The vast majority do actually work and work hard. The problem is officially they don't so pay no taxes. That would be fine if the rest of us didn't have to prop up the lifestyle.

Their unemployment rate is 80% so I'm assuming a lot of this unofficial work isn't just the odd nixer....

Combining Retail merchandise sales and being a part-time Magician are popular options.
Or following a scientific career exploring the outer limits of Tarmac-thinness. Many are also gainfully employed in selling roofing repairs using the "Elastic-quote" method which has proven to be an excellent sales tool.
Some of the less scrupulous ones have fallen into currency trading where the validity of the currency being traded may be compromised, or the good-old reliable Antiques business, made all the more profitable by the simple technique of employing extreme low-cost stock acquisition methods followed by Upselling via export. Others engage in the age-old Traditional trade in power-tools, again, employing best practice in low-cost stock acquisition.

Others still are involved in the Pharmaceutical distribution business, whereby erm, medicines are sold on an ad-hoc basis, whether wholesale or retail..often falling slightly short of FDA standards. More still are involved in the recreational tobacco trade. A tiny minority that tar the rest with a bad name are involved in the Home-Security industry whereby they test homeowners alarm systems-many of these ones are also heavily involved in the resale of portable valuables, source unknown. The less go-getter ones follow the trade of Recycling Operative, whereby they engage in Green Initiatives, mainly in the reclaimed metals sector.
    It's very diverse.

Most of the ones who will speak honestly and openly about their career choices say they are very engaged with the Insurance business- this is mainly the more clumsy types who are accident prone and therefore not suited to other forms of employment. I'm presuming they work as underwriters or in call-centers. They didn't elaborate, they just said "Insurance is where it is at" and left it at that. Being Travvelers, I'm guessing they gravitated to the Motor-insurance sector -cultural relevance and all that.

That would be a blatant act of discrimination against people who hate other ethnic groups. There should be a General Racism forum, and maybe smaller subforums for particular groups like Travellers, Muslims, etc.

You forgot the acquisition, sale and export of raw materials for the Chinese traditional medicine industry.

I know some travellers but I don't know whether or not they can speak Irish. What makes you think they don't?
It's not a lot of use to most people in 2017.

Travellers don't have any affinity to the Irish language. Objected to a regenerated area taking on an Irish name and stated my first line as the reason
