What you are essentially getting at is, you would report the child porn immediately but give someone a chance to explain away animal porn?

Edit: it is unnerving to hear someone wouldn't want any sexual crime punished as severely as possible.

actions against animals do not carry the same sanctions as against children, Thats a fact of life . Morally the arguments are all over the place as it depends on where you place animals in the scale of things

Hand back the laptop and report them. I really REALLY cannot stand cruelty to children and animals. It fills me with rage. If they are not responsible let them prove it to the cops. If they are not responsible they are at least aware and haven't said anything and that is just as bad IMHO.

personally I would be inclined to do this. even if against my better judgement, unless its very clearly very illegal, you could end up begin dragged into the case ( he claims you placed it there etc )

Yes, although it depends on where you got it and whether you own it or streamed it.

If you know a crime has possibly been committed and you don't report it then you are as guilty as the friend with the illegal images and those that produced them. Especially where child pornography is concerned.
