I'd say Géibheann and Gnáth together are unlikely but we should get one of them, outside of those I'm going over Spailpín, Mo-Ghrá Sa and Hurlamaboc, Dís.

Hi! So I need some assistance with Irish and History if someone could help- im HL for both!
I've left Irish until the last minute but have learnt off my Dioma story, so guaranteed at least 14% there.
If I learn off Acoimhres (summaries) for the prose and poetry should I get some marks? I'm not aiming for the full 30 marks just want something instead of leaving the question blank!
For history I'm learning off essays instead of learning pointless info, is this a good idea?

For the Irish stories and poems my teacher didn't really give us a lot of notes? I have the gleasnotaí book but I cannot understand the notes as they're not translated. Do you think I would get away with the notes I have? They're basically just some on characters, a summary and themes. Or should I have some on imagery

Definitely learn some things on imagery for your poems. Maybe a couple of lines on poetic technique or language/form too just to be safe.


Lol at the chap bringing Bulmers into every exam, I think a lot of girls in my year were threatening to bring in straight vodka instead of water

I'm just gonna leave out the Caca Milis, Oisin, An tEarrach Thiar and Colscaradh. I'll look over them then the night before just in case!

So far I've done Hurlamaboc, Gnathrud & Dis for the Pros and Geibheann, Mo Ghra sa & Spailpin Fanach for filiocht.

Be very cruel for the department to not give us one of those but they've certainly been throwing up surprises this year so might have cram in those last few ones

I don't know why but I'm convinced it's going to be Geibheann & Hurlamaboc / Gnathrud. I'll still go over the other ones a small bit though.

What essays are people learning? Also for An Triail what are the chances of a question on Padraig?

I've learned 4 essays (mental health, education system, alcohol and drugs, problems of young people) I don't know why but I think something very broad like 'international problems' could come up so I wish I had something to learn on Brexit/Trump/Terrorism/Refugees and combine them all to one essay.

I'm mainly focusing on EU, Refugees and the Environment. I'll just glance over other stuff that I could throw into a general essay on problems in Ireland or something! Hopefully I'll be ok!

For an triail I'm guessing it'll either be something about the other characters besides Maire. Probably Padraig, Mailli, or maybe her family. Other than that it could be a Single Mothers question or a question on Irish society in the 60s or maybe a dramatic techniques question. That's everything I'm going to go over anyways!

Was just wondering something with regards to Irish essays; do examiners mind if you make up facts that aren't true in your essays. Reason being to strengthen your argument on the topic.

Never opened a book for Irish because I'm pass, and the tape examiner said I did really well so what do we study for OL irish paper 1??

It's more about your standard of Irish than the information. Obviously don't write something ludicrous.

I have EU, homelessness, mental health, terrorism and maybe health system (if I'm arsed looking over it) for Irish but am still very worried hate how u really don't know what they'll ask

I have homelessness, the EU/Brexit, the future of Irish, and the refugee crisis, but haven't been able to learn any of them yet. I'm getting really antsy because I feel like I should have mental health, sport, the health/education system, or terrorism as well, but we've never covered those topics in class before and I don't have enough time to get any of them written/learned on top of everything else.

I'd say if you learned points about Refugees/Terrorism/Brexit/Mental Health you'll get an essay for one or more of those topics. The environment is a trendy Irish essay topic too and hasn't come up since 2013 I believe so might be worth preparing one of that.

Anyone else from the Gaeltacht in disbelief at the amount of "learning off" essays that goes on in Irish :')

I don't learn off essays word for word or anything because I'm just ****e at that and it's too much for me, but there's key sentences and vocab I always have to try and learn and recite a million times in my head because my memory is just so bad. Always have wished I was a Gaeilgeoir or something lol

Yeah, I learn off sentences and then fit them around the title. It'd be such an advantage to be from the Gaeltacht, I'd love that!

Well, given how many people whose first language is English learn off essays for English, it really shouldn't come as a surprise that people learn off essays for Irish, French, etc.

Paper one is tomorrow. struggling a bit with the essay's. Any idea of what essay could appear? Fadhbanna came up last two years and i have a good idea writing them but doubt it will be up this year?

My teacher said that something could come up on Todhchaí na Gaeilge or something similar since last year at the time the papers were being written was the 20th anniversary of TG4.
I think something on refugees, the European Union/Brexit, or terrorism could come up as well. Others are mentioning sport and the health/education systems but I've never covered those and won't be learning them.

It's a story not an Aiste! You learn it and then you take the word dioma out and put in the other word that comes up! If the story doesn't make sense with the word then it's not end of the world as I think it's 10/20% for the actual story and 80% for my Irish! I've learnt it word perfect so should be okay !
