Needs to be done every time, but it's no hassle.

As far as I know Humax are aware there is an issue with the youtube app causing the box to crash so perhaps a fix is on the way.

So I’m buying of these boxes you can record one show while watching another but you needs two cable to do this?

I’m using a used sky box and I only have 1 cable going into it along with a HDMI

How do I get the second? Or do I just need a splitter will that work?

Your Sky box would have needed a 2nd cable to record, just like the humax. This will have to be brought from the dish to the box. You can't split a satellite cable.

You'll need two satellite wires even for a sky box! A splitter won't do it - the second wire has to be run directly from the dish which must have at least a dual LNB +that's the bit at the end of the arm. Most can actually take 4 wires = quad LNB

Are you using Saorview, then you could run a feed from your dish, if you have a multi LNB, into your aerial lead using a splitter/combiner, the signal can be split , using a second splitter, at the other end. One lead going to the TV and the other giving you the second feed to your sat recorder.

Geolocking easy to get around but not allowed to discuss it here - Google is your friend! Iplayer is fine on it but a little slow and subtitles are always out of sync.

After Coming from Sky the family never really got on with the Humax box and also a bit of a pain having to use the TV to watch and record saorview. So I picked up one of these a few days ago. It can handle satellite and saorview channels. Quite tricky to setup (there's a very helpful thread about it on here) so wouldn't recommend it unless you or a friend has some tech know how and lots of patience. Nice to be able to order the channels exactly how you want and also handles iptv. No iplayer so using nowtv box or xbox one instead - iplayer works better on both compared to the Humax.

There are lots of "skins" available for it so menus can be made to look like sky if you want - see photo from mine below. So far so good - if it proves to be stable and wife friendly I'll be selling the Humax..

Humax 1100s and the new one is the Triviar Alpha Plus (2 Satellite tuners and one terrestrial one) as above.

I've been following that thread. There does seem to be a lot to to set up and I see guys are always tinkering with the box. Some are doing transponder updates themselves. The lack of iplayer, netflix and rte player is an issue for me though. I can access all 3 off a single remote, plus I have 4 tuners to work off (running saorview connect alongside humax 110s).

Having access to the iplayer is a huge asset in our house. It is brilliant for cbeebies stuff where each short episode will play after the previous one. I use it more than netflix. Some quality programming on it and the picture quality is excellent.

The tiviar seems a nice solution though. Great for multi room. Ideal for anyone with a bnb or other setup like that.

In fairness contributers to those sort of threads like to tinker - I'd be the same but don't have the time anymore so my intention is to leave well alone when I have everything setup - nearly there! Will also be making a back up. I get Netflix and rte player from my smart TV and don't really need a second terrestrial tuner.
