If he insists on a revenge fight against Diaz, that's much more suited to main event 199 or 201. If he gets top billing at 200 for a non-title fight, they might as well plaster his face over the UFC logo.

McGregor used to take the piss out of Aldo and how he didn't defend the belt that often.

Falling into his own trap here. Its also very risky to go after Diaz again, a double loss on the bounce would be quite bad for him.

Yeah it seems incredibly risky - if he loses to Diaz I think he is 100% finished at that weight.

I'd rather see him fight Dos Anjos.

To be honest he shoulnt bother with 170 in my eyes. He can make 145 and 155, 170 doesn't really require a cut so I don't see an advantage for him like he gets at the lower weights.

Granted his first round against Diaz was good and he landed well with the strikes, but with a full camp behind him I could see Diaz being far more acute to the strikes. He isn't as good with his hands as his bother, but he is no slouch either. He also has massive reach over him.

Both fighters will be totally different this time around (if the fight is indeed confirmed), I still think at that weight the advantage is for Diaz time and time again.

Some of the matches made recently are utterly awful and make zero sense. I think any one of us on this forum could do a better job.

Forget about the coke it looks like the steak rumours were true if he's fighting again at 170.

    This is really silly.

I can see some logic in it if it's at 155. Maybe McGregor genuinely can't make 145 anymore but can't walk into the LW title fight anymore so this would serve as a title eliminator. But if this fight happens at any weight, then he MUST give up the belt. It's a joke if he doesn't.

Frankie is getting ****ed by the ufc but one part of me is laughing waiting the imminent response of his fraud manager fuming that hes not making a bean with rda and frankie missing the chance of a big money fight.

I really wish Conor was taking this one at 155, though I do think he can beat Diaz at 170.

If he treats it as a boxing match as opposed to swinging for the fences, I think he could certainly out-point Nate.

Agree completely. If he fights smart he can win. There's a reason Diaz has so many losses. There's a way to beat him. It's a frustrating matchup though. It's makes sense money wise. This will sell better than a frankie or aldo fight. But he really should be defending the belt if he's not fighting for the 155 title.

Problem is though, there is game plans to beat Nate, but Conor doesnt have the tools or his ego wont allow it,

He knows Conor wont shoot, rorymac dumped him on his head,he wont wont wrestle at all so nate doesnt have to train any wrestling for this,

Wont point fight, his ego wont allow him,rda lit nates leg on fire then spammed take downs and smashed from guard,

He literally has to win a boxing match against Nate, hes proved he cant in the first fight so what changes?

Lads come over to the dark side here. I've sold my soul to Dana and I encourage you to do the same. Embrace the madness. Trust me you won't regret it.

Stop concerning yerselves with titles and title fights. That just ain't what it's about anymore. The person who holds the belt doesn't matter, it's all about who can bring the numbers.

Jose and Frankie need to up their trash talking game if they want a bite of the cherry. Being good just isn't good enough in the modern game. Bring on McGregor/Diaz 2 (and 3 if needs be). McGregor, Round 3, TKO win.

I think Conor would have had some luck there if he targeted Diaz's leg as RDA had huge success there and practically neutralized Diaz. That fight was very one sided once Diaz's leg was taken out.

Saying that, I think Diaz would beat Conor again especially with a full camp.

You're right but everything about the post saddens me. I know it's a business and its all about the money but people like frankie shouldn't need to trash talk. He has several consecutive wins. He has earned the right to fight for the title.

I couldn't agree more with you but it's what the UFC has become. FWIW. I can see Frankie getting a shot within the next 6 months bit I doubt it will be against McGregor.

Just turning up for the fight would suffice......can Aldo in particular be relied on for this?

Has to be Frankie v Aldo for the belt right? If Conor is fighting at 170 for 200 then he has to vacate the belt surely. If he beats Nate at 170 I would think LW title shot next?

would it not make more sense i they both fought at 155? and the winner gets the title shot. I dont see how a catchweight or higher division mkaes sense.

If I wanted to see a load of bull**** i'd watch eastenders. We all know the trash talk isn't genuine.

This all revolves around money at this stage. The Diaz rematch probably means more money for McGregor\Dana.

It'll be too long to leave the Featherweight title idle so they'll probably have an interim fight with Aldo and Edgar.

Then McGregor has money in the bank from the Diaz fight, a huge pay day in the reunification fight at Featherweight and if he beats Diaz at 155 still has the option of the title shot in that division.

I don't think he or Dana gives much of a **** about anything but maximising the profit from Conors fights.

Plus Conor has the benefit of still being absolutely minted should he lose again to Diaz and lose the Featherweight belt. Worse case scenario he loses the next 3 fights and walks away with pretty damn close to his 100 mil nest egg.

Agreed, it's a bit farcial that the belts are being so downplayed, and two headliners in a row have nothing but bragging rights at stake.

But that said, I really want to see it too.

You'd have to think that Conor would want it at 155 and copy RDA's tactics. But as gamebred said, would he make the make the same mistake twice and try to KO the un KO'able for the sake of his own legend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭Letree

I think this is good way to maximize money for McGregor and the ufc. If Conor goes back down to 145 he really has to fight Frankie any thing else will look like ducking. And if he loses to frankie he is done as a cash cow. They can make a load of money out of Conor Diaz 2 then Conor can either fight Frankie at 145 or RDA at 155 if he beats Diaz. 170 is perplexing tho it makes more sense at 155.

All this talk about the UFC being up for sale makes me think the star attraction/money maker, aka McG, can do whatever he likes.

Embrace the madness. If he fights Nate again it will be seriously intense, who cares about belts, he already got it in 13 seconds!

I agree, I think it also has a lot to do with building a portfolio for potential buyers.

If they are talking to interested parties and you show the median PPV sales over the last 10 events, having Conor fight Nate twice is going to inflate it considerably. Especially when you consider they'd have a massive press tour this time and put much more money into promoting it.

The Diaz and McGregor fight penetrated the main stream massively, you had the likes of Kobe Bryant, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus talking to the media about both fighters. The UFC want more of this, anything that gets it more in the public eye is gonna raise the amount the Fertitta's can demand for a sale.
