May not be the thread for this, but, can anyone tell me if there is a safe walking route from the bus station to the Creggan hotel? and how long it takes?

    TIA

When you say safe, what do you mean?

I've only seen that route from the motorway, I have no idea if the other route has a path all the way/crossings and the like.

Bus Eireann run a bus service in town, it will bring you from the bus station to the Creggan Court. It's a long enough walk, Google Maps puts it at 48 minutes.

Thanks, it's not clear to me if it's a safely walkable route, is it?
thankfully no luggage, so the length of the walk is ok for me in that case.

Yeah there are footpaths the whole way. When you get close to it on the Dublin Road the path is only on one side of the road.

Okay if it's daytime just leave the station. Turn on the GPS on your phone and enter the hotel name it will direct you out. Footpaths all the way.

If your coming from the East/Dublin, ask the driver if he'll let you out near Kilmartins. Hotel's near the services there.
The slow buses (i.e Multi stop) go by it. A sound driver will let you out. A gowl of one will quote insurance and other anal crap. Also if the bus stops at AIT, get off there, it's also closer than station.

If you have to start at the station it might cut some time if you use the first couple of kms of the Old Rail Trail greenway as far as Garrycastle and then come up from behind the college and continue down the Dublin Road.
To access it you just keep left to go under the active rail line, follow the road as far as a set of old style railway gates (cleverly called "The White Gates") and then the greenway is on the right hand side. Follow that path until you get to a stone arch bridge with a newer bridge just after it, there's a path to the left leading up to a Spar shop, go up that path. Once in the Spar shop car park cross the Old arch bridge and turn left. Follow the road as it turns sharp right and comes down the side of AIT main campus on your right. At the roundabout about you want to turn left but cross the road so that you are on the right hand side as that's where the path is. Hotel is straight ahead.

Just to correct, you would want to go left at this roundabout, going right would bring you back into town.

Can anyone suggest a good pub that has sky sports, multiple screens, pool table and food in Athlone?

I used to go to the hop House on a Monday night for live comedy a few years back, but they stopped it.

Is there anywhere else that does live comedy in Athlone on a regular basis?

The Junction down beside Eddie Rockets

The Castle Inn (they don't do food themselves but you can get pint and pizza deals there which are ordered in from across the road)

I'm stumped after that. There aren't too many places left in town that do both. Any pub that's serious about food and has limited room isn't going to take 4 tables worth of space up with a pool table.

I wouldn't rate it as a good bar but the pub attached to the bowling alley seems to tick all the other boxes.

Anyone know what is going into the old Texas. Would be good to see that area developed as it is quiet from Eddie rockets to supermacs.
