We got a credit card a few years back, not because we wanted one, but it was needed to book holidays online, rent a car etc. Outside of this we rarely use it, we bring it on holiday's in case debit cards aren't accepted, or an unforseen emergency. A mastercard took me out of a hole, quite literally, when I missed a flight due to ridiculous security screening wait times and had to buy another flight the following day. Hadnt a cent and had no other cards on me. Just handy to be sure of having access to funds no matter where you are.
It's set to debit 50% every month and I only use it for big ticket items which I usually pay back in full myself anyway.
