A point i'd be interested to see what people think in all this is about the CB. Has there ever been a poorer one? What has Tim Murphy actually achieved in the last few years? I say him as he's the chairman and is supposed to be the head of everything. Other than thinking about the CB pockets when it's come to county finals. He's been part of a board who have made some terrible appointments at underage level that's left us again with no standout replacement for the senior job. Made of bad calls re couches for S&C etc

Id agree, its been all about the money lately. Added to this the fact they made junior/intermediate into group stages with lots of extra games, I feel that was about the gate money and not really about giving players more playing time. Might be wrong on that but its my gut feeling on it. €10 in to watch some of the intermediate games has been steep for what I've saw

Needs to be a major clear out of the CB

Spot on, there seems to be no new face coming through on the admin side of things.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭dobman88

Tim Murphy's time is up anyway thankfully so that's something. Seems to just be a few cronies coming along next though which is never ideal.

Did I read correctly that Tim Murphy is the only chairman to not oversee an all Ireland victory? Needless to say he won't be missed anyway.

As was mentioned before, they seem to have had more of a focus on the bottom line than happenings on the pitch in recent years

Also don't forget the farce of the streaming of games last year. Something they pretty much tried to pretend never happened.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭wonga77

The streaming was a complete farce, also previously not allowing the finals to be televised as it would affect attendance. Archaic thinking.

Come to think of it, I cant think of much they got right

Very little. The question is what was all this money spent on? You can't go anywhere without seeing an ad for the win a house in Killarney draw.

Outside of football their attitude to hurling has been worse. Playing lip service to it the last few years. Yet last year when the hurlers were the only Kerry team to make it to Croke Park they were very fast to get interested in them so the unseal hangers on got their free trip to Dublin.

Paddy Tally confirmed as the team coach. Has won a sigerson as manager with St Mary’s. Down manager the last few years but nothing won. Seems a strange call to bring a guy from that far away. He must be getting paid well for that journey a few times a week.

Arthur Fitzgerald comes in to the S&C team to assist Jason Mcgahan. An absolute joke of a decision to retain Mcgahan and also to include Arthur Fitzgerald. Arthur’s a nice guy but a million miles away from this level. Add Mike Quirke to this set up and I think it’s the worst management team we have ever had. Diarmuid Murphy is a small plus however. I feel Kerry football is going to take a massive backwards step here and could end up like the Cork footballers for a while to come.

On a side note, Tim Murphy’s interview on RTE was pathetic. Leaning forward with no eye contact; it sounded like he didn’t believe what he was saying. He will go down as the worst Kerry chairman of all time.

Hopefully the delegates to the Special Congress will approve Proposal B for next year's All-Ireland - granted, there are worries about the spring provincial games seeing only fringe players, but the same argument could be made for many of the current Munster fixtures. As for complaints about teams 6-8 in Division One seeing their season end, frankly if we can't finish in the top five after seven games, then we wouldn't deserve to play in the quarter-finals.

Proposal B looks the best but they could spice up the provincial championships by having the winner qualify for a preliminary qualifier something similar that how the tipp hurling championship works.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

I heard that a few delegates at the county board meeting were against the idea that teams placed 6-8 wouldn't make the quarter finals, I agree 100% with you if you finish in them positions after having seven games then you aren't good enough.

Unfortunate to see Okunbor injured in his return for Na Gaeil yesterday. He only lasted 19 minutes. Reportedly just a knock but really hope he wont be an injury prone lad because his potential is limitless!

Never a dull day. From Killarney Today.

"POPULAR Killarney businessman Patrick O’Sullivan has launched his bid to return to the Kerry GAA hotseat.

The Dr Crokes clubman has confirmed that he is to contest the election to succeed Tim Murphy as board chairman when the Brosna man’s five-year term ends in December.

O’Sullivan will go head-to-head with Eamon Whelan of the St Senan’s club in North Kerry and, if he succeeds, is will be his second time as chair having previously held the position from 2012 to 2016, with Kerry winning the All-Ireland in 2014.

