I think I'm going to cry. What an amazing journey to get this far and what an incredible performance.

I'm so happy for KC. It's hard to fathom how difficult it is to run a time that fast. Twill be some night in Rotterdam this evening.

Are we now certain he ran 2:29:59? Website has him on the far side of 2:30.

Bad day at the office myself
Tried to outsmart a cold and paid the price. Got to 15km and was seeing stars so checked HR and I was at 98% of HR Max.
Had to dial the pace back a lot and suffered with cramp toward the end so miles off my sub 3 goal and home in 3:29
Dublin Runner and Krusty's times are even more impressive when you take the heat today into account

His strava has him as 2:30:06 'moving time' and he's labeled is as 2:29:59 so here's hoping :) He's was also 1st M45

Tough day out there for us mortals. Suffered in the heat and came home in 3.07. Not the target but a couple of mins of a PB. I've never known the last 6 miles to drag like that before!

Came in at 2.54.12 per gun time so hopefully will get a chipped time of 2.53.xx.

Didnt run the smartest race and tailed off during the final 10km with the heat a significant factor so there may be some room for improvement. But a first sub 3 was the target so very satisfied overall.

My abiding memory will be following a hot woman's arse for the first 17km before I managed to pass her. She ended up overtaking me around the 37km point.

Paddy Murphy's a bit quiet. Have to run to the airport. I'll just leave this here....

Wasn't that way 12 months ago!!! From looking at the official results Gary is 2.30.01 first M45. Ireland claimed 3rd in this age category to by a club mate of mine in 2.40.xx.

Good day by Mrs JB taking 12mins off her PB. Not a fan of the course as congested in parts but the weather was good.

Well done Gary, that's a bloody stellar performance.

Happy with the day. Had to dig deep in the last few k. It was fierce hot.
I think I set records for heart rate towards the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,016 ✭✭✭Itziger

Lads, I think I posted this on his Strava page, but in all fairness the two seconds either way do not make a damn bit of difference to what is a spectacular performance. Of course we all get caught up in the magic numbers (I've been on the sub-3 merry go round for a couple of years now) but 2.29.59 or 2.30.01, it just seems stupid to celebrate one and not the other.

First M45, now that is fairly special in one of Europe's and the World's top marathons.

And 41st overall is also phenomenal.

So proud of Gary. What a run.

Honestly? The first thing I asked to the OH crossing the line was how he got on.

He doesn't know his Heineken from his Trappist Westvleteren but why hold that against him?!

No matter the time. No matter the experience, training or upbringing. It's really about leaving nothing out on the course. Just run your heart out.

    The marathon. What a distance.

Well done KC! What a fantastic performance in tough conditions. Actually well done everyone who managed to get through Sunday. 3:42 for myself - a long way off the 3:30 target but still an 11 minute pb so delighted. Felt good up to 14/15 miles then felt the energy just draining away when the heat started to ramp up, slowed my pace but the wheels came off at 18 miles after which it was a slog to finish, my new goal was now to finish without stopping which was a big battle (that I won).
If I went out at a 3:40 pace I would have probably have come in sub 3:40 but on reflection I don't regret going for it, I would be left with a bigger pb but with questions about what could have been, I'm glad I went for it. Will see how I recover over thee coming days and may take a stab at Limerick (if my OH lets me :)).

The thought had crossed my mind too if I can shake this flu in the next week

A good bit off my hoped for time, but at least I got to halfway more or less on target. I crossed the timing mat here in 1:17:34, but I knew the game was up from about 10 miles in. I might have another stab at breaking 2:35 in 2018, but I'll slink back to the triathlon forum for the time being.

Here's my report for anybody who might be interested; http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=103198506&postcount=713

Krusty and dublin runner, it was good to meet you both and congratulations on two superb races. I met a few other Irish as well, but never got round to discussing boards. So if any of you happen to be reading, the same to you.
