well spotted so the link on https://www.pgatour.com/ was referencing the previous year. Something to look forward to in a few weeks and hopefully a good performance from Seamus.

The 42 players is the field from this year, Seamus is qualified for 2022 event.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

    Ha!

Good stuff, hopefully Seamus will make the most of it.

Still not sure that the weaker field event winners should qualify, you're only in them because you didn't qualify for the better field event that week. So probably something inequitable about it for the guys who didn't qualify and didn't play in the weaker field events.

    Whatever, come on Seamus!!

They already don't get invited to the Masters so that's enough punishment for them

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,507 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Seamus confirmed for next week, 39 man field out of the 40 eligible. Only McIlroy not going.

Schauffelle is in because he won an Olympic gold medal. Seamus is in the because he won a PGA tour event, he absolutely deserves to be there.

Good start by Seamus at The Sentry Tournament 2 under through 5

  • Registered Users Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Golfhead65

Jinxed him, he double bogied par 3 8th and is even par through 9

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,742 ✭✭✭Motivator

An encouraging but slightly disappointing opening round for Seamus. Was -2 and playing very solidly before Sky Sports decided to show him playing into the par 3 8th where his ball ended up in the long stuff. Level par after 9 and birdied 4 holes on the back but dropped two shots including one on the 18th.

Its very easy to make mistakes on that course with the wind and players are being heavily penalised for the slightest mistakes. I’d say the mistakes Seamus made were minimal but he paid dearly for them. But, 6 birdies in his opening round is very encouraging and I see no reason why he can’t shoot 4 or 5 under this evening to get himself into the mix going into the weekend. This tournament is the definition of a free go at a huge win and big prize money. No cut, guaranteed prize money and as good a field as any major. I pray he gets paired with Justin Thomas or Rahm to give him experience playing competitive golf against one of the top players in the world.

    Flying start to round 2.

It is indeed. Wow. 2 or 3 under on the back nine would have him in great shape.

  • Registered Users Posts: 217 ✭✭patob

Steady so far on the back 9, another birdie would be fantastic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 217 ✭✭patob

Wow, eagle for Seamus and joint leader.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,403 ✭✭✭boardise

A second eagle 3 !! Now joint leading with 3 to play -but hot guys playing behind him may push him down a bit. Nonetheless a super display . Seamus showing he can dine at the top table.

Casually stroked it in and walked off like it's no big deal. Probably won't be leading at the end of the round but he's put himself right in contention. Savage round so far.

Usual story with Séamus not being a big name or UK player.... sparse coverage unfortunately.

As an aside Matsuyama's approaches are just a joy to watch.

Great to see that last putt drop. -10 is in great shape for the weekend.

What an unbelievable round of golf from Seamus Power this evening. He could have picked up probably another two shots as well he missed a four footer on the 3rd or 4th hole and his putt on 16 sat on the edge of the hole.

He learned from his mistakes yesterday and really put the foot down today. Bogey free and two eagles is some going. He’ll need another 2 days of it now though as I can see 23 or 24 under winning this tournament. It’s remarkable how comfortable he is and looks to be taking it all in his stride. A win might be a bit fanciful but a top 5 here would be some start to the year and would really set him up going forward.

I said it after he won the Barbasol that with the pressure off we’d seen the real Seamus. I think we’re starting to see it now. I genuinely think he’ll win again this season and really cement his place on tour. He’s playing the next 6 weeks in a row so he’s got a great opportunity to get another win.

great sfuff from Seamus although this one of those courses its nearly impossible to catch up if you have a modest start.Hoping for a high finish and looking forward to next few weeks.6 under on par 5s ,some going.

Just texted in to Newstalk to get them to mention Seamus in their Irish golfer forecasts for 2022. Naturally Shane, Rory and Leona were their main subjects but Seamus deserves coverage too.

Great stuff from Seamus last night, hopefully he can maintain that form tonight. Scoring is crazy, when there is no wind and they can lift and drop, its a walk in the park for these guys. The place itself looks fabulous, seems like a different world, envious watching it as the rain pours down outside.

Normal play resumes tonight for the 3rd round so it isn’t ball in hand. The scoring won’t be as good tonight as the course is still not fully dry, it’s just dry enough for them to play normal rules of golf.

Mudballs could be an issue on nearly every one of the par 4s and par 5s. With some many undulations on the course and the players are playing onto slopes they’re bound to catch a few muddy spots which could make things very interesting. Seamus is probably 2 or 3 shots too many adrift to really make a go of it but stranger things have happened.

Jaysus Seamus shoots a bogey free 4 under and loses ground, leader 26 under after 3 rounds and Seamus drops from top 10 to 14th joint, mad scoring

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,592 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

Seamus shot a 4 under par 69 last night. Normally sohoting 4 under on a Saturday keeps you moving in the right direction, but the scoring was crazy, Rahm and Thomas leading the charge with a pair of 61s.

Nevertheless Seamus is holding his own sitting in a tie for 19th going into the final round. He is just two shots outside of the top 10 so that should be his target tonight. It would get him another good lump of world ranking and fedex cup points.

This is a real wheelbarrow event with everyone carrying home loads of cash. Last place banks $100,000 so no matter what he goes home with a nice payday. Imagine how thrilled we would have been this time last year to see Seamus pick up $100,000. It just shows how far he has come.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,284 ✭✭✭dublin49

yeah made point before on these easy courses you cannot afford even one modest round or you cannot catch up as winner will be shooting an average of 6 or 7 under per day.So if you -1 or -2 you need a 60 or 61 to get back in the mix, wouldnt watch this type of golf unless one of our own is figuring in mix.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,742 ✭✭✭Motivator

The difference between 39th & 10th is only $95k. 9th upwards is getting into the bigger money but it’s the ranking points Seamus will be looking for. The prize money is what the caddie wants!

I think Seamus will need probably 27 or 28 world ranking points between now and the end of March to get inside the top 50 in time for the Masters. Depending on his finish this evening he could get 4 or 5 maybe more this evening. There’s a cut off for the ranked players and then there’s some spots reserved for the Texas Valero winner and one or two more I think.

Didn't stay up too late and didn't see any of his round (not sure if they showed any of it?), should be a good finish tonight but again won't watch too much of it. To me it looks like when the conditions are as perfect as they have been, the minimum score you need to be looking at is 5 under, at least birdying the 4 par fives and one of the 'short' par 4s. So anything less than that and you are most likely losing ground. Seamus 'only' shot 4 under last night so dropped down. I think he needs to be targeting 7 or 8 under tonight to climb back up the leaderboard. As someone else mentioned didn't think we would be saying that about Seamus this time last year, shows you the progress he has made. Looks like a shoot out between Smith and Rahm. The roll of the ball on some of those holes is incredible, the ball seems to go on forever.

-5 after 15 holes R4 so just outside top 10.

Good start for the year with 4 rounds (no cut i know). Presume he'll play next week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭Scrabbel

Very solid showing at -20. Should make him around $130k for a handy start to the year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,284 ✭✭✭dublin49

minus 20 and not in top 10,Mad stuff

Mighty show from Seamus. Apart from tame first round -where the double bogey was a killer- he played the last three rounds bogey free in 18 under. It was like a mini major with 17 of the top 20 there and Seamus didn't look out of place. If he can sharpen up his mid range putting a little he should contend quite frequently this season.

Just saw where Schauffele eagled the last -the 675 yard par 5 ! -just shows you what you're up against trying to win out there.
