I'd love to see him, supposed to be excellent live. But not sure if it will happen, from talking to a promoter about him before, it's a gamble based on the financials.

Loyle Carner is playing the Workmans on the 2nd Feb. Sold out though and I'm sickened.

Tickets on sale Friday. As they now have three solo albums out and gaining popularity I'd recommend buying tickets on Friday. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't sell out.

    And yes they're class live!

There are loads of non hip hop heads going to be going to this, I think their last one here was jammed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭Mickolution

Yeah, it was sold out anyway. I think I may have gotten the last ticket for that show.

His last gig was amazing. He has a live band called Good Company with him that really make the songs come alive.

I always wondered did he perform them live.

Side note - that's something I'd love to see. Loads of hip hop classics performed live. Saw it years ago on bleeker st in NY, cover band were killing it with a live set up

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

Live bands work really well with some, others not so much. Oddisee is a musician first and rapper second, so he knows how to work with the band to curate the sound.

I think I've seen live bands doing beats, say for example Premo beats, and it's just monotnous and doesn't work out well as Premo sticks to a formula of 16s and hooks.
Whereas Oddisee's beats tend to grow and mature over a track, so there is something for the band to do. Plus Good COmpany themselves are deadly and add their own flair.

That District Mag thing looks class. I'd say i'll head into it. The Lawrii Craic fella seems very strong from that "Judas II" video. Very slick first verse. I'm interested to see how Mythill Grim comes across live too.

EDIT: Also 5th Element album launch with This Side Up of Sligo on support, 11th February at the Academy.

    They sold out in minutes!

Although they appeared on SeatWave shortly after being sold out, not sure if there is any left there. They are probably at a massively inflated price if they are.

    About half that...

Yeah I think 37 or 39 or something like that.

Just checked ticketmaster again on the off chance, nothing there but a redirect to seatwave where the cheapest ticket is 79.

Oddisee in the sugar club was unreal last night. Savage musicians and great to see the man himself live.

Nas has UK dates for July on ticketmaster.

Saw him and half of Wu in the o2 academy in Glasgow in 15. Dream week.

Would love if Nas showed up over here.

And Main Source in August at The Sugar Club.

Anyone at Isaiah Rashad last night? I'da loved to have been there.

Going to a Rap is Full battle event in Wexford tomorrow. Not been keeping up with rap battles at all for the last 3 years but they've got a couple of big American battlers like Real Deal involved so should be good craic.

That looks like it could be decent, Ruairi done a good job on putting that together.

    Yes, he was good but...

Support acts were rubbish. His encore consisted of him taking his top off and dancing on stage (not rapping).

I went and the standard was ridiculous. Real Deal really put the work in with the writing no cliches or filler just pure quality the whole way through. The 3 UK rappers I hadn't seen before and they tore it down style and swagger wise. Even more surprisingly the Irish lads, particularly Podge who was a debut, were easily as good as anybody else. Whole thing was a cut above the DFI days by some margin you'll see when the videos are out.

Theres a couple of young lads called Versatile. They are only 19 and are playing their first ever gig in The Grand Social on 4th of May. Definitely worth checking out!!! They have HUGE social media support and look set to be great. Still very young but have got great support from Nialler and Rubberbandits and even got a shoutout from Russell Brand on twitter. Not bad for a couple of kids only out of school recording from their bedroom! Check them out on youtube!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Mcbumhole

Be honest Mr Farrell, are you in Versatile?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭RollieFingers

Did the versatile gig go ahead? Can't see anything about it online.

I don't know what a Versatile is hehe

Some new acts added to Longitude today - Gucci Mane, Yung Thug, G-Eazy, Earl, Mick Jenkins.

Already announced we had Mac Miller, Skepta, Stormzy so it's fairly hip hoppy.

Might get me a Saturday ticket.
