I get very hard of hearing when loud music is involved and trying to read lips with strangers is a bit embarrassing.

    Same here.

A quick 'What?' works but after one or two attempts I give up.

Us ancient ones have lost the acute hearing yous youngsters have after going to too many loud festivals in our own youth.

My hearing is still top notch but I find recently that what used to be just background noise is now more prominent.

Agree, can hear a pin drop, but trying to distinguish voice over loud music is difficult for me

My 4k - 18k filter is less than optimal

    I enjoyed the free chipsticks

I'd say my upper frequency threshold is less than 18kHz but it's the background noise that infiltrates and seems to drown out the conversation that I'm trying to listen to.

Normal conversational vocal range is below 1kHz but sh1tty sound systems put out so much power in the same frequency band as human conversation that it drowns out the typical conversation.

You have a older persona from your typing than your actual years on the earth. Me thinking you are an old sole is a compliment for your youth.
