Quote from Ciara Mageean's FB page

"I write this post bitterly disappointed tonight. I am sorry I could not give you all an Irish finalist in the 1500m.
I cannot say how thankful I am for all the support I have been given this summer. Messages from the length and breadth of Ireland and further afield has lifted me this entire season. Seeing flags and posters in Portaferry and all the kind messages from everyone. Thank you so much truly from the bottom of my heart.
I am sorry I didn't deliver tonight. I will make one promise. This is the beginning, this season is only the start. I will be back and I will be stronger. My dream is to be on a podium, watch the Tri colour rise and Amhrán na bhFiann echo through the stadium. I will work tirelessly until I achieve this, that is my promise."

    :(

A slightly more upbeat post from Finn Lynch's FB
So my Olympic journey has come to end.. I had a great first half of the regatta staying in the top 25 but in the end the big waves in Rio got the better of me. I finished 32nd.
I've had a blast the last few weeks here in Rio and it's awesome to see all the support back home for me and the rest of team IRL.
It's a great time for Irish sailing now with Annalise's race for redemption today and lots of great youth results this summer.
Seeing my training partner Tonci Stipanovič have a silver medal before the medal race and a huge chance to win gold today along with Annalise kicking ass this week has given me lots of motivation for the next four years. I'm the youngest this time around and in Tokyo I want to be the best.
Thank you to everyone who helped me make my dream come true of competing in the Olympics. My coaches, training partners, my amazing family and of course all my friends who support me always - I couldn't have been here without you.
    GOODLUCK to Annalise today. ‪#‎pulllikeadog‬ ‪#‎redemption‬ ‪#‎teamirl‬

In fairness he never expected to get to Rio, qualified at the last minute, went out with absolutely no expectations on his shoulders, and seems to have made the most of it.

    Well done!

They were launched a while ago, they're on an outside course so likely more wind out there.

Radials will be racing at the earliest 6.15pm last I heard. I'm not even sure they've launched yet.

They lose the light about five local time

Apparently if they don't race today and don't race tomorrow they'll just give her the bronze based on her current position. That's probably an unlikely outcome though.

They'd need to call it either way in the next hour in that case.

    AP now till 6.45pm

I think someone said about 4/4.30 is the latest for a launch - so 8pm-ish our time. The race course is very close to shore and it's a 30-minute race so that would give them enough time providing the wind plays ball and doesn't dick around the place.

RTE pundits said that as well.

Not showing on windguru though, max 9/10kts for tomorrow.

    However - forecasts, shmorecasts.

In that case I think they should just call it for today, and we can all reconvene this time tomorrow!

Wonder might they finish the 49era and send the radials out on that course?

Doubt it very much. That'll be a different race committee, and they have the medal races set up to be spectatable (is that a word?) from shore.

In any case the skiffs will be due 3 races today, which they'll be lucky to get in as they were AP'd as well for a while.

Although they seem to be running two-lap W/L course which is as short as they get, so they must be trying to squeeze three races in.

They made up huge ground on the first downwind leg, so I'm hoping they can do the same on this one to the finish.
