Anyone have RTÉ player working on the Shields? We have no broadcast TV any longer after ditching Sky and trying to figure out how we’ll watch the Toy Show on Friday night

    Install PuppetmasterTV at: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.puppetmaster.redux&hl=en

Then install the REKODI puppet - have a look at Public Service Broadcasters.... RTE are there :-)

I've had a SATV since 2015 and the two apps I'd love are All4 and RtePlayer... still, no dice
    Hi,
I have 2015 Shield and have both RTE & Channel 4 Apps working. The RTE Player version is 1.0.8 and the ALL4 version is 6.0.2  You will need either the game pad or connected keyboard / mouse (a must have for STV) to navigate within each of the Apps.  You can even add icons to the home screen using 'TV App Repo'.  There was even an 'Irish TV' add-on for Kodi / SPMC but I'm not sure if this still works. Hope this helps.

Any chance you could share the steps? My controller has been like this for quite a while, sounds exactly like your issue

Reset SHIELD Controller by holding the Voice Search (NVIDIA logo) button for at least fifteen seconds.
    2. Go to Settings >> Apps >> System apps >> Bluetooth Share app
Force stop, clear cache and data.
Repeat this for Shield controller app.
    3. Finally restart Shield TV and try pairing the controller wirelessly.

Just to note, i had tried resetting the controller last night but had it plugged in at the time. The guy i was talking to said it had to be unplugged. I can't try the above till i get home. Hopefully it does the job.

Loving it so far however I can't get Amazon prime to work for me and I think it's because it recognises that I have an Irish Google account, does anyone know of a way around this?

Amazon prime works fine on my laptop but not on my phone or the shield.

Same problem with amazon prime. Would love a solution to this.

I'll try that later on tonight, this morning i tried a workaround of casting from my laptop and sure enough it works perfectly.

I'm over in the UK next month so I can always set up a Google account over there with a UK payment and hopefully that should be it fully sorted but I'd rather not have to wait until then to fix.

One more thing, I logged into Netflix to check that it worked ok, I still had the VPN running however I got a message that it detected I was using a proxy and wouldn't turn on until I turned the VPN off. Is that normal as I've seen a thread about signing up for Netflix via Mexico as it's the cheapest option.

I am using a Mexican Netflix account without any issues.

You only need the VPN to sign up and subscribe. After that it's not needed

Can 3 credit be used to pay for it via the Google play store, this is how I currently pay for Netflix Ireland?

    Get a Revolt account/card .

Thanks looks like it'll be cheaper for me to continue to pay for Netflix Ireland via my 3 credit as I always have loads spare unless I find something else useful to spend it on.

Do you currently use your credit to pay for Netflix?

Lads I'm trying to cast photos from my phone to the TV but the photos were taken in landscape mode but when I cast them to the shield they show in portrait mode and they look terrible.

I have tried to install a few of the "set orientation" apps but I get an error message saying they are not compatible with my device.

I get the same error when I try to install the RTE app

Anyone have a workaround for this?

    Thanks lads

Have auto rotate on on your phone. Hold your phone in landscape. The exact same thing you'd do if viewing on your phone.

If you don't need the controller/joy pad, the Shield TV is £143 on Amazon currently

    If it's a daily deal it's only until 11.59pm.

It is on sale across Europe. But after shipping to Ireland is included it usually works out at the same price.
Around €160 with remote and joypad delivered.
Look on Geizhals.eu and idealo or preis
I am unable to at the minute, but it would be odd for the price to go back up as standard (for long) after Christmas.

i.e. I would not pay the higher price when it goes back up.

I don't believe you are correct. It's only with the remote and not the remote + joypad as you mentioned.

If you do see it where it includes the joypad let us know.

I will. Unfortunately i will not be able to look much over the next few days, but i if i do i will post it here.
I am sure that i have seen it on sale on a few sites.
It could be that the price has gone up expecting buyers to be under more pressure to get it approaching Christmas.

Anyone using a keyboard with their shield which doesn't have volume buttons? Want to reconfigure buttons to act as volume +/- to take advantage of the HDMI CEC control of an amp. With the Nvidia remote it works fine, and a keyboard with volume buttons but not without :(

I look forward to hearing back. I've seen you spot some other bargains so I'm sure if you have seen it then you have seen it.

Crap, i hope i am right now.. :D

I did definitely see it on Friday/Saturday night, i was going to post but had another beer.. :)

I read more comments and i think it was MediaMarkt (Germany) with cashback. €10 - €15 using mailboxde.com and it was on sale on a few other places. Majority were similarly priced. I will have a decent look when i get the chance.

Can be got locally, loaded with warranty, e270, know it's not an out and out bargain, but got mine from a guy I buy a lot of electronic gear from, and piece of mind is worth it, best bit of kit I've used, and have had a few android boxes, really recommend 2017 shield

ye got that right, it’s a rip-off. And in terms of peace of mind, Amazon are better than anyone to deal with if issues arise imo.
