Sounds like he ordered the One Plus 5 and changed his mind and got an S8 Plus which is now his main phone. So guess the 5 is still sealed.

I actually have an S8 Plus since launch and regret it for one reason. It has annoying random frame drops on the home screens. Took a couple of weeks for it to start. I factory reset it and was grand for a week. There is no root cause to this and it happens randomly. Doesn't matter if it's the snapdragon or exynos version. Interestingly Techzilla over on youtube has the Korean snapdragon version with 6GB ram and hasn't seen any slowdown yet.

Really the only thing the S8+ has going for it is the amazing amoled 6.2 inch screen and Netflix and Youtube even cropped to fill the screen looks amazing. I was considering selling it and going for a HTC U11 which is visibly a far smoother UX, camera just as good if not better, and best audio ever on a smartphone (speakers and headphones). Minus's are large bezels, outdated looking native apps, and an IPS panel which runs the risk of backlight bleed. However a One Plus 5 is another possible candidate for me. Fastest and smoothest phone ever, better headphone audio then s8, almost stock UX but large bezels, jury is out on camera I guess and not sure if having a 1080p amoled is a negative. Didn't hurt the IP7+ with an IPS and is probably good for battery.

The audio focus sounds amazing allright on the U11. Very useful feature. Found it strange that Pocketnow rated the U11 dacs/dongle very poorly. HTC10, G6, IP7, and S8 faired better for headphone output in terms of noise, dynamic range etc.. (when using the dongle). And the excellent usb unsonic headphones only work on the U11.

I'll definitely be getting rid of the S8 plus. Today again with the lag using the google photo app. Very annoying.

Here is a good comparison by Saf of the One Plus 5 camera against the IP7 Plus. I'd be happy enough with the shooter on the 5. OIS is only omission I am dissapointed with

Interestingly Pocket Now liked the metering on the One Plus 5 in their real camera review, but found the U11 overexposed shots regularly despite the excellent score from dXo mark.

What I mean is that they cheated on the benchmark tests previously thereby rendering current benchmark tests worthless.

Maybe its because OP are cheating the benchmarks.

How did you establish that? The bezels don't look large to me but then I've not experienced some of the infinity type displays that are available on other phones.

Is some amount of bezel not required to facilitate a decent case?

At a risk of getting a card here, lads will ye put the Samsung v OP stuff to bed please! It's getting like the soccer forum in here with the bickering.

Yes but they also did it for the OP3/t so lets have at it and still benchmark the F$%^ers!

Its not how many points is good, its using the same apps on both phones, open time and memory holding count and so on.

WITH MY EYES!! :) Trust me the U11, Pixel and 5 all have large bezels (large heads and chins) compared to the S8 and G6. I'm talking about the vertical.

Give over. I mentioned 11 posts ago I was thinking of selling my S8 plus and getting a One Plus 5. I gave the reason as lag which the One Plus phones don't seem to have. There was no bickering.

As for the benchmarks, they don't bother me in the slightest. What does bother me is when a flagship phone gives a less than smooth experience as has been the case with my S8+. So investigating new possibilities. So far the One Plus 5 is in the lead and very interested in peoples experiences over the next few weeks.

Anyone notice when you connect the OP5 to a PC/Laptop and choose "file transfer" mode it registers both the phone internal storage AND a "D" drive with a "OnePlus USB Drivers Setup .EXE" file and a "OnePlus Setup .EXE" file?

I clicked both but didn't notice anything being installed on my laptop.

Any idea what these are supposed to do?

I just assume they are drivers also OnePlus phones have had two drives when connected to computer since the OnePlus 2.

ive briefly played with it and wont use it till i get the case and tempered glass because of the type of work i do.... anyway i got my one plus 3 back the same day as i got the 5 after sending it back for repair due to screen bur on the bottom where the soft key buttons are on the screen ya know the square and triangle icon's, well after a year of they burned through......soooooooo i fear that this one will do the same as the bottom part of the screen when you drag the menu up from is constantly dark which will burn in there eventually i guess

is there any way of changing that does anyone know? ive not messed about with it to much so im not sure

Just to post early impressions: very fast, quick and responsive. Fingerprint sensor fast and accurate with much fewer bad reads (hardly any tbh) compared to Xperia Z5 that I used to have a few years back. Display looks good and hard to imagine that more than 1080 res would make it better. Phone feels nice in the hand with the thinness being particularly impressive and the OnePlus Karbon case adds very little bulk. Everything seems functional. Camera does seem a little disappointing though. Detail in many shots not at the level you'd expect for a phone of this price although I'm aware that you can spend even more on an S8 or U11 for better cameras. Videos are just OK as well. Hopefully some software updates will improve the overall image processing in both. Need to play with it a bit more too and see images on bigger screen but they don't look that much better than those from the VF Smart Ultra 6 that I'd been using since my Xperia was stolen. Dash charge is pretty fast - went from 8% to 99% in 60-70 mins or so. Wifi performance faster than old phone as well. 177k in Antutu compared to 133k for my wife's S7 - allowing 10% for cheating that's still an impressive score. Overall, top marks except for the camera where there jury is still out and OnePlus may make improvements via software updates.

For fairness, ask the same question in an iPhone 7 thread :pac:

Can you get a case for the Oneplus 5 that can enable it to be wireless charged?

I do not see the fascination of wireless charging. You would charge the device a lot quicker with the supplied charger and cable using dash charge.

Don't think that it supports wireless charging at all tbh.

That's just the way the launcher is built dude, there doesn't appear to be a setting to change it.
You might want to get a different launcher.
I was using Google Now launcher, but it hasn't been updated in forever.
I hear Nova is very customisable :)
