Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone else find that they have clusters of upsetting dreams? I find I can often have two bad dreams a night, two or three nights in a row. Common themes are rejection and humiliation. I can't identify any triggers.

I've had nights like this. Each time I jolt awake from one, my side of the bed is soaked in cold sweat. In mine I often have rejection betrayal and physical injuries. No idea why but i hate them.

I once had a doctor tell me I was getting "too much sleep" so this was happening. I now am lucky to get 6-7hrs a night and I still get them. They suck.... especially the ones where you can't tell if it's real or still a dream.

I have serial dreams with the same theme, whereupon someone steals my netbook when I turn my back to buy coffee or add cream in one of the javahouses I frequent. They occur randomly over past months, not knowing what triggers them. Such dreams have influenced my behaviour, where I never let my netbook out of sight or by bringing it with me.

Repetitive. Upsetting rare. Dreams entertain. Like spooky films. Dreams too.

    Time to post!.

I dream a lot, i think it's related to the fact that i don't always sleep very deeply but i'm open to correction.. I will have dreams that are like TV shows where they 'continue' from where i left off last time so to speak. These usually start out quite dull and boring but soon become nightmarish and/or very very confusing. Sometimes when once has been reaching a conclusion i can find it hard to restore reality when i wake up..

You should write up your Grem Tales, which may work for grand fiction.

YES! I know exactly what you mean. Nice way of putting it.

My own dreams are rarely nightmares, but they are often being being subjected to bullying, humiliation, loss etc. This all happens in familiar settings too and by people I know. It really messed with my head when I wake up, and results in my bedtime safeplace becoming not much so.

Haven't had them in a few weeks now thankfully. :)

Awhile back when teen, I used to have recurrent night terrors with the same dream theme, which, if you look way, way back on this forum you probably can find mention of them. Thankfully I outgrew them and they have not reoccurred.

I'm delighted to hear that, BS. :)

I used to have the same nightmare since as long as I can remember. The only way I can describe it is that I'm being pushed through a pipe. It's dark, enclosing, and there's a terror within. Horrible dream.

Back then I lost a flatmate after I woke up screaming one too many times. Glad I outgrew those kinds of dreams years ago. I still have my missing netbook repetitive dream, where it disappears from my locale javahouse when my back is turned. Had one about a month ago or so.

Gosh, I had another recurring nightmare of someone stealing my netbook. Not sure if the dream setting was our locale javahouse or elsewhere, but it was once again very discomforting. When out and about, such recurrent dreams make me watch my nettie like a hawk!

Or maybe it's the contents that you are hiding. Don't mean that in a sinister way by the way :)

Naaaaaa, any "contents" that may be of interest to others, be they fun, or hot and spicy, or of intellectual property are not saved on my little netbook, rather on a massive external drive that's never connected online. I have to do this, because unlike my main rig at home, or work lab rig, both of which have layers upon layers of protection, my nettie is too often used at unsecured wifi hotspots, and to save things on it would be asking for trouble. Of course I do surf on my nettie like anyone else, but risque things not saved, only boring things that would make you YAWN.

I am so tired today, dreams are upsetting me because they leave me so confused when i wake, genuinely questioning if i did or said things or just dreamt them..

I have but they were quickly forgotten when I woke up thankfully. It is hard to shake off the residual fear or guilt though.

I had a dream last night where I had a huge hole in one of my lower inner incisors. When I woke up this morning, I kept on searching for it with my tongue. Took me a few minutes to realise that it was only a dream, which was a relief.

Confused dreams. Me too. Sometimes. Others vivid. Awake questioning. Am I awake?

How often have you taken an early afternoon nap, perhaps on a weekend or holiday, awoke completely disoriented, not knowing if it was late the same day, or the next morning? Yikes, I just did and awoke a few minutes ago, completely out-of-it, not knowing if it was Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. I had to get on bloody computer while still a fuzz brain to confirm day, date, and time. Methinks Swannie has been working a bit too hard and is starting to lose it.

Hasn't happened in a while thankfully, though i live very much by my alarm clock :o
It did happen once during a very chaotic stretch in March, so confused i didn't trust the time on my phone or telly!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 47,335 CMod ✭✭✭✭Black Swan

Well, I've only been awake for a few minutes since that nap, and I am still very much disoriented at the moment. May be a combination of factors, my project-driven work that can go 24/7 until my part is done, new demanding work responsibilities, in addition to a recent sports injury with lots of stitches and meds. Still out of it! Hmmmmmmm, Swannie knows the ultimate solution, and that's refuel with magic bean java!

Added to this, my flatmate has been working around the clock for a couple weeks now, looks like a zombie, going to university, then political phone banks, then bed without fun breaks. She and her fellow students are on phones night and day trying to flip Nevada to elect the first female president of the US.

The election is Tuesday, and she will be free from that crazy all hours task, and this coming weekend is 3-day, with Veterans Day Friday off for both of us. Sounds like party time! Anything would be better than the disorientation dream I woke up to this afternoon.

Yes, methinks that awareness fashions behaviour a bit Grem, and conscious thinking about dreams while awake more often, may not only foster more dreams, but also their recall.

I would agree, i have a dream 'series' and often thoughts i would have about possible plot developments come to pass though often in very different ways to what i had surmised..

Maybe by sharing your dreams Hugo, especially nightmares, you could become Eire's next virtual online Edgar Allan Poe?

I don't necessarily have a "cluster" of upsetting dreams but do have two recurring dreams, which usually only happen if I wake up and fall back to sleep after a while.

One of them involves me in my room and it's covered in spider webs and spiders.

The other is a dream about a very colourful slimy spider like creature, creeping towards me or just lurking around me, and as I notice it more and more in the dream it gets bigger and bigger.

Yes, I had one of those recurrent dreams recently, where I woke up remembering it, and resumed it after drifting back to sleep.

Well, I had an unusual one the other night. I was either visiting or starting to work at this military looking place: parts of it looked like offices but other parts were cramped like on a submarine. I remember meeting the commander or whatever briefly and he did not like me one bit. There were no words that I can remember, but I could tell that he didn't like me. Suddenly in the same dream, I was back over in the streets of Krakow. I was with a girl who I presume was my dream girlfriend. Across the street junction (like to the east) was this group of local guys hanging out. My dream girlfriend crossed up to the north to take a photo of a cathedral while I kept walking and crossed the street in the direction of the guys. Suddenly they all ran at me and flicked out knives. They were doing like boxer fighting stances at me while circling me, all the while jabbing their knives at me. Suddenly I was back in my hotel. I somehow knew the military commander was behind this, and I was both scared and angry. I went back to the military place again and encountered him in the submarine style part of it. I tried to push past him in the corridor and it was a tight squeeze: I got like a sexually malevolent vibe from him. Once I got past him, the entire place was deserted, and I felt a panic. Suddenly I was in a place that in the dream was my local college, but it looked nothing like it does in real life. I was with my mother and we were admiring the layout. That's all I remember. Up until the "act" of the dream, it was not a pleasant experience, but I didn't startle awake sweating or anything thankfully.

I'm having weirdly realistic dreams again, mainly massive arguments with people close to me, took two hours and a lot of caffeine to pull myself together today. I row with one particular family member and we would have had problems in the past but that's all gone but it's quite brutal in the dreams..
