Looking to pick up a physical copy of Doom for the Switch. No joy in city centre shops in Dublin, gamecard only on Amazon. Any recommendations for other online sellers?

Bought it last month and I found Amazon to be the best deal to get it new.

(and on a side note I'm getting close to finishing it so I should have a mint copy on sale in 2 weeks max :-))

Of course, the eShop is a digital platform. But, if you wanted Physical so you could have resale value, take the ZA eShop price off the retail price and ask your self if you reckon you'll get that much when you sell it on.

If you're a box collector... Well there's no saving you. :)

The game card for Doom is 45 euros on Amazon and it should sell for 35 once done with it (30 absolute minimum as this is what CEX will give for it in cash).

So if the plan is to just go through the game and then stop playing it then that's the most economical option. Of course if people prefer digital downloads or want to keep it long term for multiplayer, the sale on the eShop still is a good deal.

Is this console suitable for a 6 year old, he's looking to play hello neighbour.

Is there a yearly subscription to the Nintendo network like what Sony have with the ps4.

I'm assuming the switch is more suitable for kids and familys compared to the ps4 and Xbox one and he won't be asking me every minute how to do this and that.

The console would be sound, you can basically only play games on it atm

There is, it's free until September I believe, and €30 per year after that.

As above, you can't do much outside playing games and it's all very straightforward so he should be fine with it.

Hello Neighbour is a horror game though, I'd have a look on YouTube before buying it for a kid. I dont think it's gore or jumps or anything like that, but more athmospheric but I'd still double check

Thinking of getting ARMS as it's on sale for €40 on the Irish eShop.

Isn't there a global test punch happening now? It's very good fun

Along with the test punch digital solitude mentioned, I think it might be €30 on the South African store if you're willing to change regions for a bit. I'll check the price again but it think it's right. I think it was worth full price but it's certainly worth 30/40 euro sale price.

Try the test punch and see if you enjoy it first while it's free just to be sure.

Yeah, makes sense but didn't he say he couldn't get it off Amazon as a cart, just digital?
Btw, anyone know what the multiplayer is like? Specifically does it have local mp options where you might kick yourself if you didn't have the cart with you and a session starts?

    It's available only from 31 Mar 05:00 to 03 Apr 04:59.

Unless this trick that lets you play the warm-up segments of the game is possible.

Both Owlboy and Wonderboy are on sale right now and I fancy some 2d platforming action. Any thoughts on either? Owlboy looks to have some nice puzzle-type parts to it, which I like; not sure if Wonderboy has the same?

I bought Wonderboy some months ago in another sale. It's been lovingly remastered, but the gameplay didn't appeal to me - it definitely shows it's age. It's a discovery platform type game it may appeal if you enjoy similar types of games. Owlboy looks nice I haven't played it but may do at some stage

Anyone know any shop in Dublin that has one of these set up to try out? Smyths maybe?

Thinking of getting one but would love to have a mess around on Zelda or Mario first.

The gameplay in Wonderboy is exactly the same, which is why it feels "off", despite the visuals being bang up to date.
I watched a guy who played through the original play it though and it looked brilliant, sadly I still suck at it

Worth it for the box art alone. Little bit of Master System sneaking in at the bottom.

I just bought a switch 2 or 3 weeks ago and can honestly say you will not be disappointed with getting Mario without even trying it first.

I did think the bundled controllers were a bit flimsy at first but after using them for quite some time that is not the case.

Started playing Bayonetta. Played about an hour. Good game but quite confusing so far.

Don't worry, it gets much more confusing later on, you're in for a treat!

    Also, dodge, a lot...

Anyone bought Doom from South Africa?

Going to buy it but read that certain regions content can vary on this game

Would the SA version be the same as the Irish retail version.?

    Thanks!

Got Steamworld Dig 2 in the sale (and used my gold points too). The interview with the game's creator on NVC this week pushed me over the edge on the decision to buy.

Very enjoyable game so far and I'm liking the art style and music.

It was one of my games of the year last year. Perfectly paced and always engaging, with Nintendo levels of polish along with great art and music like you mentioned. It was an excellent game.

Got Super Bomberman and Doom in the sale

Had a quick run through of them last night in handheld mode

I had never played any of the Bomberman games before but my wife would have played it a lot on the Snes as a kid and claims she will kick my ass at the weekend so I was getting some practice in
Seems like it will lead to lots of swearing and throwing things so should be fun

Doom looked so good in handheld, will try it on the tv over the weekend, I was very surprised by the graphics on it
I can see why some people might find the joycons a bit fiddly on it, I struggled a bit but might get used to it, might also try playing it with a 8bitdo at the weekend and see how it goes
However the movement on screen was nice and smooth

So far though happy with both purchases at the sale price

I finished Doom last weekend (exclusively played in handheld more) and rather enjoyed it indeed. If you haven't already done so, I would recommend giving the motion controls option at try. Might be a matter of personal preference but for accurate aiming I found it much better that the joy cons (and I don't think I would have enjoyed the game without that option).

Have you spent much time on Bomberman? I also got it from the eShop sale but while I like it for the nostalgic aspect I find that even for the sale price it is a bit poor in contents and a bit of a lazy port. I'll probably still enjoy it overtime but I definitely don't think it is worth the regular price.

Thanks for the tip, I will certainly give that a go

I was going to buy bomberman when it first came out because I knew herself loved it when young but she insisted it wouldn't have been worth the price so decided to wait for a sale

Only played a few levels last night but it will probably get most use in battle mode in our house so hopefully that is fun, will report back after the weekend

Has anyone had issues with the power supply

Mine seems to have stopped working, it has never been moved from the day I first got it and plugged it into the dock so has never been abused

    Any advice for replacing it?

Currently charging the switch off a good quality phone charger but it doesn't have enough power for the dock to display to the TV
