This Telegraph poll, on who would make the greatest 15 Lions team, might be of interest. Before you ask, Slattery, McBride, Woody and BOD. And yes, no Scots.

    Lions tour so far

Farrell kicking stats are 5 successful from 8 (63%)
    Halfpenny 11 from 11 (100%)

Think those stats speak for themselves dont you

its really 6 from 8, right? Not a great kick the one that was ruled out

One of those misses he was just on the pitch.

Stats speak for themselves when across many many games, but not 3 or four

Right, kicking for Ireland in the 6 nations, you might be expected to get 100% in a whitewash against Italy at home one year vs Italy on form at home themselves

Across a whole season, every team plays each other in the pro12 at home and away, you can look at stats there for sure, but if you play on a dominant team you will get better stats

If they were worried about Farrels kicking then Halfpenny would be at 15

Halfpenny is a good kicker, just not what he was 4 years ago, not Neil Jenkins reincarnate

Ok I will bite here. Why if you are in a dominant team would your stats be better, you may get a few conversions closer to the posts but that would be it. You also would get to kick more but if your not a great kicker then your % would be down.
Take these figures below, if your logic applied Farrell and Barrett played on most successful teams over that period so should have best stats, it doesnt work like that.

    Leigh Halfpenny:
    2016 Internationals and 2017 Six Nations - 41/48 (85.4%)

    Owen Farrell:
    2016 Internationals and 2017 Six Nations - 95/120 (79.2%)

    Johnny Sexton:
    2016 Internationals and 2017 Six Nations - 32/39 (82.1%)

    Beauden Barrett:
    2016 Super Rugby and Internationals - 133/191 (69.6%)

Barrett's kicking worries me. It fluctuates from game to game. When he's on form he slots them from every where but then when he's off he misses sitters. The ABs don't really have an alternative on the field either.

Then again kicking isn't really going to be a factor as the ABs will just run in lots of tries :D Ioane to get a hat trick.

3 or 4 games is plenty to make a judgement on a kicker's form. They're not striking the ball well or their confidence is a bit off when they step up.

And you can't discount the misses because one of them might have been a poor call (note, might). It was a simple kick and never should come down to that. If it clipped the post and went over, it would have been a poor kick that got lucky. As for one when he's just on the pitch, do we discount one on Saturday if there's obstruction at the kick off?

Farrell is normally a very good kicker and I reckon they've put their trust in him to deliver. But he's not kicking well on this tour. Aside from his conversion in the opening game, every kick of his has been handy yet he's still coming up with low numbers.

There's a reason Halfpenny is being kept in reserve despite offering next to no positional coverage from the bench relative to guys like Payne and Nowell.

Did I say that some kickers aren't better than others

    No

    Barretts kicking is bad

Look at http://goalkickers.co.za/# not sure how reliable it is, but its got some good stats and looks legit

2016 Rugby Championship, he missed all the hard kicks

Playing for NZ made him look better than he is, good news for Saturday

Now go to Farrel 2016 6 nations, look at the spread, how many dead easy kicks did he get 3 versus 20?

In fact 50% of Barrets kicks were certain kicks

His percentage playing for England would have been 25% at a guess, why because they scored so many tries under the posts

All I'm saying is stats are not as simple as you are making out

And being on a dominant team makes everyone look better, even the kicker

Barretts had a much easy time kicking vs say Steyn in 2016 but the stats would say he was a 65% kicker vs an 80% kicker when Steyn was living off scraps(getting beaten by Argentina etc), most of his misses were in his own half. If Barret had kicked for SA he would have been subbed off.

Perhaps he just scores tries instead

I was surprised that Alan Wyn Jones got picked but I'm absolutely astonished that .ak is from the north side. He must be an absolute pariah up there.

I wonder do sports direct do sandals.

There are all kinds of factors that go into gauging the difficulty of a kick, but I don't think anyone is saying that Barrett is a better goalkicker than Farrell.

Barrett isn't a test level goal kicker but it's a complete fallacy to think that NZ score so many tries under the posts.

They score a hat load of their tries out wide. If they manage to get around the last defender to run it back under the posts, so be it, but I'd say well over half of their tries are dotted down outside the two 15m lines.

All of their RC tries are there on YouTube, a large proportion of them are tricky conversions.

What we need here is more stats

They score a hat load of tries full stop, some out wide, a load in the middle, when you score 9 tries against South Africa in Durban in a 15-57 whitewash you aren't squeezing them all in at the corner

The video speak a thousand words, you can be well sure number 10 is going to run it in under the posts
