    Single Operator Capping Levels:

    Dublin Bus:
    Daily - Adult €6.90 / Student €5.00 / Child €2.50
    Weekly (Monday-Sunday) - Adult €27.50 / Student €20.00 / Child €8.20

    Note:
Nitelink, Airlink, tours and special events are excluded from the cap.

    LUAS:
    Daily - Adult €6.40 / Student €5.00 / Child €2.50
    Weekly (Monday-Sunday) - Adult €23.50 / Student €18.00 / Child €8.20

    Daily - Adult €9.20 / Student €6.90 / Child €3.10
    Weekly (Monday-Sunday) - Adult €35.50 / Student €27.00 / Child €12.00

The capping day rolls over at 04:30.

    Multi-Operator Capping Levels:

Dublin Bus / LUAS / Irish Rail (Short Hop Zone):
    Daily - Adult €10.00 / Student €7.50 / Child €3.50
    Weekly (Monday-Sunday) - Adult €40.00 / Student €30.00 / Child €14.00

If you use one transport provider regularly and another irregularly during the day or week, the main transport operator’s cap will apply and other operator’s fares added separately until the multi-operator cap is reached.

    Note:
Dublin Bus Nitelink, Airlink, tours and special events are excluded from the cap.

More information on capping is available here.

    =============================================================================== ==========================

    LEAP 90 DISCOUNT

If you take two or more journeys on Dublin Bus within 90 minutes of starting the first trip, using the LEAP pay-as-you-go epurse, then a discount (as listed below) will automatically apply to the second and any subsequent trips taken within 90 minutes of the previous one.

    Discount Levels – Adult/Student €1 / Child €0.75 / City Centre Fare €0.60

Note that the discount does not apply to Airlink or Tour services.

Similarly, if you make a multi-mode journey using one of the combinations below within the Dublin Short Hop Zone, the discounts above will apply to the second and any subsequent trips, provided each individual trip starts within 90 minutes of the previous one.

    - Luas – Dublin Bus - Luas
    - Luas – DART/Commuter Rail - Dublin Bus
    - Luas – DART/Commuter Rail – Luas
    - DART/Commuter Rail – Dublin Bus – DART/Commuter Rail

Note that it does not apply to Luas to Luas journeys or DART/Commuter Rail to DART/Commuter Rail journeys as these trips already have specific discounted fares.

Note also, that each time you tag on a new 90 minute period will commence.

    =============================================================================== ==========================

    TOPPING UP LEAP CARD E-PURSE

The LEAP card e-purse can be topped up a number of different ways:

•At one of over 400 Payzone LEAP card agents around Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway.

    •At any LUAS ticket machine

•At any Irish Rail ticket machine in the Short Hop Zone

•Online at www.leapcard.ie - Note that this option requires you to subsequently visit your nominated "load location" to physically load the top-up amount onto the card. Note that online topups cannot be applied to your LEAP card via Dublin Bus or indeed other bus operator onboard ticket machines due to their memory constraints.

•Via Auto top-up - this is the easiest way of topping up the card. It automatically tops up your Leap Card with funds from your bank account, whenever your Travel Credit balance falls below €10. You can choose to Auto Top-Up by €30.00, €40.00 or €50.00. Note that this requires your card to be registered on the LEAP website and a direct debit to be set up.

•Via the LEAP Top-Up App for NFC enabled Android phones

•You can also use the LEAP card reader in the front window of Dublin Bus HQ, 59 Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin 1 to check your balance, collect online top-ups and to collect taxsaver ticket renewals.

•You can also use the LEAP card reader in the Bus Eireann bus station at Parnell Place in Cork to check your balance, collect online top-ups and to collect taxsaver ticket renewals.

    =============================================================================== ==========================

    SINGLE OPERATOR PERIOD PASSES:
The following unlimited travel period passes / tickets can be loaded onto a LEAP card, either online (requires you to then visit a payzone outlet) or at a payzone outlet directly:

    Note:
One person holding a LEAP card can pay for a companion on Dublin Bus using the epurse. This applies if the cardholder is using a period pass or the epurse for their own travel.

It's worth noting that the Leapcard holder can pay for any number of companions at the Leapcard rate,as long as sufficient credit exists on the Card.

There seems to be a woeful omission in the purchase points for the Leap Visitor Card, but people arrive in Dublin from abroad at the Ferry Terminal and at Connolly Station, but they have to go to the airport or O Connell St to buy their card - a bit silly methinks!

They've just updated the Android app to allow the possibility to store payment card details for top-ups and view the last 5 transactions.

Doesn't get rid of the &*^%$ Verified by Visa screen though

The verified by VISA prompt only pops up when you use a card registered for the first time within the app, thankfully. I've topped up once after I registered the card and it went straight through.

That's good to know. I usually take at least two attempts to get that damn thing right even sat behind a desktop PC in the comfort of my home, let alone on a phone while out and about. The sooner it dies a painful death the better.

When the OP/Leap site says the Nitelink is excluded from capping...how is it?

If you've already reached the cap, the Nitelink is €2.70 with Leap.

You have requested to enable auto top-up on this card, please wait till auto top-up is activated on your card

I only use the leap card infrequently as I dont live in Dublin. I tried to set up the card to auto topup and I have the error above when I go into the Manage Auto Topup Section. Any ideas what to do.

Your card needs to be updated. Can only do this by using the leap card at a ticket vending machine, Payzone shop or by touching on/off.

Might be able to use the new app on Android as well if your phone has NFC.

