hi folks,i have a 455 cz .22lr, scope is hawke 4-16x44, BKL 1" mounts,today i took off the scope as i thought the cross hairs were a bit lob sided,i know i could have just loosened the top screws and twisted,but i took the scope out to give it a wipe down,i was very gentle,any how put it back on the mounts,screwed the two top bits back on,and everything looked fine,until i went to local sand pit for a few plinks,now it was bang on before i took the scope off,first 3 shots were off by 3" to left,and high,so after a few adjustments,got it bang on again,so question is,how come it was off so much

You've moved the scope simple as that, you won't have set it back down exactly as it was in the rings. Any movement of a scope will cause it.

thanks,but should it have been off so much?took alot of clicks to get it on again,never thought just by doing what i did,it would be that much out,wont take it off again.

As said above if you did not mark the scope (where it sat in the rings) and did not use a torque wrench to get the exact same torquing when remounting then all scopes will be off once you remove/move them.

Next time if you want to take the scope off try remove it with the rings attached. Might be off a little, but it's subtle to non existent.
