Who would the fight be under?

    The ufc?

    3 million

Maybe 5 million I don't know. My suspicion is it will surpass Floyd-Manny numbers based on the enormous casual fan interest.

I meant 3 million as a crazy high number . I can only speak for myself but forking out 80 dollars for it would be insane

Joint promotion between UFC and Mayweather I presume. And I think Mayweather fights on HBO?

I think it easily beat MayPac for numbers myself.

I seriously doubt it. That was considered by many to be a genuine contest. A lot of sports fans will not be willing to fork out 100 dollars for what they suspect will be an embarrassingly one sided fight.

It was, and his next fight against Berto did less than 10% of the Pacman fight.

While there was nowhere near such a dramatic fall off as that but McgGregor v Alvarez did the lowest out of the Diaz, Diaz2, and Aldo fights.

How many of the actual fans are looking forward to this fight, if it happens, in any way like they looked forward to all the other fights?

It would be doing well to hit 1 to 1.5 million imo

    That's not accurate -

    UFC 194 - 1m buys
    UFC 205 - 1.3m buys

Time will tell how big it gets, but I wouldn't rule out it surpassing Floyd-Manny numbers in terms of PPV. The gate will be ridiculously hard to surpass.

I don't see how it flops anyway. I'd be astonished if it did less than 2.5m.

People were saying similar things about the second Diaz fight and it ended up selling better than the first one.

People seriously over estimating the intelligence of American sports fans. This will easily do 4m buys. Every single American sports and celeb media outlets are talking about it. Every single boxer and MMA fighter gets asked about it in interviews. Its probably already the most hyped fight ever and it hasn't even been signed yet

I've had some friends asking me will it happen as they know I watch MMA and several of them called over to my house to see the klitchko Joshua fight.

These people who are as casual as casual can be about boxing let alone MMA are going to buy it because of the hype.

I reckon it will do monstrous figures if it happens farce or not.

I do t think it will break 5m.
But you're talking absolute pony saying it will do well to hit 1m.

All the boxing fans, deriding McGregors chances, mocking the match up, etc are still going to watch it. All the bars are going to be showing it. Not everyone is streaming or has a dodgy box

Mayweather fulfilled a six fight contact with Showtime - this one would go on whoever is willing to pay the most.

I reckon it will definitely sell well. I watch a lot of boxing myself, no MMA, I'm in the camp of those who think that this is complete farce. Will I watch it on PPV? Yes. For reasons which I cannot even rationalize to myself.

Surely this will be a sky box office job? Wont be shown on bt sports or sky sports

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,035 ✭✭✭skallywag

    I imagine Sky PPV.

It's being facilitated by Dana and the UFC who have a contract with BT.

I'd imagine they'd have a pretty big say in where it ends up.

Hope it's on BT, will save me shelling out more cash to Sky.

Is it? Nobody has a clue what the intricacies of the deal are out what arrangement there will be been Mayweather, McGregor and the UFC.

Even if Dana has an element of say in the matter, it would surely be in his interest to have it on Sky PPV rather than have it covered by the BT/UFC contract.

I'm looking forward to Froch and Bellew etc. having to pretend to the casuals that this is a competitive fight.

    Rogan in particular will be great craic to listen to on fight week;

"Floyd is unquestionably one of the greatest boxers of all time who rarely gets tagged, but you gotta remember, the canvas can get real slippery from all the sweat McGregor will exude from chasing after Floyd, and if Mayweather slips on that, this could get real interesting. I can't call this one, honestly."

Conor will take care of that when he sleeps Floyd in round 4.

No chance in hell this will be shown "free" on BT as part of the BT Sports package.

Yeah, I don't mind sticking my neck out saying it'll beat the 4.6m buys Floyd v Manny did but will fall short of the Gate Record (seriously how on earth did they do $72.1m at the gate). I could see them hitting $60 million tops on the Gate.

It's going to be massive, like a Thanksgiving or Cinco de Mayo type night where there will be watching-parties in every town in America. People who haven't watched a boxing fight since Tyson's prime will be tuning in just because literally everyone in the country is talking about it.

It'll be wall-to-wall build-up on all the major sports channels, documentaries going out, press conferences with ridiculous viewing figures etc.

BT are doing boxing now with a view to getting into the ppv market, so there's a chance they'll do it on their own ppv platform.

How do they determine fame? He's ahead of Rooney who would be much more well known worldwide.

How do you determine Rooney is more popular?

    Fame and popularity are different.
