I thought he got a new Switch and was getting no sleep because he was up all night playing it :pac:

Nah, there's a new baby, so we can't take her out so I have to "selflessly" stay in and play games instead of "enjoying" the burning light beautiful sunshine. :)

    I was that soldier.
I worked day on/day off for twenty years, so every other day it was myself and Cidonalad as a baby.
Never finished as many games before or since!

Played the new demo for Octopath Traveller over the weekend and was blown away by it. Immediately went looking for a physical copy of it and there was Smyths with pre-orders open, cheaper than the eShop and with a further 5euro discount. Bingo.

I'm hoping Argos price it like they did with Xenoblade Chronicles :pac:

I cracked and got Stardew Valley, put a couple of hundred hours into it on the PC, I promised myself I wouldn't but my Switch would have been gathering dust otherwise, picked up a Night In The Woods as well, always thought I had it from a humble Bundle but turns out I did not have it.

    Playing Fortnite and absolutely addicted!
It runs at 30fps on Switch and can suffer some framerate drops when the action gets heated. Does anyone think that they'll upgrade it to 60fps? Would the Switch be able to handle it? I know both PS4 and XB1 started at 30fps before being upgraded to 60fps.

If not I might purchase a cheap Xbox One 2nd hand to play it...

Nope, don't think switch can handle 60fps Fortnite to be fair, but I'm open to correction...

I had 2 issues with my launch switch, the crack appearing at the back up top where the screws go in and the dodgy left joycon, fair enough they backed my data up but I was one month without the console....

I "may" be a little slow on the uptake but I only figured out last night through a wrong button press that you can get gold points for physical purchases too, retrospectively. Seems to be a lower rate than for e-shop purchases but something is absolutely better than nothing...

Yup, I believe it's about 1/6th of the value of a digital purchase, which really isn't much to write home about either.

Better than nothing though, especially when you get a second hand cart that hasn't claimed it :pac:

    Something about sandwiches

Is today the date that the built in golf (flog) game gets activated?

I've a 2nd Switch on Firmware 3.0 sitting in the wardrobe that I might crack open for the laugh.

Does the Adjustable Charging Stand for Nintendo Switch have a release date in Ireland?

Follow up to a reply I posted a week ago about my broken Switch. It had cracked along the rear casing in the area where the battery is. I purchased from Smyths, they directed me to Nintendo.
Shipped the console on a Wednesday morning (label paid by Nintendo), and I had a replacement in my hands on the Friday of the following week. The letter with the new console said the issue was an “Operating System Error” and I have a fresh 12 month warranty with the manufacturer.

I’m pretty happy with the service from Nintendo. They look after their customers.

Did you lose your save data?

Got my switch yesterday and somehow got a small dot scratch on the left side of the screen. Not noticeable when playing but so annoying! I had ordered screen protectors online but gonna go looking for one today if I can get it.
Great games but the screen is a massive let down in terms of quality.

Not sure I agree. My Switch has gotten heavy use in the last 15 months (docked and portable) and it's still in perfect condition. Do you know what caused the scratch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭rejkin

Nope, only docked it and left it to charge. Didn't knock it over or anything. When I pulled it out it had the mark. Only thing I can think is I maybe leaned on it when pulling the controllers off while it was docked.
    Just bad luck

actually docking the switch in the holder can scratch the screen. Go easy with it. Mine is from launch day, never put a protector on and no noticeable scratches anywhere.

Yeah,I think it's just annoying me because I'm so picky about keeping screens clean and make sure to get a cover on them and messed up on this one.

I got a plastic cover in the shops and will use that until the glass one arrives.

I did indeed. Along with the screen protector I had installed. That’s 80 odd hours in Zelda gone, an established Skyrim profile, all my cups and karts in Mario Kart, my farm in Stardew Valley, the 400 odd moons I’d gathered, and my nearly complete golf story save.

    Ah well.

That is shocking. My condolences. They need to sort out the cloud saves ASAP.
Just thinking. If you install a micro sd do the saves go their instead? Or can you make them go their?

Absolutely. Bit of a joke at this stage. At least let us take back-ups to the SD card.

    Nope, saves are always internal.

Had a bit a scare this morning, went to close Hollow Knight and in my sleepy state hit delete......

Had an inital panic that my 20+ hour save was gone :0

My poor son, Cidonalad, is in the Gaeltacht right now.
Went to see him for his two hour visit yesterday... worse than prison!
But at least he got a good hour of Octopath in!

All he has to do is shout a sentence out in English down the corridor (while a teacher turns the corner) and he'll be sent home.

That actually happened to me a million years ago. :o:pac:

He's talking about Nintendo and Dark Souls there and I wondered what the translation of names like Zelda into gaelic.
He said they can use proper names if they like, but everything else has to be in Irish.
Discovered too a loophole where he can talk in french and the staff can't do anything as it's only the auld enemy's tongue that's banned.
