    Hi All,

Has anyone used Surefirewood?? They appear to have a base in Northern Ireland. Prices seem good but Im wondering about the quality.

So yesterday marked the first day of the year the house temp didn't drop under 17 degrees so the heating didn't need to turn on.

I hdd a look at the leftover logs and I reckon I've still got around 20% of the pallet left. With only the odd weekend fire needed till October I'd say that was a great bargain.

What quantity did you start out with? Had 1.2m3 myself and now down to the last 20 logs so will get another 4 fires out of it. Think I'll have to buy a few of the net bags in a DIY shop as April does have the odd very cold night when a fire would be nice.

Must admit Im going to miss the fire in the summer. Its not just about the heat for me, I could stare at logs burning away for hours on end. Its almost hypnotic.

My 600kg of Ash finished last week so ended up ordering the 450kg of Beech from co-op superstore which will probably cover me for the first month or two of next winter now.

I got the co-op deal think it was a 1.2m pallette for €199. Will get a few more fires going as I like them. Might get a fire pit for a summer evening and chuck a few in it.

Yea but still decent value imo, the other one was crazy cheap. Will be watching their site for a similar deal next winter.

I actually think it was a mistake considering how quick they changed it at the time.

How often and for how long were ye all having fires going?

Ive a Charnwood Cive 2b boiler stove and ive burned easily twice what was in those crates.

Only light ours in the evenings. If the weather is mild will just stick the oil on for a couple of hours so some weeks it might not get lit at all. If we were lighting it every day I doubt a crate would last even 2 months.

We're the opposite. Turn the rads on in the evening to heat the house and water. Light the fire in the sitting room early afternoon or when someone is home. We burn turf mainly and supplement with some coal.

What do you make of this offer €95 for a teleporter bucket of hardwood timber ?

Did you go ahead with this in the end.

Is €199.95 a decent price for 450kgs of Kiln dried Beech?

where di u see that deal, seems pretty good, but with oil so low, it might fall lower

Hard to tell vic as measuring by weight is a direct relation of how much moisture is in the wood. Im supposing its sold as 20% or under? What is the cubic metre volume of it? iirc the best deal last winter on here was 199 for 1.2m3 with free delivery from the Co-op but they ended the free delivery within a couple of weeks, it might have been a pricing mistake. That was ash/birch though, not beech.

No measurement on the pallet given unfortunately

yeah its hard to tell from a picture what it is.I think firewood is always best compared by cubic volume instead of weight. It *might* be 1.2m3 and if it is that is a great price. If its only 1m3 then its not as good value. Is delivery included though?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,403 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

    Not sure on delivery

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,610 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

well if delivery is included then it would be a great price especially if it was 1.2m3, Id be tempted at that myself. It might be 40 or 50 euro extra though, their website doesnt seem to have details.

It's 49 euro delivery so the same weight crate of beech from coop superstore for 239 works out about a tenner less.

yeah had thought that delivery might be on top of the headline price.

Does the price of firewood ever drop in the summer at all or just remain stable year round. Id be tempted to stock up now for the winter but only if it came down a bit, otherwise theres no point really as Im not planning on using the stove again till October.

Same as that, hasn't been lit in about three weeks now and likely won't be again until then. I find most places just don't have wood in stock this time of year and the places that specialise close up for the summer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,610 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

yeah probably not that many stocks about anyway. Had hoped to see an offer or two on to tempt me but anything Ive seen is more or less the same cost as it was in winter. The poor log store out the back is looking sad and empty though so I might change my mind yet.

Hello wood burning folk, great thread.

Had a look at the website https://tjomahony.ie/88beech450-1.html, and their delivery cost covers two pallets, €39 I think. However on increasing the order to three pallet loads, delivery was free. So three pallets delivered €599.86

With oil so cheap, will wood prices fall? People only using oil as main heat source?

Actually, it seems like delivery charge is depending on location, as it's coming up as €20.00 delivery for me, so €219.99, better value again.
