The episode was dedicated to actor Norm Macdonald (Yaphit), who passed away from cancer shortly before airing.

Macdonald died on September 14, 2021 of cancer,[10] after filming of Season 3 had concluded but in the middle of its post-production, leaving Yaphit's status uncertain. Macdonald had been able to record all of his lines prior to passing.[11]

I must say the remote drone workbees on The Orville are a brilliant idea.

    SPOILER WARNING

Awe poor Issacc. You can say what you like but I think he has feelings.

Am leaving the spacedock scenes and the walking on the hull and all the technobabble and then the whole scene with the Orville leaving just beautiful and the music too reminds me of the Enterprise in Star Trek leaving spacedock. What a scene. Once again the Orville proves it is more Star Trek than Trek Itself.

Just finished watching it. I must say it was excellent. It has a proper real world delema about if its right or not and a different look and point of view from an alien on that delimma too.

Things that Star Trek used to do.

Strange New Worlds has been good do so hopefully Star Trek will get back to being more about real world issues and human issues and delimas.

    Just caught up tonight.

Damn that was a strong episode. I enjoyed it but not as the sci-fi comedy it set out to be all those years ago. It's as if Seth MacFarland has conceded that title to Mike McMahon and the Lower Decks crew and is bringing the Orville in a new more mature direction. No bad thing in my books. Even Gordon was bearable.

The only thing, I like the music but it's overly loud. It's dominating some scenes

The orvile does not quite know what it is. Is it a comedy drama? Galaxy Quest.

Or is it a rebooted star trek generation?

Maybe it knows what it is but we haven't seen enough to know what it is yet?

Wake me up when it's all over.

I have to admit i was slightly bored by the first episode of season 3. Mainly down to the episode length.

There was too many fantastical musical segments showing the outside of the ship. The new little ship going on a frankly dangerous joy ride to fight 4 drones was a bit silly. If they just have one of these ships then I think it’s a bit crap. It’s like they want to take a bit of Star Wars/Battlestar Galactica and add it into the Orville by giving it an x-wing/viper type ship.

The dilemma of having Isaac still on the ship was really good. Although I almost would have liked a recap at the start as it’s been what 3 years since season 2. I forgot the details of it all.

The episode length was my only real problem though. It just went on too long.

That was a great episode of Star Trek.

Finally got around to watching it. Was a great opening episode. Special effects were brilliant, enjoyed the plot. Good start to the season.

Yes the same here. I was very disspointed there was not one so checked out one on You-Tube first before watching it but that did not help much either. May just buy the box set in a few years time

The latest episode is also very good. Not many laughs in it maybe 2 or 3 at the most. It is certainly a show that is taking itself more seriously now. There was similarities in this episode to Stargate and to Star Trek most notably on episode or two from Voyager at least to me there was.

I kind of predicted what was going to happen.

Issac talking to the Admiral was funny when he started mentioning sexual positions lol.

There was a laughter at the end of the episode too.

I was just dissapointed we did not here how many crew they lost. Maybe we will in the next episode.

I can't believe how much I disliked how easily they gave up on the crew. Given the speed of subsequent transformations there had to be dozens of transformed crew members.

This smacks of the lazy Trek stories which plagued Voyager and early Enterprise.

Captain, First Officer, CMO, Security Chief, AND an Admiral all go across to random abandoned station X

No one is in protective gear.

Admiral gets hit by unknown agent, which begins changing him.

    No one quarantined.

    Admiral is not isolated

    Admiral is not restrained

Shuttle crew is in protective gear but take helmets off, in shuttle, knowing that bioscanners missed something.

Admiral has codes to disable the ship

    Kids randomly wander around

CMO leaves post to look for kids

Isaac is immune but not at the front of any defensive posturing

Crew immediately decide to kill off transformed friends, captain only one to question this.

People seem to be going about their daily business after a horrific attack

Did season 2 actually conclude with anything concrete? All I remember is a big space battle but it seems episode 1 started sometime after the battle!

I had to check that I hadnt skipped an episode or something.

other than that I thought it was top notch, really filling a gap that used to be occupied by TNG, VOY & DS9.

Played the episode but multi-tasking and tuned out for most of it, so have it on replay, even knowing the ending.

I’m really not feeling this season. Episodes are too long. The humour that you expect is gone for the most part. Not sure I’ll keep watching. If i do i may just skip a lot if it and watch an episode in 15 minutes.

I agree it is a pity that they changed the formula. Yes some of the humour in the previous seasons was overdone or stupid but there was good humour too. I think they should have just kept the humour but try to do it more like in Star Trek TNG where Data would say something or do something that was not meant to be funny but would be. The episodes are a bit too long all right but I will stick it out.

I huess HULU did not want that.

Is it true that Seth Macfarlane is done with the show?

The Orville Is Losing Seth McFarlane After Season 3, Our Scoop Confirmed

Seth MacFarlane has an extremely heavy hand in the making of the series, as he is the creator along with being an executive producer, writer, director, and star of the show. If he was looking to branch out and create more shows or movies, it would likely be difficult due to the time commitment of wearing that many hats.

MacFarlane, meanwhile, is in the midst of creating his upcoming Peacock series Ted, which is based on his movies of the same name. MacFarlane will also return to voice the character. Scott Grimes from The Orville was also cast in a role for the upcoming series.

    Will it survive without him?

I'd surprised to see he'd abandon it, I thought it was more of a personal passion project for him. But with the cast released, and no sign of a season 4, it doesn't sound like it's entirely his choice.

Sounds like he is not too happy with the direction in which Hulu? has taken the show.

It will be interesting to see if there is a season 4. I guess it will depend on the viewing figures.

    Really enjoyed S03E02 - wasn't mad on S03E01

I'm giving this another go. Am about 3 episodes into Season 2 (So I'm flying over the posts above to avoid spoilers). I still find the tone shift jarring (Although it is much more bearable than the first couple). I mean the Sci-Fi sections stick to solid Trek/pulpy storylines. Not exactly breaking any new ground there. So far, most has been done elsewhere.

But it's solid Trek fare and then an alien that looks like a huge dick appears selling porn or someone comes onto the bridge and goes "Hey guys. Sorry I'm late" to the Captain and XO and it takes me right out again. They dialed back the navigator quite a bit (I have no problem with them talking to eachother off-duty, they are all friends/know echother. But on the bridge it distracts me still.

^^^ Above link will eventually have episode breakdown, so Spoiler Warnings!

Mind Games, enjoyed that episode more than last weeks.

The episode has tie backs to a Season 1 Episode Mad Idolatry and the Multiphasic Planet

The deadly situations have been created by an immortal alien being, with the ability to mold reality to their will, that wishes to experience death. In introducing this species, The Orville has introduced their own version of the Q Continuum.

That was quiet a good episode. I was thinking at first the Kaylon but never seen that coming. More enjoyable than the last two episodes. This one was more comprehensive and competent. There was not many mistakes or rushed pieces that I could see in this episode.

That was quite an interesting and, dare I say it, complex episode.

I was suspicious of Talla arriving back early, but then that got left behind when they headed towards the planet and things changed. My first thought, which lasted for most of the episode was:

    https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Shore_Leave_(episode)

mainly because each of the crew seemed to be having their own "experience", which were always quite dangerous.

Very good episode, once again. Happy with this season. This show is just TNG with some new paint and humour. And I'm perfectly happy with that.
