You'd have to say Warburton is the only specialist No7 in the squad in the southern hemisphere sense of it anyway. Even though he is playing 6, I think his steals at the breakdown are the reason he is in the side. Seanie needs help with that and Warburton is the only man for the job. Just have to hope he can actually come up with the goods at least a couple of times in the game. It was really amazing the lack of turnover ball for the lions in the first test with so many good players. But maybe at this level you have to have specialists. Pity Best bottled so many lineouts he lost the faith of the coaches as he's another number 7 in the loose. Actually I would have thought after last week Gatland might have overlooked his throwing to compete better at the breakdown.

It's not just Gatland picking the team and other than Howley the other coaches aren't Welsh. I'd say Rowntree has a fairly big say over the front row and Borthwick would have a big influence over the second row. Gatland may have the very final say in a dispute but I'd imagine they'd all have to be happy with the selection before a final decision is reached.
Huge fan of Borthwick as a player and a coach and you've got to admit he knows a bit about second row play.

So Sam Warburton is calling for bravery in tomorrows test....it's such a pity that nobody showed any last week eh?

Wow. Warburton is a grade A scumbag.

To paraphrase "That was nice of Peter to come up and shake my hand BUT THEY ALWAYS DO THAT"

Gatland and his Welsh cronies are a cancer on this sport.

Lets never forget the hilarity of how far people are reaching to bitch about Warburton!

Not bitching, but I think it shows a little naivety on his part.

How long will Sexton last tomorrow against the AB's? Reckon he will be target No1 from the off

The out half is generally target no1 so nothing new there.

However id suggest that Murray is actually a bigger threat to them in that he's had and shoulders better than his replacement.

What we gain in bravery, we lose in pashun and steely- eyed stares so net effect is zero.

It was a careless remark that belittled the efforts of the 23 last week....but Big Sam I am is back, so all's well. If he feels he needs to puff his chest out...so be it...I'm quite happy to see less Munster players on the test side

It was no such thing....quite the opposite imo.

So many sensitive souls here. Why are you taking the lions so seriously?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Saying that he needs to be brave in absolutely no way whatsoever means any team he has been involved with in the history of the universe were not brave. It's flawed logic.

Just like saying "we need to make our tackles this week" doesn't mean they didn't make them last week or any week before.

This can be broken down further if necessary.

Maybe he's right. The forwards got the ****e beaten out of them last weekend.

If you take it as a standalone comment...and not in context, then yes, perhaps...but that's your flawed logic... anyway....work calls....

I'm boycotting the game tomorrow after Warburton called on the players to mimic American Indian Warriors. Braves were people too. #NoRacismOnTour

Also, I've a slightly receded hairline and I think AWJ is specifically goading my with his declining locks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

    with his declining locks.

He can only captain over the players Gatland put on the pitch for him.

Jeez, the lengths people go to knock poor Sam, he's being blamed for everything.

    Is it becoz he's Welsh?

It was the same cliched mundane stuff we hear all the time.

When he talks about being brave, he could mean take more gambles like the one Williams took which led to SoB try etc.

It wouldn't be careless remark if it was POM saying it.

Eh lads, I don't think Erik is being entirely serious here.

    Really??

    What makes you think that?

Like all Munster greats, he combines intense pashun and a love of divilment.

Disagree all you like Warburton hasnt been as good as POM, Tips, SOB, Toby, Stander etc etc.
His selection shows two things, that he will always pick Jones/Warbs his Welsh boys and that he doesnt have any sort of plan changing from Farrell/Teo/Davies to Sexton/Farrell/Davies a combination he hasnt played once from the start.
There is two pivots now in the team but our plan will still be kick it in the air and hope for the best.

Eh, except, y'know, last week. When he didn't.

    POM isn't tour Captain
POM has no reason to big himself up in the press
    POM's ego wasn't hurt
    POM has class.

    Here endeth the lesson

Grand. That doesn't change the fact that your posts scream dismay about POM being ditched.
