Sounds to me like Dana wasn't really interested in this rematch anyway and was forced into it by Conor originally.

It hasn't really got everyone excited for UFC200 and probably isn't worthy of headlining it.

He took the 1st opportunity to pull it.

2 arguments I haven't been able to get my head around since the Tweet reappeared:

    1) the I can't believe you guys think this is real posts. There was always a chance this was legit. Posts of the nature of I can't believe you think this is fake would have been equally ridiculous. We had no story to work off and only a cryptic tweet. Draw conclusions all we like but it's silly to place too much weight on them without supporting evidence
    2) The Conor doesn't want to fight Diaz again arguments. If he'd given Aldo his rematch (a fight he won in 13 seconds so is probably reasonably confident about winning again) nobody would have batted an eyelid. Would have been perfectly suitable for a UFC 200 headliner and the bookies had him as favourite to win. He wanted to fight Diaz and there's little to suggest he would change his mind on that.

I can't help but feel it's UFC who lose out more than McGregor here unless they're able to reconcile the situation. Every McGregor fight they lose here is a fairly big rake of PPV income out the window. McGregor is losing out on money here too but a) he's a human being with insane amounts of wealth already, rather than a company with a need to constantly increase their profits and b) McGregor may well be able to earn more money elsewhere anyway.

So has anyone been active on social media today? JK? Conor? his butler that Artem fella?

What is the big deal with doing some promotion in April for a July fight?
Apparently it was another media tour, not sure how long it was to go for or when.
It seems to me Conor was looking for a way out of facing Diaz again. If Conor refused to go to Vegas and Dana said we will have to pull the fight and Conor still stuck to his guns he looks really bad in all this.

the order of how it escalated makes a huge difference there. We'll probably never know

Chael P is claiming its contract ploy by Conor to get more money, he claims bill boards are up already for this fight...so Conor thought he could re negotiate but Danas not bending over this time

    Hi guys,
I very rarely post here and tend to lurk more then anything but I felt this news was worth sharing.
My partner is related to someone heavily involved in the WWE (i'll give you a hint, he's from Cabra.)
Apparently he received a call yesterday from a very senior exec in the WWE regarding a conversation that was had with an Irish UFC star,
The reason he was informed was to discuss his experience with the organization to seth UFC star and potentially influence a more serious discussion later this week.
I've no reason to make this up and to be honest I don't care who believes me and who doesn't but this story is true.

Thats really weird, i had heard the very same thing late this morning.

I thought this run to the USA was to do the official pictures for the promo? At least that's what I've heard, it was that and a few interviews.

Bad times for UFC. Firstly the recent tragedy in Dublin and now McG randomly letting his fans and the UFC organisation down big time.

Is it not a bit odd he's training in Iceland in the first place, surly the facilities are not any better than more convenient locations for press conferences etc he knew he would have to do?

WWE, film, TV. He's a charismatic man with a proven ability to draw money and interest based on his mouth (very good fighter but not the pound for pound best in UFC) so no reason that couldn't translate elsewhere.

This is a man who had already become a megastar before he fought anyone elite.

    Whats your definition of megastar?

    Whats your definition of megastar?

Someone who can draw millions from their presence alone I guess. Difficult term to give a clear definition for.

Can't really agree here. Charisma for me is not Conor. Far too manufactured and forced. Hyped is a better word. He has been hyped for quite a while now. But fair play to him for making as much money as possible and getting out. He is involved in a very danagerous activity.

I usually like Kavanagh on the MMA hour or being interviewed but he seems like a massive bell-end on social media.

I personally think the term megastar is a vast overreaction, he was a big deal in the Ufc and locally but megastar is getting a bit excited.

Wow I left this thread about 8pm last night on page 116....I've just came online and its 46 pages later lol too much to even attempt to trawl through.

So quick updates please folks? Nothing seems any the clearer from the few bits I've seen but did Dana really appear on tv confirming he was off UFC200? I still maintain he's not retired(which could be v.ignorant considering I've not kept upto date lol)

Yeah you've not missed anything. Confirmed not fighting at UFC 200 and no word about the retirement.

We're all just sitting here making mostly baseless conjecture about it.

Don't worry you aren't missing much.
I just wasted about 40 minutes reading through 90% tripe.

Yep off UFC 200 and that's about all we know for sure so far.

Dana said the UFC pulled him from 200 because he wouldn't attend the press conference in Vegas at the weekend. There had been a big photo shoot booked and a mini press tour. Conor said he didn't want to disrupt his camp and that he was in Iceland.

Much more going on then that though, we just don't know the facts yet.

He was able to go on mainstream TV chat shows like Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel and entertain the audience though and have them laughing and cheering for him. I'd say there's virtually nobody else in the UFC who could manage the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,206 ✭✭✭Lucas Hood

Ufc could probably block him from doing other work for the length of his contract.
He may well be able to retire once he does that but try doing work for other people may cause him problems.

Whut?.. there crew members with large signs prompting the audience to cheer and laugh on these chat shows.
