127 doubled is 254. So he can drop off a further 46 seconds before the 5min mark.
It's not like he blasts the first 400m at 46 pace then tries to hang on for 3 more laps. Although I think some people are assuming that.

I think you said you run the 400m. How do you drop off to 800m and beyond?

46 isn't a lot of wiggle room over 2 laps when he has already lost 35 on one lap.

    Right now Usain is 19.7 - 46 - 2:07

So his 400 is 2.34 times his 200.
    His 800 is 2.76 times his 400.

To answer your question, when I was a 400 runner I was:

    25.4 - 54.8 - 2:15 - 4:52 for 1500 in decathlon (equates to 5:15)

So my 400 is 2.16 times the 200.
    800 is 2.46 times the 400.
Mile is 2.33 times the 800.

His drop offs will naturally be worse than a 400 runner who does a lot more endurance work.

Bolt needs his mile to be 2.35 times his 800 which is not happening if his 800 is 2.76 times his 400.

My drop off from 400-800 is significant enough but for him to have a similar drop off he needs a 1:53 off 46.

It's not rocket science. 2:07 off a 46 doesn't exactly show he has the endurance for a mile. Sure 46 off sub 20 is a big drop off as it is.

He'd probably run 800 quicker than that in a race, but it's equally likely he might have run slower than 2:07 as he didn't seem certain about his time in that interview and had to think what it was. 2:07 is all we have to go on though.

Right now that's true for 200m but the 400m time is years ago and who knows when the 800 time is from. If he hasn't trained at these distances then his times would be slower now.

Again it come back to whether he trains specifically or not for any distance. If he gave a couple of months at mile specific training then I'm sure he'd break 5. If he did it today I doubt it very much.
