one of my point why it should be apply to cyclists is because if a cyclist is on the left and a car is turning left, if the cyclist is going faster, they are going to undertake the car.A lot of the time they are going to be in the blindspot of the driver. its going to cause more accidents.

This scenario is already covered in the traffic regulations. There is no general "right" to overtake.

If a cyclist is overtaking on the left they may only do so lawfully if the vehicle in front is not indicating an intention to turn left.

And to answer the reaction time question , 230ms, but i dont see how that has to do with speed limits...reaction time is the same
it's a simple relationship between reaction time and the speed you're travelling, which determines how far the car travels before you can get to the brakes.

in your case, the car would have travelled 3.2m (at 50km/h) before you clicked the mouse.

and don't forget you were sitting waiting for something you knew was coming in the next few seconds. so translate that to a scenario where you're not on edge, and allow for the extra distance your foot has to travel (rather than a finger already sitting on the mouse button) and you can see why it's relevant. you'd probably travel several car lengths before even applying the brakes.

Who here has actually driven through town?

People think this is only going to effect town,

Have a look at the purposed map of dublin for 30km
Try and drive from crumlin to rahney at 30km

This is just madness? Can nobody else see it???

You didn't fall for Conor Faughnan's spinning, did you?

Well that article suggests that the map is wrong although the red part showing the existing 30km limit is a "blanket ban" even on arterial route like the quays. Why would it be different in the proposed parts?

There are maps on the consultation page:

    https://consultation.dublincity.ie/traffic-and-transport/proposed-special-speed-byelaws-submission/consult_view

While the map of the current area is high resolution and clear enough, the map of the proposal area is not all that clear as the resolution is a bit low. Having said that if you look carefully, you can see that the arteries apart from the quays are a different colour to the surrounding areas. Though the map legend doesn't indicate what that colour means.

The schedule lists the roads the 30 limit will apply to and those it wont.
It won't apply to arterial routes.

Any idea how the suburbs to be tackled are picked? Sandymount, Crumlin and Drimnagh are targeted on the southside.

eenie meenie miney mo by the looks of it. :D

The by-laws call the 30km a "Special" speed limit but soon they can call it the standard speed limit.

Cyclist is going faster than cars happens in places across the city at rush hour and other times... Maybe motorists crossing over cycle lanes just need to watch out?

That's just not the case -- it's been widely reported or more so miss reported that it would cover all/most roads in the city.

It mainly only affects main routes.

    Why exactly is it madness?

95% or more of the direct route between Crumlin and Rahney will remain at 50km/h or above. You know the 30km/h limit will not affect many routes?

But right now -- without the speed limit change -- Google Maps suggests using the M50 to get between Crumlin and Rahney. It suggests the M50 route is 6 minutes faster!

Sections of the quays with 30km/h have some of the highest pedestrian activity in the country.

The original scheme was reduced to reflect this more. It went further west to start with -- and I think it was a good move, a good compermise.

Any idea how the suburbs to be tackled are picked? Sandymount, Crumlin and Drimnagh are targeted on the southside.

The council said the areas were partly chosen from requests from residents... I've looked in detail at the streets covered and many include speed ramps etc -- all of which have had to have support for resident's. So, that would fit well with residents looking for speed controls.
