Humax 1100s set up, anything to be aware of?

I don't believe there's any decent FTA channel missing.

The only issue I have is with the remote after 14 months. The exit button is not working unless pressed very hard. Seems to be a common complaint with Humax remotes. There are replacement ones on eBay for 15 Euro. Else could prize the unit apart and try and clean the contact. Genuine remote is about 35 Euro....

However the box itself has been trouble free with probs only two failed recordings in over a year. Navigation is slightly diff from Sky but you get used to it. Maybe a couple of extra keys presses at times but no big issue with that really.

Edit: Just got brave and prised the remote open, managing to not break any clips...Cleaned the contacts with an alcohol wipe and it's fixed!!

My last humax freesat+ box gave up after 7 years, got 1100s and nice machine. I do prefer rubber buttons on old remote so use that still

    Hi,
If I change my postcode on the Humax 1100S will I loose my current recordings?
I can't seem to find any info about this in the manual.
    Thanks.

    You shouldn't.

Actually pleased to hear that Discovery channels are no longer available on Sky as they were main non fta ones I used to watch so now have zero regrets about canceling my sub. Humax box should be delivered from Amazon tomorrow. The first one I ordered never reached me as apparently it got damaged in transit.

Another advantage of freesat is the wider selection of HD channels you might actually want to watch such as CH4 HD, BBC 4 HD etc

You will probably find that your recording schedules will be reset - make a note of them (take a pic of the screen!) before you change it, just in case.

No but you will lose your planned recordings so my advice is to take a photo and use it to set back up your planned recordings

    Something to add.

The 1100s can see your dlna media player on the same network. It can't play all the media files due to codec issues but it can play mp3 and some videos.

Also if you fire up YouTube on a device, you can cast to the 1100s. It's listed as FS-HMX-xxxxxxxx

    Hi,
Got the Humax hdr-1100s last week, just added favourites.
    1
Is there any way to get to favs without having to-
    1.press TV guide
    2.press list
    3 . scroll to favorites

Its be great to have favs with 1 click.

2.Can I get to list without having to press TV guide first? Pressing list when watching a channel does nothing.

    3.Any of the non-regular channels you'd recommend?

    4. Row of coloured buttons-red, green, yellow, blue. Do they ever do anything?
    Thanks
    Pa

I've found the 1100s to be fairly good. I came from Sky HD and the menu system on the Sky box as the time (1.5 yrs ago) was much nicer to navigate. But got used to the Humax Freesat interface now and it's easier to use than their older Freeview boxes interface. I bought the 1TB one but have found that it's mostly only 25% full so could have got the 500GB... It's slow to boot up (even with power saver off) which is kinda annoying if you just wanna watch something... I also found pressing record on a show that already has started doesn't seem to prompt to record the entire series that a Sky box does. It's a Freesat implementation of series link that's the issue. Other than that , it's been very reliable. Probably only two failed recordings in 1 year.

The Freesat app on the phone is very handy - not IP geo locked. Can remotely set shows to record and view what is recorded and scheduled to record on your box away from home. Used that a good few times.

I also have all the on demand services working in Ireland... ;-)
Beware of the freeway app, has directly caused lots of boxes to lose all recordings, and box itself becomes useless (mostly older boxes)

You mean the Freesat app I guess? Never had an issue and been using it for 1.5 yrs.

I'm after buying one of these.
Is it possible to move channels?
I have deleted some of the ones I don't need but would like to order the channels to suit me.

    Thanks

Not in the Freesat mode, as far as I know, you can set up a favourites list. Are you in the fta mode if you have deleted channels.

I love the box. As mentioned can set fav list. Extremely helpful. Ideally you could have a dedicated button to bring you to favs. Takes 4 clicks to get there, first world problem I know...

Password (for watching shows taped after certain time) has never worked for me. I didn't set any, tried 0000,1234 etc. I fear my only option is to reset the box but I'll lose all recordings then. any ideas?

Can you watch YouTube through it? I thought you could but never got it working, would be cool.

Lastly can you watch shows from past week in Ireland or is that feature only working on UK?

    Cheers,
    Pa

Just see that now, never checked before.

Ya I have deleted a good few crap channels. I still have some channels near the top (like bbc alba) that I'd rather not.

I wanted to have bbcni and bbcwales further up but they are way down. However, I found that by going left on the first guide menu it brings me to the lowest down channels and I found them quickly then a couple of pages back.

    How do you series link?
Some people are saying you can use freesat app to remote record.

Yes, we can watch YouTube, do you have the app in your on demand section.
Iplayer wont work here but the itv hub is on 903, the rollback service was blocked here during the summer with a software update.

In the schedule when you select a programme it will ask if you want series link, in sd or hd.

    Hi,

So if you have an attached powered external HD it will only play some videos - what format videos can it play please?

    Thanks

Freesat app is working fine without a vpn.
Just tried a remote record there and it worked.

None of the players are working though. Not even All4 even though it works fine on Chromecast.

Youtube and Netflix are there though.
I have to say I would prefer to use my phone and cast the apps as it is slow to type in text using the keypad.

If anyone can help with this I'll be extremely grateful.

I can get to YouTube & Netflix in the Ondemand section (I think). But they're pass code protected and even though I never set a pass code (pin) and tried default ones I can't get into them.

But one evening my son had accessed the Netflix page where it was asking for email and password. Got it working but when exited couldn't get back to that page again. So it seems you can access Netflix through another menu route...anyone able to help please?
    Thanks,
    Pa

Re casting youtube to the humax - is anyone else finding that the box is rebooting when you try to cast.

Looking online it seems to be a common issue.

If it worked it would mean I could use my chromecast elsewhere.

    Thanks

Thinking of buying one of these and have just bought a reasonably high end LG smart TV

Will I be able to watch Saorview on this or will I have to switch between the TV and the humax box? Really annoying to have this problem

Also, I've wired for two CAT5s so I can record, TV only has one tuner so can't record and watch on that. But I'm now worried I'll need one cat 5 for Saorview, one for the satellite and then it'll be awkward to record as a result or have I that arseways?

Are you talking about the Humax box, no you don't get Saorview. To switch between TV and Sat on a Sony TV is a couple of buttons, the Humax remote can be programmed to work most tv's.
