Works out at only a tenner a game here, if you plan ahead & buy the Spring Series ticket for €40. Good value when we have four home games. Not so good when we only have three. Parnell Passes & season tickets get you in for free.

Not much consolation to someone who only decides to go the day of the match I suppose.

Is there an equivalent to the spring series ticket over this side of the country?

Dunno. Ours is Dublin specific. Check with the co board of the individual county. They might have a multi game ticket option.

I do not believe there is any equivalent to the Dublin spring series ticket.

    Lads, looking for some help.
My dads mate and the man who I've traveled to Mayo matches with for the last 35 years has now had to get a walking aide due to failing health, so we are hoping to bring him to Mchale park for the Roscommon game. We can drive up close which is grand, but from there to the stand I've no experience or can't find an answer or an email or phone number to contact to find out.
But is there disabled access or lifts or seats for someone like this man?

    Any help appreciated.

There is definitely an elevator in the centre of the stand and I'm 100 per cent sure it is used for disabled access.

Yes, and they do have plenty of space up there for wheelchair users with a great view of the pitch.

I think you need a lift pass. I would ring them!

When I was in crutch's, they let us drive right up to the gate, and got parking. They'd asked me ifI'd a lift pass but I didn't, just hobbled along front of stand. Shouldn't be a problem getting one. You'd be right up at the back of the stand, make sure to wrap up warm, does be a fierce cold breeze there!

Mayo begin their 2019 Allianz football league campaign against familiar opposition as we face Roscommon on Saturday night in Elverys MacHale Park.

Manager James Horan back in charge for a second spell has continued his youth first policy by handing out two debuts for his opening league game with forwards Brian Reape and Conor Diskin both playing national league football for the very first time.At the other end of the scale it's also a landmark occasion for Jason Doherty who will be making his 100th appearance in the green and red on Saturday night. He made his league debut against Kerry in 2011.

    1. Robert Hennelly - Breaffy
    2. Eoin O'Donoghue - Belmullet
    3. Brendan Harrison - Aghamore
    4. Keith Higgins - Ballyhaunis
    5. Lee Keegan - Westport
    6. Colm Boyle - Davitts
    7. Paddy Durcan - Castlebar Mitchels(C)
    8. Diarmuid O’Connor - Ballintubber
    9. Donal Vaughan - Castlebar Mitchels
    10. Fergal Boland - Aghamore
    11. Aidan O’Shea - Breaffy
    12. Jason Doherty - Burrishoole
    13. Evan Regan - Ballina Stephenites
    14. Brian Reape - Bohola Moy Davitts
    15. Conor Diskin - Claremorris

David Clarke was on the bench against Galway in Tuam.

I'd imagine a lot of the lads are well rested with the early championship and anxious to play

Almost half that team are 25 or under

There are still loads of young lad out there for Mayo.

Hope fully the two new guys in the forwards show us something and hopefully Regan can have an injury free league and show some consistent form.

Good to see Boland back, has he bulked up ?

Great to see two young lads in the full back line also.

Not a whole lot Father Tod.

Really hoping James Horan will give youth it's day to an even greater degree within reason.

I hope Michael Plunkett gets a shot at it in the half back line and Matthew Ruane in midfield.

Disappointed Matthew Flanagan or an alternative keeper didn't get any opportunity during the FBD.

I thought Conor Loftus might have given James Horan more to think about in that first half of the Galway game.

Love to Ryan O Donoghue even at this stage get a bit of inter county experience.

A bit odd that Mayo are playing so many of their championship starters for round 1 of the NFL. A good number of those players have loads of mileage of the clock and should be rested this time of year.

I can see where Horan is possibly going with that, but it could be a double edged sword.
Last few years Mayo have been slow to get going in the championship and were lucky not to be caught out in the qualifiers a few years before last year.

He is probably looking to get them up to speed earlier by using the league to do so. Problem is, there are a lot of miles on some of those legs, so burn out could be a problem later on. A few knocks during the league wouldn`t help either. Not much recovery time between league and championship nowadays.

Maybe he wants to win it ?
Alternatively maybe he wants to ensure safety early on and then mix it up in latter stages as championship approaches

Whatever about that I can not understand the keeper situation.
Number 1- not giving another keeper a chance in FBD to be backnuo to Clarke
Number 2- it now seems Clarke may actually be the yhe back up !!!!!!

Horan has shown in the past he can be a stubborn man . I hope he isn’t basing this decision on his past tenure 5 years ago
Hennelly has not improved in that time and Clarke has shown he is up there with the best

Saw him playing for Tooreen a few months back where he was the best player on the pitch, and up against the Galway Centre Back

If he can be near as effective in football, bulking up is the least we need to worry about, incredibly lively with bags of speed and an eye for goal

I'd always be hesitant enough to criticise any league selections

We have absolutely zero access to what is going on in the training ground and behind the scenes. Often you'll have players carrying an odd knock that there is no need to risk aggravating so early in the year, some lacking in fitness after the break, some needing a break after playing colleges/club football etc.

There also needs to be a balance struck between blooding in new players and being competitive

One thing is for sure, we need to hit the ground running. With only 5 points (our two wins coming against an understrength and rusty Monaghan and Kildare who lost every match) I still don't know how we somehow stayed up last year

And possibly Regan from the left ......

Mayo will be targeting beating Roscommon, Cavan and Monaghan - all home games. 6 points will be enough to stay up. The odds are against them beating Tyrone, Dublin and Kerry away. And the Galway game in Castlebar could go any way. If they lose the first game against Roscommon, they are straight away under the cosh. And under pressure to get a result against one of the big guns. Easy to see why he would out a strong team for first game.

Mayo lads enjoyed their first break in years. Literally didn't know what to do with themselves with the long summer break People saying the big guns should be rested. They just had a pretty long break.

Maybe Horan has seen the light and wants to give the league a go. Winning mentality from the start.

    Happy with that selection.
We've for 2/3 years struggled through the league, going into the last 1-2 games with relegation hovering over us. For fans and players thats a mental strain, then go straight into the championship with that drainage already in the minds and bodies.

We haven't won in normal time at home in 3 years (I think), we haven't gone top of the league in god knows how many years.

We NEED to win Saturday, we need to break this home lack of win, we need it to get the players off to a positive start, we need it for the fans not to be on the players and managers job.
Winning is a habit, get used to winning and continue the form.

    Simplistic view I know.

There is a serious amount of competition all over that squad now, no player is assured of a spot and are more under pressure this year than for many years previous.

15,000 expected in MacHale park on Saturday eveing

"A huge turnout – possibly up to 15,000 – is expected for the joust, under lights, between the arch-rivals at Elvery’s MacHale Park. But the contest has created significant health and safety concerns due to GAA fans parking on the hard shoulder of the N5 national primary route as it approaches Castlebar. Fears have been raised of possible injuries, even death, as fans leave and return to their vehicles under cover of darkness."

    Death!!! Ah come on.

They have cars in Roscommon, I'm sure they get out at night and know that the big thing approaching at speed isn't a sheep with a headlight and will kill you unless you get out of the way! :D

My Dad will want to go at 1pm now!!!!

hennelly is a no go area for me he had his chance

There’s a reason Clarke has an all star and hennelly doesn’t
