Ugh, I hate that they show the combined download sizes.

Downloaded it and played for 5 mins.

    I hate it already

Yeah I agree and I’m definitely in the minority of course, we all have our own tipping points when it comes to subscription services I guess.

I’m starting to think that this increase is now bringing it to the price point that Sony were intending from the start. The first year was an unofficial introductory price to retain/add as many customers as possible.

But they tried, making rewards tiny and a lottery ticket system combined with the ability to spend real money to buy credits to get the better cars.

Tried Saints Row. Haven't done much, but it's not yet as bad as I expected. However, I'm not at the Saints creation part yet so I'm expecting it to get worse then. The intro mission was meh, and the combat has no feeling. Have only unlocked a few side missions/activities, driving is acceptable but again feels floaty or like there's no connection, like going from driving a 90s car to a modern car, you don't feel the car.

I'll give it a small bit more time, but Saints Row it is not. They probably would have done better with a different name.

They would have done better if they just remade SR 2 :(

I've spent close to 100m of in game credits in grand turismo, which I earned through the game, just playing it, not grinding it. Not once have I purchased credits, I just dedicated some time and practice to it, so it is definitely not pay-to-win nor is getting to a high level secured behind some pay wall. Do you think all games should have a learning curve akin to animal crossing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,515 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

You're completely missing the point. I haven't spent a cent either, but I need to buy certain cars to complete things. I can spend hours grinding Tokyo and LeMans for the most credits to slowly afford these, or I can spend real money to get it quicker. Sounds like pay to win to me. I can pay to win the cars instead of grinding to earn. It's not exactly the same, but as close as a game can get imo without being fully P2W. As I said, they tried.

Anyway, thought I was gonna play more SR tonight, but it appears Starfield either is already available or will be at 1am so gonna be stuck to that now and will probably never return to SR. Oh, yeah, that's the other thing I remembered. Felt like a PS3 game with somewhat better graphics. Far from a eol PS4 game.

Starfield is already available, it launched early this morning for non Premium owners/Game Pass subscribers.

And you missed my point. Practice makes perfect and if you think you can just pick up the game and just win it without learning the skill of actual driving, then of course you're going to think it's pay to win. Having a good car doesn't win you races without having some kind of skill developed by practice, that's where you're failing

I've no issues with winning. I win every Tokyo and LeMans 30 minutes ones. They're the only ones I play because they're the only ones that respect my time and give me a somewhat decent credit reward (500-800k) in a game where a recent menu book means I've to spend close to 14 million. Or, I can spend €100 real money and buy them that way. To me, that's P2W. I appreciate the negative remarks about my abilities though. Sound.

Fyi Turkey PS Plus Extra has jumped from 400 lira to 2340 lira (81 euro) 🤯. A nearly 500% increase. Damn.

Edit: has to be a mistake surely? Turkish gamers must be going bananas. Imagine if we got a 500% increase here.

Just got the email from them

The price for your current PlayStation Plus Premium 12 month subscription will be increased to EUR 151.99. This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.

I'd say a big increase in Turkish accounts from abroad has a lot to do with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,375 ✭✭✭jj880

Im reading this morning Sony have tightened everything up along with the increase. Cant even buy now via proxy/vpn if you wanted to. So why the need for the massive increase?

I see the Turkish Lira has tanked 75% of its value against Euro in the last 5 years so an adjustment was needed but 500% is nuts.

Seems very unfair on Turkish gamers.

I've never paid more for essential than the black friday price the last 3 or so years, I wonder what that price will be now.

Maybe there was a case for an small increase given how the world is atm with energy prices, inflation etc but an increase of the size that they went with feels like its their bottom line rather than just covering increasing costs they care about.

Sony are a company so they want to generate good profits obviously but it just feels like they have little respect for the user base

With the increase in game prices as well its all starting to get a bit hard to stomach

Maybe its a ploy to get people to stop getting Premium so they can say there's no interest in the Premium offerings so they're no longer going to spend money updating the classics.

I see that Sony have taken the Amazon route of renewals and that rather than switching off renewals of the sub, you need to choose to cancel it (I assume to give people the yips about "cancelling" in advance).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,027 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Yeah, even if you turn off auto renew it turns itself back on upon updating your subscription.

It even does it if you are using prepaid cards and have no payment method saved. Really s**ty practice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,375 ✭✭✭jj880

Hold up. Even if you remove your payment method Sony will keep your card details on file and try to renew a year later? Is that even legal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,027 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

They can only use the payment details currently associated with your account, if you remove all your payment methods the renewal will fail.

They will turn auto renew on at time of subscription even if there is no valid payment method for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,367 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

The issue is that when you subscribe or resubscribe you are subscribing/resubscribing for an ongoing annual subscription (and not for a single one-year subscription). So you actively have to subscribe and then "cancel" it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,515 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Sounds like most subscriptions I'm tied into. But I'm not a fan of how they re-enable it if you make a change, but that's probably somewhere in the T&Cs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,375 ✭✭✭jj880

Im a bit slow on this but think I have it now. So they take every opportunity possible to turn on auto renewal. They will try to renew knowing a percentage of people will have a payment method saved. If you havent stacked you get renewed at full price. Lousy.

Is there still a 2 week cancellation period from renewal?

Because it decided to renew itself last time, I got on to Sony, and they generously refunded me even though “they weren’t under by obligation to”. They only became generous once I asked them how it had managed to switch auto renew back on, despite it being switched off.

I have just checked again now because of this thread, and lo and behold it has switched it back on again, despite not having changed anything.

Have a look again after the next software update. Would be interesting to see if it turns on again after one of those.

    From the usual leaker

Link isn't working from me but from Resetera the list is

    • Nier Replicant
    • Star Ocean Divine Force
    • 13 Sentinels
    • Civ VI
    • Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2
    • Unpacking.

I only bought Nier recently so should've expected it.

I've wanted to try Unpacking since release but yeah.... list doesn't exactly scream extra quality.
