Re casting youtube to the humax - is anyone else finding that the box is rebooting when you try to cast.

Looking online it seems to be a common issue.

If it worked it would mean I could use my chromecast elsewhere.

    Thanks

Why cast when you have Youtube in the OnDemand section in the menu?

Firstly it is slow to use the keypad to type.

But mostly I would like to cast other stuff like eir sports and eurosport so I don't then need to use the chromecast or change the hdmi input.

Thinking of buying one of these and have just bought a reasonably high end LG smart TV

Will I be able to watch Saorview on this or will I have to switch between the TV and the humax box? Really annoying to have this problem

Also, I've wired for two CAT5s so I can record, TV only has one tuner so can't record and watch on that. But I'm now worried I'll need one cat 5 for Saorview, one for the satellite and then it'll be awkward to record as a result or have I that arseways?

Can you explain what you are doing with the cat 5s, I really don't understand. Thanks.

    I contacted humax about this.
You actually can't cast to the box unless the app is on the box. Hence the ability to cast youtube but not bt sports.

Sorry - I think and hope I'm ok, basically I've 2 cat 5s from attic down to the tv points. I will have saorview aerial and satellite on the roof. I got 2 cat5s for dual tuner devices like the humax - so I can watch and record.

Now I'm worried that one of those CAT5s is going to be taken up by saorview so I won't be able to? Or will I?

From speaking to provider today I will have humax which can record the UK stuff and then hard drive plugged into the TV which can record the Saorview stuff.

Will be interesting to see if I can watch and record Saorview and same with UK stuff or will I still be stuck.

Ridiculous in this day and age that its that convoluted.

There was an offer of a Ferguson box with all the channels on it but you would have to program the record like a VCR which I found laughable to be honest.

Don't think you can do that - see link below for more.
    https://www.askaboutmoney.com/threads/linking-satellite-cable-to-cat5-cable.122008/

There is meant to be a new freesat box (similar to sky q) coming out Autumn 2018 that will allow sat cable feeds go to main freesat box in sitting room and then you can stream to other boxes in other rooms. You will still need the sat feed to go direct to the sitting room box (going by that thread above). The saorview signal may come down the cat 5 but someone in the know might respond here.

Also google boards.ie threads on this.

Thanks for that but unless I'm missing something afaik you cant bring a sat feed from your dish to your STB using a Cat 5.

It is convoluted because these STBs are designed with the UK market in mind, not the Irish one.

Sorry - maybe I have the wrong terms - basically 2 TV cables?

    Edit: Coax I think?

Do Saorview and Satellite travel on differnent type of wires?

(I really shouldn't be asking these questions after doing the wiring I'm hoping there hasn't been a spectacular miscommunication between me and electrician)

If you have satellite grade coaxial cable both the saorview and sat signals can go down the one cable. You need a combiner at one end (to join 2 cables into 1) and then a splitter at the tv to divide them into sat and saorview again.

Saorview is in a lower radio frequency range while satellite is in a higher range.

I am only learning as I post those links.
I do have the saorview/sat going down the 1 cable in my place. I then have the other cable (of 2 coming into house) going to a 2nd room where it is again split so the tv has saorview/sat.

The downside of this is that I can't view one sat while recording a 2nd sat.

You can get a different setup - a quad lnb that will allow 4 cable feeds from the sat dish so you could have view one/record another in both rooms.

You are fine. I am only learning about those as I post the links.

I do have the saorview/sat going down the 1 cable so that is definitely possible.

Look up quad lnbs and wideband lnbs for satellite dishes. That will give you a better idea of your needs especially if you want saorview/sat in every room.

Hello, I know this is cheeky but I’m struggling trying to even get the app for the humax 1100S, I’m based in West Ireland and have registered a UK postcode, but firstly can’t find the app in Irish App Store

The Freesat app on the phone is very handy - not IP geo locked. Can remotely set shows to record and view what is recorded and scheduled to record on your box away from home. Used that a good few times.

I also have all the on demand services working in Ireland... ;-)

I’m in the West of Ireland (Galway) and I can’t find the app .. the App Store is really testing me, would you be able to guide me please?

Google, freesat.co.uk, it says "get the app" on the top right of the home page, you can download it from there

As decor says it is the 'freesat' app you need to download from play store not humax.

I’m in Galway, the App Store is Irish . You can not download Uk apps from the Irish store, it will swap you to UK store but then you can not download the app because the linked bank account is based in Ireland - this is why I was having problems- both Freesat and Humax have now told me that despite purchasing through amazon and having it sent to Ireland - it’s not licensed in Ireland so I can’t use it ..

    Sadly that doesn’t work

Like I said earlier just go to Freesat. Co.uk, not the app Store. I have the app on my phone, it works fine.

Where in Ireland are you out of curiosity?

I go to freesat.co.uk I click on the link in top right corner where it says get app and it takes me to App Store

The app was updated on the 11th of January in the playstore. I haven't updated it.
Maybe it has been geoblocked since then.

This was happening to me recently. If I casted from my phone, it rebooted. But if I go through the humax YouTube app to connect to the phone (can't remember the name of the menu option), it connected no problem.

Thank you, I was trying to use iPhone , I had tried to go via play store but no luck - eventually I resorted to get my husband ‘going abroad’ phone that has a low cost SIM that is from UK and it’s now set up through that

Thank for your help people, thanks Cushie you’re right I was trying to use iOS- I’m now using an old UK SIM

Yeah, the only difference is I paired the box and the phone through the box's YouTube app.

Needs to be done every time, but it's no hassle.
