To be honest, the whole #complaining about no # is getting a bit tiresome.
    Does it really matter?
We know the role of bloggers - sell something, gain support, make money.
They're not showing us these things because they're just good people. Or maybe they are! I don't know.

Honestly there are people who are quibbing about things just for the sake of it at times. And it certainly brings out not-so-nice traits in people.

Let Revenue worry about it! :D

The only blog and snapchatter I enjoy watching is RM. I've had very little time this week to watch any others on Snapchat this week (you could easily lose an hour watching the stories!) but I don't feel I'm missing out. I'm not a 'girly girl' and not easily influenced to buy particular products, so I'm not really 'influenced' by these influencers anyway!

Meanwhile, in other news, I've left my phone at work! #likeIvelostalimb

Edit: Oh and I would like to add, if particular people are pals, I don't see the harm in showing a product. We'd all do the same for our friends. Where do we draw the line? Ads only have to be declared as such if money has changed hands (and vouchers/treatements/non monetary benefits????????) or is this where the confusion lies????

ANYWAY, if I want to show a product that my friend has created and developed, of course I'd try to 'advertise' it to my followers, but why would or should it be declared as an ad? It's more so a promotion :P

    I can't believe I'm using #

I gave a work colleague such a slagging for using them! :D

I see Rosie is going to be the Renault brand ambassador for the next year. No need for #ad because no cash involved, just the use of the car

isnt it kinda the same as when we (well i know i did and a few others) did promotional work in college and were given a diagio branded jeep or (for one very very very short week) an Always branded jeep to drive around...
insurance was paid for and the car was ours for however long as long as we did a certain amount of mileage in certain places during certain times.

red bull at 5/6 pm in the evening
yacult in the morning etc etc?

i didnt get paid i just got the jeep to spin around in and go to college etc.
when i did other promotions like handing out samples in tesco i was paid to stand there, and give people the samples.

Surely that requires a sponsored # or are #spon and #ad the same thing?

Surely it's payment in kind? She gets a car, shes promoting Renault where ever she drives. I think it should be hash tagged.

Completely disagree with this. It's so important to keep the conversation open and have an outlet to share who's using ad and who isn't. It actually seems to be doing good work. A lot of bloggers are aware of this thread and newspapers are paying attention to the issue lately. One recent article looked like the info came right out of this thread. I think it's important to keep this conversation going for sure.

The only way for the conversation to stay open though is for posters to stay on point and try not to get these threads closed down.

    It's SO frustrating!!!!

Is she where does it say that ..
Wonder if that means the make up fairy is no longer their brand ambassador.

Rosie and grace are promoting Giorgio Armani this morning and Rosie was plugging a skincare company.

I don't follow her and probably haven't for the past year or so, but I don't understand why she would need/require/get use out of a sponsored car. Not to sound disrespectful but where would she really be going to advertise both herself and Renault? I don't know the ins and out of the blogging scene so I stand to be corrected but I would imagine most of her time would be spent at home looking after her child, working in her office on her blog and social media and then out to shop and attend events. I don't really see how it would be worthwhile from Renault's POV to sponsor her with a car only for the fact she can promote products through social media.

(Yeah I probably a little jealous too, I had to pay for my own Renault! :P )

Thanks . I wonder if they will keep the two brand ambassadors or just the one.

I hate the way the word brand ambassador is used to get around #ad and #spon.

Rosie is at home with her child most days. In her office which also happens to be at home. Or she goes to the shops.
How will this benefit the company.

I hope they don't print her name on it like they did with the make up fairy it's very cringy lol.

    proving the point there love.

the ad or sponsor thing is interesting, maybe the rules need to be updated maybe they need to be more specific, are companies responsible or bloggers?
i do know that if i try a product or service and its really good that i will recommend it to my friends and colleagues, at what point does it become promotion?
if a non celeb, but someone who is well known in the community, ie there was a viral photo went out last year about a local priest who saw his bill where the waiter had noted it was the local priest so to ''make it good'' or something along those lines extra chips or something... this is a man of influence in his local area, well know, comes in contact with a lot of locals, is this advertising? the company is deliberately giving him better service because of his position.
wheres the line? JK getting a free hoover when his breaks because he loves it and they replace it...
getting free into a club on your birthday?
getting a car to spin around in?
its tricky and i can see it will only grow and grow with the confusion.

I believe it's down to the companies/brands themselves to ensure that the bloggers follow the guidelines. If you make a complaint to ASAI it's about the company (i think).

It's such a tricky situation. I think everything should be disclosed so if you're paid: #ad if you're given it for free: #freebie but getting people to even just do #ad is hard enough.

The technicality of it is it's only considered an ad of money has exchanged hands between the parties. Personally, I don't think being given something for free just because and then choosing to show it on social media is an ad.
But if someone is given something for free under stipulation that it be shown across social media, well to me that is an ad. But they're not required to #ad because it's not what the ASAI consider to be advertising as no money has been exchanged.

I think if someone is given something for free with the agreement between both parties that a positive review is given that is considered an ad by ASAI. I could be wrong will go check and post it! That was my understanding of what they said anyhow! But if it's just for free with no news to say anything then it's fine!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭idunno78

'If an advertiser provides free products to a blogger (reviewer or vlogger) with a requirement that a positive review would result, then this review would be considered to be a marketing communication and should be identified as such.'

    From ASAI

Also going to add this. I'd imagine that is ambassador they mean below.

'Where celebrities are sponsored by brands or paid directly to promote a brand’s products, it must be clear that their posts are marketing communications.'

Oh really? Even if no cash is exchanged? I didn't know! I must go and check myself as well its been a while since I read the guidelines

Interesting. However I highly doubt they would ever admit there was a requirement for a good review. Would make their followers question everything.

Which is what is happening at the moment ;)

What is sponsorship if it's not wholly related to payment?

So will they have 2 brand ambassadors now? And will either use #ad #spon? Did MU Fairy ever get the second Renault that she said Renault were going to give her for the second half of 2016?

She had a cream and black jeep thingy, then she got a red and black version?
Can't remember when she changed over!

EDIT. yeah she became brand ambassador in Feb 2016 with the cream car, then picked up the red one in Sept 2016. Was annoying me so had to do a quick check!

I had to laugh when Anouska mumbled something about forgeting to use #ad cause 'it just doesn't feel like work' after someone picked her up on it on SC yesterday.

    !????

Bet she don't forget to collect the fat paycheque for said work though...

First time I EVER seen her use #ad on any of her platforms anyway- pretty easy to forget to do something you literally never do.

If it was a commercial jeep (Ie: no back seats)that might be different, I think you have a max personal mileage allowance enough. (Used to be a sales rep)
If it's a normal car/jeep then there's no personal mileage allowance, actually I was taxed the market value as bik on my salary. So say I was on 40k my salary had 10k added to it(what revenue worked out I would pay for tax, insurance, use of the car for the tax year) so my 40k salary was taxed as if it was 50k.
Utterly ****ty, but that's what happens when ordinary joe gets use of a car for work, so bloggers should be the same.
