OK, who keeps giving McG work?!

That aside, it looks fun in a mindless sort of way!

Probably mentioned before but the Good Place starts off slow and gets very very funny by the end of season 1, and is rocking it so far in season 2.

It's so enjoyable. I didn't think i'd like it, but at 20 mins an episode said it was worth a go.
Watched 8 episodes in 1 night, then went back and watched the rest and the start of season 2 aswell the next night. It's brilliant, Ted Danson & Kristen Bell especially are the stand outs but everyone in it are great. It's such a different idea, but works so well. I love it.

I watched all those episodes in 2 nights, and now having to wait for 1 a week will be horrible!

    That's probably why :pac:

TBH McG is a master at what he does. His movies tend to be brainless, but they're usually a tonne of fun. He's similar enough to Tony Scott in that way.

Thought that was a great film, was in bits at certain points and laughing out loud at others.

Really enjoying Star Trek Discovery at the moment.

Really enjoying Star Trek Discovery at the moment.

Yeah not a big trekkie by any means but like a smart sci-fi and so far, 3 eps in, its looking good. Looks like they've absorbed a bit from quality SF shows like BSG and the Expanse that have changed the game a bit since the last Trek TV incarnation. Its feels tighter and characters have a bit of edge to them. And Jason Isaacs always adds something in anything I've seen him in

I'm enjoying the long form drama format as opposed to the more episodic nature of previous Star Trek franchises and like yourself, I'm not a big trekkie either. I'm enjoying Sonequa Martin-Green in the title role - it took me ages to twig that she was also in the Walking Dead.

Got sucked into Schitts Creek for the last week or so. A multi-millionaire, and his family, lose everything and are forced to live in a two-roomed motel suite in a hick town that they own.

Can’t understand why I keep watching, the plot is totally rubbish, the characters are all odd-ball and the script is pretty predictable.

On the second series now.

Judging from forums the only people not enjoying it are the big trekkies.

Yeah, it seems to be getting brutal user reviews on the likes of Metacritic. Is it issues with retconning or technology used or identity politics or what is it?

I saw Jason Isaacs retweet someone complaining about them rewriting Klingon history or something.

There are some liberties taken with the technology used in a supposed 'prequel', and yup the Klingons have been messed with a little; I don't believe the ultra hardcore fans were ever going to be onboard though. A large part of Trek has passed into fundamentalist nostalgia.

If they're score bombing metacritic, it really does further show what a pointless endeavour that site is, if it's so easily manipulated by irate internet types.

Yeah I had a feeling that would be case as it does feel quite different to all the previous Star Trek iterations and the big trekkies would seem to be quite precious about the franchise. As I've no interest in the history or consistency of the ST Universe I'm kind of viewing it as a stand alone show. It will be interesting to see if the series can survive if the hard core fan base continue to turn their nose up at it.

There's two threads about Discovery on the Star Trek forum, one which is an on-going discussion on the issues with the cannon and the other is a new thread which is put up as each new episode is released.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it. A lot of the trekkies complain, but the truth is that TV shows don't have the luxury of a season or 3 (in the case of Enterprise) to get better anymore before they face cancellation. What we've got with Discovery is the strongest opening episodes of any of their franchises.

Ive watched most of the original series, all of the Next Generation, and lots of the rest - except Enterprise. However I know nothing much about the canon, except the basics.

There are far more people like me than the fundamentalist Trekkie types. And of course a whole new generation will arise, new trekkies for whom this is star trek.
I think Discovery will be ok.

I ve watched the first two episodes of discovery and so far I thought the plot and writing was poor and the acting leaves a lot to be desired.

There seems to be a lot of miscasting in it for me. But I ll give it another episode or two.

I was done, but people can discuss anything on netflix, right?

Of course, I was just pointing out that pages of discussion on that one programme might not be all that interesting for others who aren't into it.

I wasn't being smart at all so there's no need to be smart back.

Not trying to be smart myself, and i know theres always a danger any Trek discussion could turn in to a barney and hijack a thread, but I think we were discussing it as non-trekkie fans hence the discussion would have value for those on netflix who wouldn't go on to one of those forums but might wonder if its worth a gander. I know I've nothing much more to say about it, just giving my impressions
