Also, I've found the best way to get proper support (without having to pay for the premium number) is to post on their forum on here.

That service is 120 megaBITS (Mb). The speed test is in megaBYTES(MB). There are 8 bits in a byte. Therefore, you should expect to see ~15MB (120/8)... Apologies if that sounds condescending, but a possible explanation for what you're seeing.

That has the impressive combination of being polite and respectful and yet still making me feel stupid.

    Well played, you b*stard.

Virgin Media are utter sh*te. Utterly awful. There has been a significant drop off in the quality of service since they took over UPC (who weren't exactly perfect but at least provided an acceptable level of service).

I've 120MB broadband with them. I'd say the most I've ever had on a speed test is 20MB. It regularly reads at around 10-12MB. I've had issues streaming Sky Go with the poor speed they provide. Their customer service is horrendous. They will only provide support between 9am and 5pm, Monday - Friday i.e. when you're not at home and, if you call from work, they'll ask you to contact them when at your actual router/set top box.

We're currently waiting on a house renovation to start so can't change provider and get tied into a new deal but, as soon as it's done, I'll be gone from them in a heartbeat.

Customer Service is Mon-Fri but Tech Support is Mon-Sun 9am to 9pm.

Spent 45+ mins on the phone with them between talking to Tech Support over a few issues and they finally said theyd have to send an Engineer out (we ended up having to cancel the appointment and got no acknowledgement) and then Loyalty trying to get the 6 month half price deals I see people on Bargain Alerts getting and "all they could do" was reduce the price of multi-room and home phone for 12 months, which is basically putting me on one of the current bundles. Quality went off a cliff when they moved support to Manilla but its gone to deep deep sea since Virgin took over.

I have no problems with Virgin's internet but their TV is a pile of bollocks. The Horizon box is complete rubbish.

    I'll 2nd that.
Got rid of my horizon box after a week of having it and got my old box back. Very user unfriendly and the wifi range is brutal.

I demanded a separate router as the Wifi on the Horizon box kept freezing and you'd have to switch the whole thing off and back on, which wrecked anything you were recording/watching at the time. Such a stupid idea to put all 3 services in one box

14 hour outage by Virgin Media yesterday. No phone, broadband or TV. Had to talk to the wife which was shocking :pac:

Apparently it affected huge parts of South West Dublin

    Why, what did you say?

Did they just give you that or did they charge or what?

I have a seperate router, but still have the horizon thing for TV.

    It is RUBBISH. Unbelievably slow.

Yeah when dealing with any of these service providers do it here or other online forums where it can be seen. You get far better service that way. I've Eir for broadband which is actually pretty decent now that it's up and running, but my God it was hell getting it set up (new build estate). Have Sky for TV though. At least with Eir I've gotten Eir and BT Sports for free meaning I can catch a load of added rugby.

Gave it. Tell them you're getting very poor WiFi signal from the Horizon box and you want a separate router

    Tell them Synode sent you.

If you're coming from the north to malahide via train I assume the only option is coming in to Connolly and then getting a dart back out again?

    Could they change at Dundalk?

Depending on timetable, it could be much handier to change at Drogheda. A number of commuter trains stop at Malahide.

The Irishrail site says to change at either Dundalk or Drogheda, depending on the time the Belfast train leaves. Just double check the layover time before deciding.

The rugby equivalent would be Italy getting into the 6 Nations or Argentina getting into the Rugby Championship.

I know zero about cricket. I know this is good but how?

The main positives include (and are not limited to) us now being able to play in test matches, which generate a lot of money, and having access to greater levels of funding for facilities, grounds, wages and so forth.

Having test status will also make it a lot harder for England to poach our best players, as this was a major bargaining chip for them.

Is now an appropriate time to suggest that test cricket is a dying concept and the future of the game lies in the reduced versions?

Today's decision by the ICC recognises many lifetimes of work by people involved in the sport in this country, and there appears to be nothing but unanimous joy being expressed in all circles. Whatever becomes of test cricket in the future doesn't matter, Ireland are now a test cricketing nation. That may not matter to many, but it dearly matters to all in the sport.

ooh Buer, I think the answer to your question is no!

ooh Buer, I think the answer to your question is no!

A simple no would have sufficed! :pac:

I was being quite bit tongue in cheek. It's a great achievement and it means a huge boost to the game in terms of publicity and a vast amount more funding to be made available to the governing bodies here.

It opens doors to Irish cricket which will have a big knock on impact into the reduced over game. It's much more to do with what it represents and the step forward within the game.

In terms of actually now getting to play test cricket? I believe that's completely secondary. Test cricket is on the wane and dying in Asia already. In the coming years I expect to see 20 over cricket leagues gradually become the dominant domestic game and become more established at international level also.

Need a bit of advice. I'm thinking of having my stag in Belfast.

Not sure on the lay of the land in the city anymore, since it's 10 years since I spent much time there and then it was mostly in venues that ran punk gigs. Most of these are closed, so not really an option. Pubs for earlier in the night would be along the lines of Kelly's Cellars, but after that I've zero idea of where to finish the night off.

    Any suggestions/recommendations/"don't do it, you're mad"s welcome.

The Dirty Onion is also good. Filthy McNastys is alright on the Dublin road. Laverys is great if you like playing pool.

Nice one! Will hopefully get to Ravenhill for a match too.

What's the story with late night drinking? I keep hearing people bitching about it, but not sure on the actual details. TELL me places do actually stay open beyond 1AM.
