Thing is though if he wins matches it’s just natural talent, but when he loses - as they all do from time to time - it’s because he doesn’t give a sh!t. Just a lazy analysis really and almost certainly not accurate.

Don't see how it's lazy analysis to be honest. He can still win and not give a damn.

Even looking over the tournaments he has won over his career. It's not a coincidence it's been the big ones pretty much exclusively.

Psychology goes under-the-radar in Ryder Cup for me. I'd say he just wants the season to end...not have this to go through.

Still has a putt for birdie. Would be huge if he can make it.

You're basing this on nothing though. I've never seen McIlroy get so fired up as he does at the RC. He's said nothing in the run up to this that would suggest you're right. Quite the opposite in fact.

That could all be true but still doesn’t warrant the charge that he doesn’t give a fck about the competition, imho anyway. Clearly his head space probably not the best right now, but as we know that can all change very quickly in this format. A good hole, a single shot even. I’ll bet you’ll see a pretty animated response if and when that happens.

his first in over 20 holes?

McIllroy and Poulter off to a shocker.

Can't see it but two down after 3 is not good against Watson/Simpson.

Spieth has got his putting boots on. Remarkable when he's on song.

    he's never given a shít.

Europe should really be looking to win those foursomes 3-1 this afternoon.

at worst, they need to end the day 5-3. any worse, considering the pairings out this afternoon, and I don't hold out any hope for the rest of the weekend.

It was interesting watching the video of Rory et al arriving at the hotel with him getting out of the courtesy car with a baseball cap on back to front. From the body language he hardly had his game face on and that coupled with the fact that Woods humbled him at the Tour Championship a day earlier.

Phil in the water off the tee with a driving iron.

Fleetwood misses a 6 footer to win the hole.

you honestly can't continue to miss these lengths of putts as a team and expect to remain competitive.

I can see Phil having some water trouble.

And.... Into the gank he goes.

    Shocker from Phil!

Poor Poulter needs to get used to hacking out sideways.

Crazy luck from Bill Cosby earlier and I'd deffo have put Casey out this avo.

The dechambeau/Mickelson pairing really is such a terrible choice by Furyk.

Pairing a debutant who can be a bit twitchy at the best of times with such an out of form Mickelson, in foursomes, just doesn't make sense. Whatever about in fourballs where Mickelson might pick up 3/4 birdies and his terrible shots might still not lose holes.

They really haven't a hope imo and it could drag dechambeau down for the rest of the weekend too.

Can see Rory turning this around, early days yet. Let's see how he's done come Sunday

Maybe nobody else wanted to play with him.

it is beyond bizarre. completely baffling.

as you said, with Mickelson's form, you can't put him in anything but fourballs, where he might at least go maverick and win a couple of holes with crazy shots.

He drove in the water on 1st and thick rough on 3.

The last time he played this competition, he was too enthusiastic and pumped up (partly why he lost to Reed).

But that actual evidence of how much he actually cares is nothing compared to the evidence of him wearing a baseball cap backwards a few days before this years competition.

    McIlroy is in massive decline

He's looking like that character Brendan Grace, the comedian, created for fun.

Wasn't overly fond of Bjorn's pairings

Putting 4 rookies out this morning was an awful decision.
