It's the sheer number of clubs in Cork that causes so many tiers. Next year there will be 4 tiers above Junior; Premier Senior, Senior A, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate.
Premier Senior will be 12 teams + Divisions
Senior A will be 12 teams, Premier Intermediate 12 teams and Intermediate will be 16 teams.

Kilshannig won the 4th tier competition this year but entered the Junior because for some reason Cork call their third tier competition intermediate.

If they stick with the entering the winner of the top intermediate and top junior competitions into Munster next year, it will be the case that the winner of the 3rd tier county championship will go into the Muster Intermediate and the winner of the 5th tier county championshiop will go into the Munster Junior competition.
The solution is blindingly obvious - called the 2nd tier Intermediate and the 3rd tier Junior and enter those tiers into the Munster competitions.

Just on the Kilshannig game I just heard that Na Gaeil may have used an extra substitute in that game and looking at the report in the examiner it seems they used 7. Don't know if this will have any bearing on the result.

Kilshannig would look silly if they went down that road after such a one sided game. Be different if it was a tighter result

I have seen blood subs included in the subs for match reports on occasion.
That would be my first guess.
Also the last sub was in the 64th minute when Na Gaeil replaced their keeper.
Fairly unusual to replace a keeper at that stage of a game. Kilshannig would want to have world-class poker faces to try and argue that this sub had any bearing on the result. Be very surprised if anything came from this.

Yeah I thought it might be a blood sub but haven't seen those in match reports that I can recall.

Last sub was the Goalkeeper who was taken off on a blood sub. Game ended 40 seconds later. No controversy.

Interesting note: both starting Keepers had to be replaced. Not sure I've ever seen it at a match before.

Cairde Chorcai website launched tonight with membership details - https://cairdechorcai.ie/

Interesting to read that they hope to double the number of full time coaches early next year and are in talks with UCC, CIT and other landowners about a permanent training base

I was looking at the ranking of the senior hurling teams how did they come up with the rankings I would have thought sars would be above Blackrock as they haven’t won a county since 2002 I believe group c is the group of death some good games there to look forward to.

It is based on points gained over the last 4 years championships.
    Sars
    2019 30 Lost in 1/4 final
    2018 30 Lost in 1/4 final
    2017 100 Lost in 1/2 final
    2016 10 Lost in Rnd 3

    Total 170

    Rockies:
    2019 10 Lost in Rnd 3
    2018 70 Lost in 1/2 final
    2017 150 Lost in final
    2016 30 Lost in Rnd 4

    Total 260

So barring this year Blackrock have outperformed Sars every year.

See link below from KrustyUCC very good excel file that shows all rankings and how calculated...

    Update today on Kieran O'Connor
To all #FriendsofKieran , we are delighted to share this update....

After 5 months of intensive treatment, Kieran had results of a full scan today.
While the cancer is still there, the results were positive in that it has regressed in some places & overall the doctors are pleased the treatment that he has been on for last while is doing its job.
He will be starting chemo again next week but they are happy that this treatment is working for him at this time.... Long road ahead but all the small battles count

Thank you sincerely for all for your kind messages, prayers & support for Kieran over the past few months, it has been absolutely incredible.

How are the clubs Delaneys, Brian Dillions, Redmonds and Saint Vincent's doing?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,533 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Delanys had a few rough years but they are beginning to thrive again. Underage has started again, a ladies team, girls underage mixed in with Vincent's for camogie and the junior footballers are one of the top teams in the city division.

    Dillons doing well too.

    Vincent's tipping away.

Redmonds hanging in there I think.

Dillons and Delanys trying to amalgamate.

Really? Wouldn't have thought so. Dillons won the City Hurling championship last year I think while they were in the football final 2 or 3 years ago. Delanys are certainly on an upward curve over the last 5 years, seems a very strange amalgamation and the first I've heard of it.

2020 will have 28 teams playing intermediate football, 12 at Premier Intermediate and 16 at Intermediate A.
Hurling will have 36 teams, 12 each at Premier Intermediate, Intermediate A and Lower Intermediate.
This will be reduced to 24 teams total for each at the end of 2021. Lower Intermediate grade in Hurling will see all but the winners relegated ("The Lower Intermediate Hurling championship grade is to be abolished at the end of 2021 with all teams regraded to Junior.

At the end of 2020, one team will be relegated from the new Lower Intermediate grade (5th grade). However, the Junior A winners from 2020 will go straight to Intermediate A (4th grade) along with Lower Intermediate winner (5th grade), with two teams relegated from Intermediate A (4th grade) to Lower Intermediate (5th grade).

At the end of 2021, two teams will be relegated from the Intermediate A grade (4th grade) to Junior A, along with the remaining eleven teams in Lower Intermediate (5th grade). They will be replaced by the 2021 Lower Intermediate (5th grade) winners and by the 2021 Junior A winners.")

Intermediate Football will be reduced from 16 to 12 teams in 2021 ("At the end 2021, the County Junior A champions will be promoted and 5 teams will be relegated from Intermediate A. These 5 teams will be selected as follows: the bottom team in each of the four groups along with a straight play-off involving the four 3rd placed teams to identify the fifth team to be relegated.")

Yep, they are. Don't think it's going to be allowed though.

Found out there was talk of them amalgamating for hurling only, 99% certain it wont happen though.
