I think that's a bit dramatic. If something is 80 new, and you can buy it second hand for 50 after a visual inspection, you've saved almost 40%. Presumably, if it's up for 50, the seller would likely accept 40, which would be a 50% discount. I can't see what's silly or cheeky about that?

Not to mention that the savings could be a lot of money for some people.

Was selling a lawnmower, just a cheap hover one, at €20, willing to take a tenner. Had a few good photos up and links to the manual online etc. One person wanted a video of it to prove its works.

Yeah sure. I am as willing to throw it in a skip as sell it, like I'd go to that extra trouble.

Selling a PS4 game today for €35. Lowballer comes in offering €20 as he has to come collect.

Another user then offers asking price, lowballer comes back in saying he'll now pay €40 - before revealing he thinks the PS4 is included. For €35. Ffs.

Some real pond life on adverts who offer a ludicrously low price for something and when you reject they spin you some sob story about wanting it for a disabled child, or granny with dementia and 'have already promised them it'.

Ah yeah. Amazing how many people on adverts have children in the hospital awaiting operations when you're selling something.

Swap for any of my ads?

    Hhhmmm,

I see you have half a ham sandwich and 5 minutes of armpit sex behind a Centra in your ads.

    Swap accepted.

There are some chancers out there all right. I had a dvd box set for sale once. Cant remember how much.
One nutjob responded '€5 offered and you pay postage to Meath'.

Took down the ad and gave the boxset to charity. Cant be dealing with that.

I have sold a few watches in the €200-500 range on there though and generally that seems to go fine.

Was selling a 500GB 2.5" laptop hard drive once and asking €15.

    Buyer: "Offer 5 inc. postage"

Me: Sorry that's ridiculous, it would cost that much to post.

Buyer: "Any more and I'd be better off buying a new one".

Go online to check new price. €40.

they literally do no moderation of their own now.
the only way anything gets acted on is if somebody reports it (and a lot of rule breaches don't fall under any of the subcategories for reporting), so their effectively expecting the users to do their job for them.
then when you do report anything, there's at best a 50/50 chance of it ever being acted on, and if it is, it's usually too late or the offender just gets a slap on the wrist and they can go doing the same rule-breaking thing or repost same the offending ad.

but yes, it's the best thing they ever did.

The paid staff do most of the moderation. There are a few of us that still chip in when needed. Given the userbase and the number of people employed to handle reports, it's a fair achievement.

Its because they aren't doing 9/10 of the moderation, or policing that would fix the problems we care complaining about. . I don't care if its in the public domain or not. As far as I can see there is mostly no moderation. The site is full of dead ads, and commercial spam and other spam ads. The whole PM for €1 and a bunch of other things are entirely not moderated. They are just ignored. I've used it from when it was part of boards. I find it vastly less useful than it used to be. But I realise it doesn't matter. Its no longer aimed at people like me.

My withdrawn ad rate is close to 150%. If I look a commercial seller, their sold to ads ratio is 5%. That is horrific. Maybe that's not representative of the adverts overall. But it mirrors my experience on adverts over that past few years.

I doubt anyone cares. There enough to sales to make it work. They only moderate critical stuff. End of.

This is true, it's a business now and there are people depending on it to take home some pay every week. You are correct, it is no longer aimed at people like you, it has moved on. Shame in a way but, as I said, it's not a charity.

A Moto Watch for 160? Are ya mad? I saw these on eBay for 45 and no offers. Besides, it doesn't have a coffee making facility so no, definitely not

I think these people are related to the ones in hospital who couldn't meet the seller on the appointed day.

I'll assume that's satire, but I've not had my coffee yet.

Fiancé fell pregnant and couldn't fit iN it! We ended up eloping on our own anyway so a big regular dress wasn't required.

I was selling a large leather suite of furniture. Cost €3200 new but I put it up for €150 as I just wanted to someone to take it away.
One couple called to the house and she was very surprised when she saw it - "........oh, its not new......."

What were you expecting for 150 quid?

Get out of my house you clown!
