    Conor's persona is annoying.

    His fighting remains great.

He reminds me of the Greek story flying too close to the sun and all.

He has created this narrative that his self-belief is what has powered his success. I think this is dangerous for him to believe in. For his size he has huge arm length and he has the Midas knockout touch. In other words his genetics are the main driving force behind his success, not his self-belief.

His self-belief is a useful tool for him no doubt, but it's his genetics.

I look forward to seeing him fight in the UFC again once this Mayweather farce is over

Nothing to do with the hours upon hours in the gym?

I'm done with this thread for a while. It's too much.

tbf This thread outlived its usefulness once McGregor became the biggest star in UFC. If you want to get some news on McGregor just have a look at mmafighting.com or any other fightsports-centric website; whatever mcgregor´s up to will be the first story. Having a mcgregor thread here is akin to having a Ronaldo thread on the soccer forum or a U2 thread on the music forum. There are too many people trying to have a go at someone successful and on the internet those who shout loudest unfortunately are the ones that get read.

Fair points but I do actually think the posters in here raise some interesting topics and come up with some decent conversation. Put it another way, I doubt they are talking about Tom Egan on Reddit. So it is useful to have a thread to discuss things like that related to Conor that don't warrant their own thread.

There's only so many times the Floyd and Khabib match-ups can be talked about. I like to think Conor himself knows this and that's partly why he got his skates on going over to Vegas and LA this week to actually get himself back in the news with some actual news to report i.e. his Nevada boxing licence.

Interesting GSP was announced (to return later in the year) at the exact time Conor is out in America meeting the owners, might be reaching but Conor GSP is booked and their using Floyd to even generate more news, will bump this when they fight in September #IllumantiConfirmed

GSP v Conor is the fight they'd like to do sure. Nothing surprising about that. Conor would be delighted to fight it at 170lbs and would surely ease him away from the boxing talk for such a big fight.

I'm not so sure if he'd be delighted about it. Sure, the money would be astronomical but I don't think he can afford another MMA loss so soon after the last one. A boxing loss to Floyd would do him no harm at all but getting grappled to death even by a legend like Georges wouldn't be the best idea in my opinion, it'd be a great fight to bow out with but I doubt Conor's at that stage yet.

I'd love to see it though all the same, my two favourite fighters ever in the same octagon, it'd be incredible.

Conor was happy to take on Nate at 170 because he didn't perceive him as a threat,
And because Nate was, for the last number of years , fighting at LW.
The rematch was 170 because he wanted everything to be the same as the loss.

He'll have a very different opinion of GSP imo. He's not an overblown LW chilling out at WW. He's the a solid WW, who's probably spent a lot of his retirement in the gym.

I'm not sure what that pic proves, it looks like GSP is slightly bigger, as in 1 division bigger.

Conor said after the Alvarez loss that "if you want to come after him you better have some attributes, size, height, reach...if you come in as an equal i'll take your head off"
    Or words to that effect.

GSP is slightly taller, slightly bigger and has a longer reach. He's also a better grappler.
The GSP and Mayweather fights are very different.

Conor will get obliterated against Mayweather due to the fact that it will be a boxing match and boxing is Mayweathers game.

I think Conor v GSP is a 2018 fight (if it happens).

GSP will take on Woodley/Wonderboy first, I imagine, and then if he wins surely the UFC put all their eggs in the Conor v GSP basket.

    It ticks all the boxes.

    Genuine superfight.
Chance for Conor to make history in 3 weight divisions.
    Massive PPV.
If Conor loses, still can claim he's rightful champ at 155/145.

GSP will still have to get past the winner (which I think will be Woodley) but he's more than capable of doing so. Probably favourite to do so.

Well Connor needs to fight to be called champ.
He ain't the 145 champ anymore.
He probably won't defend the 155 either next by the looks of it.
So hopefully they pull that belt off him too and he can run around saying he is the 2 weight champ without any belts.
It will get old pretty fast.
Plenty of guys to fight at 155, that's what he should be at.

A fight against gsp would be a cop out. Conor needs to fight the winner of Ferguson Khabib next to have any credibility for the sport. He hasn't defended any of his belts yet and that is not acceptable. A nonsense fight against Floyd is one thing but to come back to the UFC and fight anyone other than Khabib or Ferguson is a farce.

It would be anything but. I don't think the fight should be made either but going up against a (presumably still) elite, bigger, stronger man who happens to be one of the GOATs is hardly a cop out.

Plenty of "ring rust" there,he hasnt fought in the UFC in over 3 years.

I wonder are they pulling GSP out of retirement to tempt McGregor back to MMA? That would be a fight I'd like to see, it would be a proper fight too, not the money making racket that the fight with Mayweather would be.

Seen someone suggest before that Kavanagh will be getting 7 figure paydays from a McGregor fight as though he's getting paid 10-15% of his fight purse. No chance.

Will be doing very well out of the deal - and wouldn't be surprised if McGregor has sorted 'the team' out but his pay will be capped

How is taking on tougher opposition a cop out.

Sure it's holding up the division and arguably devaluing the belt but it's certainly not a cop out or easy option.

Is GSP really that much of a draw against Conor? Most of the McGregors fans would not have seen GSP before don't really think makes much of a diffrence who he fights, You'd have to expect UFC to really push GSP though try to get another much needed draw.

It would be the biggest selling UFC PPV of all time easily. 2 Million + buys.