Thanks. Tried that. Topped up by 30 at a train station today. I can see the money on the card but the error is still there. Cheers

Is it planned to let you use travel credit on a leap card to pay for tickets on journeys starting outside the leap zone?
The station in Drogheda has a machine where you can put credit on a leapcard, but not pay for a ticket with credit already on the card.

No plans at the moment in the public domain - I'd imagine at some point it will happen though.

IE Point-to-Point period passes can be loaded on personalised Leap cards.

Period passes, incl DB, can be downloaded via the Leap Android App.

But that has nothing to do with using travel credit to pay-as-you-go for rail services outside the Short Hop zone which is what the question was about!

I was responding to the Thread and not the topic in question and mentioned these two functionalities that were not covered.

Leap Card can now be associated with your Dublin Bikes account, one less card needed in the wallet.

Just noticed a very strange "feature" of the Android Leap card app this morning. I had registered a credit card and PIN for my own card. Went to topup my son's card, and the PIN was rejected. Turns out it was looking for the PIN and credit card that was last used (and registered against) his Leap card, on a different phone. That was very surprising and unhelpful.

I presume what's happening is that the leap card is tied to a specific credit card. I think it makes more sense to tie a credit card (and PIN) to a particular phone, and then allow that phone and PIN to update any Leapcard. I don't see much benefit in tying a leapcard to one specific credit card.

Has there been any time indication given for the iOS app with functionality like the android version?

The timeline is whenever Apple decide that they will allow it.

How t'feck did I miss that until now. Another NFC card I can drop from my wallet to save "reader confusion". Ace.

Note that Leap cards can be topped up (and online topups collected) at Irish Rail ticket machines in Cork as well - certainly on the Cobh line, and presumably Midleton as well.

"It's worth noting that the Leapcard holder can pay for any number of companions at the Leapcard rate,as long as sufficient credit exists on the Card"

Can anyone tell me if the above applies to the Child (school child age 4 up) Leapcard on Dublin Bus? I have a Child Leapcard for my daughter but hope to take 2 other children along over the Easter break. Can I tag 3 children on on the one card?

    TIA

Yes...you can use either your daughter's card,or your own,to get Companion Leap fares for the others.
It will be slightly faster on the Child card,as the Driver will not have to switch from Adult to Child mode on the Ticket Machine.

Yes, on any Leap Card enabled bus (not tram or train). Just make sure there is enough credit for there and back.

    Under 4s are free.

I'm visiting home (Dublin) with my missus and son (turned 4 in March) and wondering can I get a single Leap card and use the e-purse for all three of us on Bus, tram and rail in Dublin region or can I only buy companion tickets on DB?

We have access to a car so won't be buying any weekly tickets etc. just for the odd trip into town or on the DART it would be handy.

Companion tickets are bus only, as the other services are tag-on, tag-off.

There are a variety of family tickets you can look at.

Note that the capping on Leap Card only works for the user - companion tickets won't contribute to the cap.

There is also a Victor Leap Card.

I have a leap card. Have to go home from work tomorrow evening on the bus and back in Saturday and home Saturday evening.

If I get a bus home from Dublin tomorrow evening at 5:15, does the 24 hour ticket cover me on the way home at 5:15 on Saturday ? If the bus Saturday is late by a couple of minutes will I have to buy a ticket of the bus driver ?

This is a Bus Eireann 24 hour ticket I take it?

It is valid for 24 hours from the time you validate it first - if you validate your last journey just before the 24 hours are up then it is still valid for that entire journey, but it will not cover buses showing up after the 24 period is up I'm afraid.

Load location - Leap Top-Up App
    Top-Up Travel Credit ? 10.00
    Total ? 10.00
    Total ? 10.00
    Important Notes:
? Top Up Travel Credit and/or Travel Tickets purchased before 10pm is normally available for collection by 8am the following day.

Previously I've paid in app, this time I used the site for convenience. Do I now have to wait to load the card with the app? Surely not...

Yes. The site has no way of contacting the card so the App needs to be used to download the top-up since that is the method selected. If you use the App for the top-up, the app can update the card immediately.

Thats the thing, the site has it pending collection but the app is totally unaware. The dialogue suggests the API that the app checks wont have it until tomorrow.

On-line orders with App delivery are probably bundled with the ticket machine/validators/barriers overnight updates.

Why didn't you just use the app to purchase? I don't get how using the site is considered convenient in any way.

Primarily because my debit is stored there and I was already booking tickets etc on the desktop.

You can save payment details on the app too.

Really don't trust the TII devs to not store them in plaintext tbh.

Needless scaremongering. You create a pin, and it'll only be used with any leap cards the payment details have been related to.

If I put my mother's card up to my phone, I'd have to go through the full process all over again.

Merchants aren't allowed accept or store card details without being compliant. Their acquiring bank will insist on an external PCI-DSS audit. One of the fairly obvious things that is checked during the audit is that card details are properly and securely encrypted and that CVVs are not stored.

TII don't store the card details at all. They outsource their card acceptance and tokenisation to Payzone.

Yet again,we have one of the most positive elements of Leap Card being somewhat ignored...Busdrivers will spend the fortnight still issuing Child Cash fares to chizzzlers who apparently don't read newspapers, take notice of adverts, listen to radio, check apps...etc....The list is endless.

The Free Fare Fortnight is available to ALL Child Leap Card holders...even the 6' 4" deep voiced, bearded ones...USE it or LOSE it !

It's a bit earlier this year, but hey...FREE STUFF...No hidden catches...except that you MUST have a Child Leap Card with at least 1c Credit on it....

No Child Leap Card = Money out of your Pocket !

The correct link is here: https://about.leapcard.ie/kids-go-free

It is for the period 3-16 July - that's over a week away.

Plenty of time to publicise it yet!