O’Sullivan is the son of former Kerry selector Eddie Tatler O’Sullivan and brother-in-law to former senior team trainer Pat O’Shea.

The 54-year-old, who runs the Tatler Jack bar and restaurant on Plunkett Street, is a fundraising specialist and he has spearheaded many important projects for the Kerry GAA in the recent past, including the building of the Centre of Excellence in Currans.

Eamon Whelan, the current vice chairman, had already made his intentions known but there had been increased speculation in recent weeks that O’Sullivan would force the matter to a vote."

He got a bang in the hip and was taken off as a precaution. Nothing to do with his injuries from Australia.

Should be fine to line out against Castleisland on Saturday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭dobman88

Ah that's great to hear. The report had it as a "knock" so it was vague. Thanks for clearing it up. Not bad news so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,363 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Yeah hopefully nothing more comes up, but it sounds like a minor enough thing. Should be fine for the weekend. Not surprised that the lads are taking it handy with him on his return. A lot of different movements in GAA as opposed to AFL. Different points of contact in tackles as well. A lot of potential for knocks and injuries.

Also Stefan hasn't played in a good while with the VFL being cancelled quite a while ago. Best to ease him back into it.

    Does Pat Spillanes son play?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭Gael85

Pat Spillane playing senior with St Judes in Dublin. Playing well so far in championship. Came off bench against Lucan and scored 3 points and started last 2 games.

So more of the same again it seems. Do the same people just keep moving around jobs every few years.

Also ''fundraising specialist'' so we can expect to be bombard with most ticket sales everywhere we go...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭wonga77

And the usual begging fundraising trip to the states with all the ex-players...

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,800 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

I see in today's Examiner that he hurt himself in the warm-up for Saturday's match - seems to be a classic case of putting too much strain too soon on an existing injury.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭dobman88

Tommy Walsh finished with Kerry. A great servant to the county but i felt his time was up before last year. Hopefully he has plenty left with the club.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,180 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

He was awesome in 2009 but he was a mere shadow of the player he was when he returned from Australia. If he had not gone to play Aussie Rules he might have helped us to another All Ireland in 2010-2015 period. At 33 he is too old for the game and being a bit player for the last 4-5 years did not help. Has not had much to offer from the bench in championship for the last two years.

Yeah I wasn't at the match on Saturday so I'm not sure if it was really a warm-up injury of if the club has been playing down the initial injury he picked up last week and never intended to play him.

Regardless, it's bloody disappointing for Stefan. I'm sure he wants desperately to play with the lads, especially when they are going so well.

Beaufort gave Na Gaeil a good beating a few weeks back in the Refixed 2020 Intermediate Semi Final, so it will be very interesting to see how Na Gaeil have learned and progressed from that. I believe the Final won't be played until St Brendan's and Mid Kerry are both out of the County Championship.

They faced off in the Junior (or it might have changed to Junior Premier by then) Final a few years back and it was a cracking game. I thought Na Gaeil were the better team that day but let in shocking goals and Beaufort went on to win in Extra Time. Perhaps a chance for revenge for Na Gaeil and an opportunity to go up to Senior for the first time ever.

So, the Congress delegates have been given a free vote for Saturday, and will decide when the merits of the various proposals have been outlined - seem to be leaning towards the status quo, going by Tim Murphy's statement about the clubs wanting the Super 8s, but we'll learn by the weekend, perhaps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭dobman88

I see absooutley no reason to "wait and see" what argument will be made. Surely all the debate has happened and nothing new will be said.

It's been great to see all the counties publicly nailing their intentions but very disappointing to see Kerry hold back. Seems like they wont be voting for proposal B. Sooner Murphy is gone the better. Inept leadership.

Arent the Super 8s gone anyway? If a nd b go down we revert to the old quarter finals

This is one of things Tim Murphy will be remembered for as chairman. He never wants to make a call on his own and always wants to ''wait and see''
