While we're on the subject ... anyone tried Pokémon Go yet?

    I haven't because I'm almost 42 and I don't know what a Pokemon Go is.

I haven't played a pokemon game since I was about 12 but it's actually fairly common for people in their mid 20s to be into pokemon these days. At the end of the day what differentiates it from any other computer or console game which tons of people play on a daily basis?

Gave it a lash to see what the fuss is all about. Interesting idea but fairly unpolished. Too bad it is free to play.

I kind of get the whole Pokemon thing, even though I've no interest myself.

But I draw the line at Bronies. Please say there's none in here

Yea, was trying it when I was out walking the dog last night and there wasn't much, came into Dublin CIty Center for work this morning and the loads.

Ah here!!!!! Theres a gaping chasm between reliving your youth a bit with a Pokemon game and being a Bronie.

I'd say there are a few gaping chasms with that crowd alright.

    WTF is a brony?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

I have no idea what a Brony is, nor do I care. I'm also a bit too old for the Pokemon thing. But surely reliving your youth with a bit of Pokemon would be like me reliving my youth by playing with my MASK toys during my 20s? Pretty sure that would be viewed as being a bit weird, no?

*For the record I did not at any stage play with my MASK toys beyond my childhood. I really feel the need to state that unequivocally.

Meh. Part of my bonus this year in work was an amazon voucher and I used it to buy a 20th anniversary pokemon gameboy (or Nintendo 3DS as they're known to the kids these days). Savage little yoke. I even play it on the tube to work in the morning, like a big weirdo. It's fun to relive your childhood, and it's harming nobody.

I actually haven't looked at pokemon in years and years but I did revisit it a while ago and it held my attention for a while, they were actually good games (at least the original ones that I played, never tried the newer ones). Some people think all video games are inherently childish, which is a different matter I suppose.

Well I wouldn't fall into the latter category at all, and given that I know nothing about Pokemon whatsoever I suppose I can't comment. If it stands up well then fair enough I suppose.

As far as video games go I'd find grown ups playing those army war games slightly more off putting than someone playing Pokemon or Sonic for a bit of fun. Never got the appeal of those Call of Duty type games.

I loved Call of Duty for the first few years. But with each new release it just felt the same thing over and over.

The last game I bought was Grand Theft Auto 5. Played it constantly for about 3 months then had to abandon it as I was doing nothing else. I haven't played it online once as I know it would hook me in and I'd lose too many weeks/months

I remember playing one of the GTA games non stop for a couple of weeks and then found when I was out in the car in real life I'd be looking at what was coming in the opposite direction thinking "that's a better car, I'll hijack it"

Grand Theft Auto 5 was excellent. I didn't own a console that could play it but I bought one, bought that game, played it, never looked at the console again and it was still worth it!

Ha I was the same. My old XBox 360 got the RROD a couple of weeks before it was released. Went out and bought a new one and only ever used it for that game (though I did use it for Netflix for a bit). Worth every penny

In "fake sport" MMA news, man you have to feel sorry for Daniel Cormier. Spending all that time getting ready for such a huge event only to have it pulled out from under his feet at the last moment because his opponent tests positive. Glad to hear he has an alternative opponent lined up (and a big name as well) but his head must be absolutely wrecked

I never really bothered with fight sports before. Then McGregor came along and now I watch a lot of MMA stuff and have started watching boxing too.

He seemed pretty down but they, surprisingly, seemed confident they'd get him someone to fight which is amazing considering how how close it is to the fight!

They have Anderson Silva announced now as the replacement. He used to be the biggest name in the sport because of his exciting fighting style and his domination of the middleweight division for 5 years or so. He's old now and he himself was done for steroids a few years back. I would say Cormier would easilly beat him except it's hard to know what kind of mental state Cormier is in after the late change of opponent.
