While I have very little sympathy for op's problems I find it staggering that people wouldn't know there was/is campaign to get lad's mags of the shelves. An example.

And the same people wouldn't dare apply the same rules to homosexuals as they are a protected species like muslims.

He couldn't even tidy up your mess when he quoted it himself so I wouldn't worry.

They influence people's perception of what is acceptable and was isn't in society.
stefanovich, you are wasting your time trying to debate this stuff on boards.ie. If you don't agree with the left agenda apparently you are either a tinfoil hat nutter or a racist sexist hate monger. To be honest, this place is gone to ****
Good man, belittle other peoples opinions, thats how you get people on your side.

Opinions aren't supposed to be protected from criticism. What kind of snowflake, PC world do you want to live in where people can't even ridicule the ridiculous opinions of others.

Don't have any particular issue with it. Why would I?

Perhaps this is the right explanation.

My original post was an observation that all the pretty women on the top shelf have been replaced by men and I was wondering why....

Plenty of pretty women on the covers of women's magazines if you ventured over that way

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

The bang of repressed feelings and urges from the OP. It's ok OP, is this your coming out thread? Your gaydar must go into overdrive in these shops. Most of us would not have known about these gay magazines if you hadn't brought it to our attention.

Probably the most stupid 'serious' thread I have ever seen.

Some people will go to any lengths and make any argument to feel like oppressed victims.

They're specifically trying to turn you gay, OP. Embrace it.

Well I don't take much notice of magazines but from the few times I glimpse them when passing by Ive not noticed many ones about men but I do notice a lot of women in bikinis and 'omg she lost weight!' and katy price and kardashains and geordie shore and all that other tripe

To be fair I did make the point that boards has gone to shit so obviously you're going to get stupid threads. So why are you here?

I'm kinda too embarrassed to be seen looking at the women on magazine covers.......

If my eyes dwell on that sort of thing for too long people might think I am a perve.....

I would be too embaraased to go through the selection to work out how many gay mags there were.......

I do my research on the internet.............

Passive aggressive leftists, you are all the same.

Nothing passive on display here. Your op is ridiculous.

I couldn't find the Farmer's weekly, I think it was hidden behind big selling magazines like OUT! Attitude! and Diva, it was awful.

Cry me a river. Its not the fault of women or gays that those soft porn titles died a death. They were crap. I doubt you bought them for the journalism so just do what the rest of us do and get your porn online.

You actually made the point that it had gone to sh1t because of a left agenda and then bemoaned somebody else belittling opinions they don't agree with

It's also likely down to gay guys wanting to read things that are useful for connecting with what's going on in the gay community. That means you might have a loyal market for a particular magazine.

I guess it's a bit like the way Women's magazines were originally very much about connecting women on particular issues that women wanted to know about and talk about in an era when the mainstream media was very much ignoring them.

Since that changed you'll notice women's magazines have largely morphed into being bland fashion magazines that rather than anything very political. Whereas 60, 70 and 80s women's magazines were very much about establishing women's rights and in the case of cosmopolitan etc, bringing female sexuality out of the Victorian closet that it had been locked up in.

Gay magazines will likely fade similarly as community connections are moving online but also because the gay community in Ireland and similarly progressive countries is beginning to become just part of the broader community without the same need to have been niche and underground. The need for specialist media fades even the mainstream starts to just include things that are relevant to gay people, noticing and recognising there's a significant market.

Straight men are being served by the general media and always have been because they've been there dominating force in pretty much everything.

Also tbh, Ireland hasn't really got much of a history of buying men's magazines and anything soft porn orientated like Playboy was banned until recent decades under Ireland's old policy that it was all "filth" and nobody here ever had sex unless they were dutifully making babies and even then they probably claimed they didn't even enjoy it.

So I think by the time Playboy and similar became available here the internet was already around and also the written content of some of those magazines was considered a bit old fashioned. So we kind of missed the Playboy and similar era.

There's just not enough straight porn on the internet anymore for me and now that there are no "manly man" magazines I suppose I'll have to go for a bit of bumming.

When I was a young lad you have penthouse and playboy and perfect 10. Now they have been replaced with gay magazines.

They are apparently going back to boobies this month but good like finding someone who ****ing stocks it.

It's not rocket science, shops stock what sells. The gay mags sell, the 'boobies' don't.

Mod: Okay, okay, while there's a few decent posts that make interesting points to discuss, this is mostly a back-and-forth snipefest and it's fairly mean-spirited (yeah, I snarked as well). I'm locking this before it gets any more out of hand, it's not really an AH type of thread anyway.
