If you have 20-odd minutes to spare, I recommend watching an episode of Toast of London. It's very silly and occasionally funny. :)

    The Kalief Browder Story

Just finished the 6 episodes. Absolutely essential viewing.

The US judicial, incarceration and prosecution systems are unbelievably fvcked up and broken.

    Sickening stuff.

Watching the Lady Gaga documentary. Christ almighty, what a self absorbed twod...

She is isn't she :pac: she doesn't hide it, or much at all though, which is why it's so interesting. Very revealing. Much shows her in a not so great light, so it's impressive that she allowed it all to be included as she is a producer.

I'm kind of regretting recommending anything to you to be honest given your ungrateful reply ........ anyway, watch or don't watch, no skin off
    my nose.

    Bit of an overreaction.
I explained why I was asking if you were actually recommending them based on having watched some of The Pinkertons and not finding it at all to my taste.
I thanked your reply, I don't really know how to be more grateful on an Internet message board.

Grabbers is leaving in a couple ofrom days, if anyone hasn't seen it yet. Great Irish horror/comedy film, more in the style of Tremors than something like Sean of the Dead.

And we suspect The Punisher will be in there somewhere as well but unsure when.

    This too shall pass.

I watched Tomorrowland this afternoon .

It was alright, I must say. The first two thirds or so are an enjoyable old fashioned kids having adventures kind of thing. The ending lets it down a bit. It was kind of underwhelming? The build up was so great that when the point of it all was revealed it felt like a let down. It also felt a bit preachy and obvious in it's message. Not that it's a terrible message to send but there was no subtlety at all. Nice to see Clooney is capable of not doing that weird bobble head smug thing he does in literally everything else I've seen him in. Britt Robertson continues to be charming and delightful in everything.

Loved it at the time, but don't think it's aged too well imo.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Grabbers is such an excellent movie. Father Ted meets Tremors. Any movie where the only solution is to drink alcohol is brilliant. The director did another movie recently called Robot Overlords. I'm not sure if it's on Netflix, but is worth tracking down.

That's Robot Overlords film has been on TV a lot lately. SyFy, I think.

It's worth a watch. Not as good as Grabbers, but it's great to see what a low budget Irish movie can achieve.

Neither Grabber or Robot Overlords is an Irish film, they got some funding and tax breaks for filming Grabbers here but it's not an Irish film.

So Grabbers was directed by and Irishman written by Irishman shot in Ireland staring Irish actors and co-funded by the Irish Film Board is not an Irish Film?

Writer and director are both Irish and/or Northern Irish.

Nope, it's not at best you could call Grabbers is an Irish-British film but calling it an Irish film is wrong.

To be pedantic the film was directed by a British man and mainly shot in Northern Ireland. When looking at films like this, it is funding more so than where it is shot that determines what country the film belongs to, do we classify Braveheart as an Irish film as many of the supporting cast are Irish, large parts of it were shot here the Irish Film Board gave them money? Or do we classify the various Roger Corman films shot in Galway in the 90s as Irish films given that they were largely Irish supporting actors, Irish crew, Irish locations, and support from the film board?

I would still classify Grabbers as an Irish film if it was funded by Martians.

It's one of those weird things, do we classify Get Rich or Die Tryin' as an Irish film as it has an Irish director and parts of it were shot in Ireland? Is Reign of Fire an Irish film, it had Irish supporting cast, Irish crew, was shot here and had support from the film board?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 24,016 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

The director himself calls it an Irish film.

I understand your point about what qualifies as an Irish film but I have no qualms about calling Grabbers one.

It's interesting sure but easily it's no to both because they aren't set in Ireland or relate to Irish culture in terms of their content Get rich or die trying is an American film, reign of fire is a British film.

That would be how I would interpret things. It's fair to say Grabbers isn't an Irish production of course but as a piece of film it's about as Irish as they come imo.

Obviously this is just my own interpretation of what makes a film of a place.

    Grabbers is pretty damned Irish.

Saying Grabbers isn't Irish is like saying Father Ted isn't Irish, as Ch4 funded Father Ted.

This one completely slipped by me. I didn't even know this was being made into a movie until now.
