cork GAA politics.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

It said Thurles on the fixtures on the GAA website. As a Dublin supporter I am happy enough getting Cork both teams will think they have a chance of winning it as you say. Dublin's problem is lack of scoring forwards. Dublin need everyone fit and to fight like dogs - closing down etc to win I would say.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

It really is a very good minor team, half back line in particular is very strong and I would be expecting a win. Haven't seen Limerick though, but I would be surprised if they lose.

Any idea if we can watch this match this evening
