perhaps met.ie have overcooked the cool temps and rainfull from Wednesday. BBC's outlooks is also unsettled but nowhere as cool or wet as the met.ie forecast.

The GFS and the ECM both showing a cold pool of upper air heading out of greenland and plonking right over us the latter half of the week. The GFS highlights it well.

Hard to know how long the LP will hang around over the weekend, models differ quite a bit . The main models showing HP build in the Atlantic towards the weekend. At the moment they show Ireland at the outer reaches of the HP with LP to our E in the early days of next week. Doesn't look as unsettled next week, could be under the influence of N'ly winds for a few days .Possible improvement in Temps and settling down towards the end of next week. Just my opinion, want to keep an eye on the forecasts as the week goes on.

It's for analysis in the convection thread but Tuesday night into Wenesday could be bullseye or a near miss again in the south east and east for some Fireworks from French Welsh and Cornish imports
Anywhere from the south coast deep into Munster south Leinster really and Wexford?

Today was a really lovely day in Tralee and this evening is clear and bright. I actually got a walk in the sunshine rather than in rain. :)

No idea what temp it was, my fellow Kerry poster,Meteorite 58 might be kind enough to supply that information. :)

Is this one of the better summers in recent years? Seems very dry and sunny to me in general.

    I am in Galway.

depends on what part of the country.

In the North-west it's been a brutal summer so far,
West and midlands it's been average.
South and East it's been warm, mostly dry with some cool days.
Most of the country has seen very dull conditions, particularly the west and north.
Still another 7 weeks of summer to go, alot can change between now and 1st September.

Aaaagh  so annoying    A few days ago met eireann said next week would be very good especially midweeek .  On that basis I booked Wednesday off work .

Now latest forecast says next Wednesday raining and intermittent cloud , cooler etc etc. .
Is it really that hard to predict one week ahead ?  This keeps happening this summer.  Dammit .

(I'm bang on the East  coast - Mornington)

The models just repeatedly over and over and over fail to predict the proper development of low pressure systems forming at the back end of any HP ridges that come our way from the west. These lows then go on to destroy any hopes of HP staying near our shores.

It's a consistent type of modelling failure for this particular part of the world (same goes for winter too - we are all familiar with the phrase 'toppling high' which describes a transient ridge toppling very quickly SE'wards over us into Europe. The eternal bane).

It's unlikely to be fixed any time soon, since in all likelihood the GFS is considerably more accurate for the rest of Europe - primarily due to the fact the jet stream just doesn't influence the weather so much there. It's an unfortunate reality of us being so close to the jet stream almost permanently.

Depends where about in Ireland you are.

But here in wexford ground conditions have been very dry for most of the year.
Bar a very short wet spell in the spring and then a little bit in early june.
Put it this way everyone around here are tanned or some looked a bit like a lobster and all from our own homegrown sunshine.

One the better ones from the last 10 years in Cork (2006, 2013, 2014 definitely had more hot days), once it's dry, 19-20 degrees and the sun makes a regular appearance you can't ask for much more in this country :)

I completely agree with this, Wexford does definitely have the best weather in the country in terms of sunshine.
Although I was down there during the past week and it bucketed down Tuesday morning for a good few hours!

There seems to be a difference across the country alright. It also looks like the weather forecasts (MT included) have been unduly pessimistic as far as the east is concerned.

I was looking at the back lawn and realised that it's starting to look rather parched, obviously it'll get a bit of a feed this week but it was almost shocking as everyone keeps telling here about how rubbish this summer has been! :p

It has been relatively good in the east and probably feels better than normal because we have had a lucky run of good weekend weather.

I barely got any rain from that. It hardly wetted the yard.(North wexford at the Blackstairs).
You must have been in a different part of wexford.
    Probably rosslare or south wexford.

The ECM 12Z is gone off on it's own showing the area of LP forecast for the end of the week up in Iceland and and has heights building at the end of the week introducing warmer air ! An outlier?

The GFS , UKMO and the GEM still keeping it close to us although the GFS has it a bit more N of us on the 18Z.

I disagree about it being brutal in the north west. Certainly not the worst summer by far when you look back at some of the summers over the last 10 years. My land, which is marginal, hasn't been drier than it is now in years. Yes, we've had cloudy, dull and wet days but nice sunny days too. Overall I rate it as better than normal. Nowhere as good as the SE but that's hardly surprising.

Beautiful day here in Dublin 16. 21.3c atm.

What am absolutely stunning day, truly fabulous. Weather station giving a wind average of 0.5kts, currently 18.2c and extremely sunny, not a cloud to be seen.

The heat tomorrow could help set off a few Thunderstorms!

The anemometer on my Davis isn't moving whatsoever, first time I've seen that since I got this one in December, it moves at the slightest puff of air.

Very rare to get such a spectacular windless day, especially in this part of the country. I don't know the temperature, don't particularly want to go in to check!

    Edit: 22.5c

Just broke 25C in Castlebar, it is beautiful outside with not a cloud in sight and the slightest westerly blowing.

23C, blue skies, couldn't be more perfect.

Grass is starting to fade in colour all around the area with lack of heavy rain.
