In relation to being the first champ in 2 weights, How many other fighters have had the opportunity to fight for a second belt? I didn't not know if it has or hasn't happened before.

I honestly thought he was going to say I'm at the top, I'm retiring as double champion, I have realized my dream.

I was worried about that too, but it honestly looks like he's definitively not retiring.

As others have said, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't fight again until next Winter. Or perhaps one more fight very early in 2017 before a break.

People need to remember it's not just the fight, it's the months of intense training leading up to it. I just can't see anyone being comfortable making that kind of commitment if their baby is either due within a couple of weeks (and thus Dee would be heavily pregnant and in need of a lot of help and company) or just a few months old. If the baby is due in May (what was up with all the confusion over that ) then he could fight in February, then take the summer off, only training to stay fit and strong, before announcing a fight for November or December 2017 and taking the autumn to get back into full combat training.

That's just an opinion obviously, but I'd be very surprised if he doesn't take that sort of length of time away from competing. I just reckon the training commitment would be something he wouldn't be all that comfortable with at a time like that in their lives.

BJ. He lost to GSP before he lost to Edgar. After losing the LW belt he went back to 170, but never built up steam for a shot.
And he won the WW title originally before he won the LW title.

Only BJ Penn has attempted it as an incumbent champion. He failed, he won titles in both divisions separately.
But the opportunity was there for most if not all fighters who were willing.
GSP, Silva, Jones, Aldo, Pettis, Cruz, Mighty Mouse were all link to a shot at some point.


Edit:
Edgar and Demetrious Johnson are two others that fought for a title in another division, but not while champ. 145 and 135 respectively. Both lost.
