Here's an ideal subject for Joe to get his teeth into:

He can set up callers remembering funeral processions of the past, replete with undertakers mutes, horses with black plumage and coddle served by barrow boys.

"Modrin" was a style of house that was prevalent in the 1980s onwards.

All-Electric heating (so you can shiver when the power goes off, get all the candles out of the cupboard, and watch from the street when the house burns down, later).

Ultra-High Insulation Standard, but that was back in 1980, when High Insulation meant 2" of Aeroboard and if you were lucky, the builder's donkey actually took some care to place it properly. If you weren't that lucky, you were plagued with mysterious cold spots, draughts, and damp patches.

"Engineered Wood" in the roof trusses, so that the builders could use half the material an older house would use, and pocket the difference. If you're lucky, the roof is still straight and the tiles aren't falling off.

"Laminate Flooring" which means a cheap and nasty way of using up the sawdust from the floors of sawmills, whereby it is compressed into sheets and covered with a plastic PHOTOGRAPH of woodgrain and sealed with more resin.

    The list goes on.

For this imitation of housing, people lined up in queues around the block, desperate to kill themselves paying off mortgages they had no hope of completing in their lifetime, such was the urgency and drive to get on the housing ladder before the prices went even higher.

AFAIK, the council or corporation tend to gut these houses and re-fit them to a particular specification.
