He's been under WADA and USADA testing for most of his adult life, he's been tested more than any other MMA athlete on the planet. If he's using steroids he deserves a medal for being able to not get caught this long.

Wiki- 'Eventually on April 4, both parties reached an agreement for a six-month suspension. USADA revealed that Romero tested positive for ibutamoren, a growth hormone release stimulator. An unopened version of the supplement was independently tested and the banned substance did indeed come up, even though it was not listed on the label. Romero announced that he'll pursue legal action against the supplement company within the next few weeks. The result of the Souza fight was not overturned as it was an out of competition test that occurred after the fight – Romero passed both his pre-fight and fight night tests for the Souza fight'.

I wish someone would taint my supplements.

I think floyd's lack of tiredness is obviously to do with him being a great athlete, but I can't help but think it's also his fight IQ and how he manages, especially with that defence. One fight I saw, he was clearly taking a prolonged breather (almost 1 minute) where he was simply moving his head on the ropes and blocking body shots, barely grazed so he was. That's like a between-round breather in the middle of a fight!

Absolutely but I think it's primarily the lifestyle he's led his entire life. Apparently never drank, never smoked, keeps mental hours but trains every day nonetheless.

I hate the sycophantic screaming of it in his gym but "hard work, dedication" goes a long way.

    Paulie Malinaggi:

    Q. Is it a done-deal for you to spar Conor and how did it come about?

    A. "Basically I used to spar with an Irish guy Dean Byrne (Crumlin Boxing) and he asked could he pass my number on to his brother Gerry, who then called me the day after Kovalev-Ward to be part of the camp.

I'm just waiting to sign my non-disclosure agreement because I'll be part of the media for this fight but it's moving in the right direction.

I'm going to go in and spar & box as well as I can, I don't expect it to be a picnic, I expect the sparring to be heavy and I'll play my part to try help him. I see my main role as helping him to do with tactics.

Conor is an athlete and a winner, put those things together, I expect the guy to be able to physically compete (with Floyd), it's more the tactical side of it I'm worried about. Should I be clinching, should I be bailing, should I be leaning, should I be countering, should I be punching, should I be running. Those are things you learn over many years. I think it's the decision-making in boxing that takes more time to learn.

I think he'll blossom in the tactical part of it with the right advice because he's a proven winner and great athlete."

In terms of doing the right thing in getting a "boxing brain" on board, he couldn't do much better then Malignaggi.

It's odd, both he and RJJ have taken far too many shots over the years and they've turned into absolutely brilliant analysts/pundits/commentators.

I wonder how much sparring partners are let in on the game plan?

People like Artem are surely aware of it all, but they are in the inner circle. Are the likes of Paulie let in on this stuff??

It was discussed earlier but this thing of sparring partners defending themselves on social media when Conor puts up a photo of them getting hit is absolute bollox. If your a paid professional sparring partner then surely you leave your ego out of it?? By all means tell your side after the fight happens.

That post got taken out of context. Your man was just saying that at least he knows he has a good chin because he wasn't floored by the uppercut in the picture.

They are all under an NDA and won't be able to discuss it with media or even friends.

Someone dropped 500 quid in my bookies for McGregor to win by ko/tko

McGregor to throw a kick and the referee to be knocked down by a punch
    1500/1

    Worth a euro at least?

They may as well have dropped it on the ground for the return they'll get.

Hardly. McGregor is not an idiot, and only an idiot would throw a kick in a boxing match. Not only an idiot, the special kind of idiot that only comes along once in a million people.

I can't believe Rogan was on his podcast saying that if McGregor throws a kick he'll become a hero. How anybody would find it funny, impressive, legendary or whatever is beyond me.

Would it be funny if somebody picked up the ball and ran away with it in a soccer match? Would it be funny if someone eye gouged in an MMA fight?

He could throw a kick at the start of a round to make floyd worry but far enough not to hit him with it. From loads of interviews I've seen boxers are terrified of being hit with anything except hands

I think that would be an idiotic thing for him to do.

I wouldn't pay much heed to the ramblings of a stoner.

Both to happen or just one?

Both. Its only 12/1 for mcgregor to throw a kick.

That's a ridiculous bet. Even for a euro.

You never seen a ref knocked down before? Never know in a fight like this where mcgregor isn't used to ref breakups.

A ref knockdown combined with a McG kick? Nah.

+1. For A AND B to happen you multiply the odds.

Should be 500,000/1 never gonna happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,577 ✭✭✭spix

Well I guess I'll never see that euro again. FML :D

Seriously though I wouldn't be surprised if mcgregor throws a kick at some point, doesn't have to land near mayweather. And the ref knockdown.... I'd say its a bit more likely than in a typical boxing match.

Of course they are, they are boxers. Kicking is not a part of the sport. I'd say they'd also be afraid of someone bringing a weapon into the ring.
