It was well rumoured that GSP v Mcgregor was to take place at ufc 200 but Mcgregor losing to Diaz killed it. Sure wasnt GSP in attendance at ufc 196 to watch Mcgregor v Diaz.

Makes sense to have a legend like GSP fight the golden boy Mcgregor at ufc 205 New York as long as Conor is fit and healthy. The company's debut in New York so why not go huge

Anyone know the name of the guy he has training cardio with him? Looks like an interesting chap: cardio expert yet shows all the hallmarks of steroid & hgh use.

That ab-gut and the shadows are... interesting alright...

I'd take the GSP thing with a pinch of salt - today alone there has been 3 different claims over why he is appearing on UFC Tonight (tonight :P).

    1. Promoting Kickboxer 3 (he's in it)
    2. GSP v Conor announcement
    3. A Hollywood media agency said he's going to announce a whole different film.

I will say this though...... for the conspiracy theorists.....

Dana White has had an awful smug look on his face lately, insisting GSP was not returning to the Octagon, that "his heart isn't in it".

He also had the same smug look when denying the sale of the UFC and the return of Brock Lesnar.

FWIW, if Conor is to fight GSP it would more than likely be a catchweight of 160 or 165.

The fact Conor was back in cardio training on a bruised left leg - and to my knowledge hasn't left America yet - would be small clues to indicate he was staying around to tie up business on his next fight.

So the timing would make sense on this.

On another note, Conor is in hot water tonight for posting the picture of the t-shirt of Pablo Escobar. There's a lot of seriously unhappy Colombians going ape sh1t online, not to mention a number of journos. I highly doubt Conor has a clue what Escobar was really mixed up in (terrorism, mass murder, murder of kids etc) and probably just thought it was a cool t-shirt in the "El Chapo" mould......

But at some point he needs to stop giving people sticks to beat him with. Relax with the drug lord t-shirts and references. I would have thought being tied in even a small way to David Byrne and the Kinahan feud would have taught him to steer well clear of that nonsense.

Lads GSP is going to headline the Toronto show in December. He won't be fighting Conor. He's not in the USADA testing pool long enough for the NYC show.

There's no guarantee Conor is headlining MSG so it could be Conor (doubtful).

Conor is about the money. GSP in Toronto is bigger money than Eddie at MSG or Nate in Vegas.

We will find out this week anyway. They gotta announce the headliner for MSG pronto it's 11 weeks out now.

Can't see tbh. I think Conor would much rather the chance to become a 2 weight World Champion over a money fight against GSP, and besides, all of Conor's fight are big money fights at this stage.

There's money but then there's GSP v Conor money. That would break all records. Don't see it happening at 205 for several reasons.

I don't know if GSP will still be a big draw when he comes back. His last fight only did 600k at PPV and i'm living in Canada atm and not much hype about his return at all. I think Conor getting the chance to get two belts could do more tbh.

I could see him getting a basic $5 million against GSP plus PPV points (which, imo, would break 2 million if they stack the card).

That's the bones of $20 million.

Against Eddie, he's looking at between $8 and $12 million.

Fighting GSP would be almost a 2x fight payday.

Whether he'd win or be competitive would be another kettle of fish. Too many question marks over GSP on whether he retains the desire and hunger for it. Not to mention has the sport evolved to a level he couldn't evolve with in training.

It's all well and good saying that, but we have no idea how much Conor would get base, how much the UFC actually gives him (They get more then the disclosed pay) and how much he makes off PPV.

I think Conor's next fight breaks 2m regardless. He's HUGE over here.

    McGregor vs Alvarez @ 205 with a stacked undercard = 1.5M buys
GSP vs a monkey at 206 with the monkey's family on the undercard = 1.5M buys

Non McG stacked card at 205 = <1M buys
McGregor vs GSP at 206 (won't happen at 205 due to the USADA exemption) = 2M buys

Putting the 2 biggest available draws against each other at 205 doesn't make sense. It doesn't make more money across the 2 events. It makes no sense to any division. It most likely gets McG another loss which further damages his marketability at LW and kills the title shot that he just resuscitated by beating Diaz.

Plus McGregor said himself that he feels fat at 170. He gassed there twice, and that's against Diaz with his slappy boxing style. GSP grinding on him for 25 minutes would not be a good idea.

1.5 for GSP v anyone is very generous. I don't think he's as relevant as he was in his hay day, and if he fights Woodley it'll be lucky to do a million imo.

All of Canada will tune in for his return, plus a big US number.

I have no doubt he'd well past a million against Woodley.

I'm living in Canada and highly doubt they will. UFC isn't anywhere near as popular here now as it was then apparently and GSP's buyrate gradually got worse and worse as he fought, I think the excitement factor is gone. They didn't tune in for Rory.

I talked about this with a guy on Fight Club who was from Canada and he said that they never really warmed to Rory whereas GSP was a national treasure.

The same guy just signed up again for Fight Club to make sure he gets tickets for Toronto because he expects GSP on it.

My best friend lives in Winnipeg and he thinks that GSP's return will be huge too.

    Time will tell I suppose.

Yeah I know he was but I really don't think the UFC is as popular now as it was then. I think it'll be big too I just don't see it drawing huge numbers at PPV. I think around a million yeah but not 1.5, I think there numbers only McGregor or maybe Rousey's return would generate. Obviously the hype will start up when its announced. Hoping to get too 205 and 206 myself.

How hard do you think it's gonna be to get tickets? Even with FightClub, can see it being very difficult unless willing to pay top dollar.

Going to be a tough one. But I managed to secure tickets for UFC 100 and that was probably the most anticipated event ever.

Bottom 2 or 3 price points will be gone lightning fast.

Apparently Cowboy has a huge fight in the pipeline that he can't yet announce. Rogan was going crazy about it on his podcast, saying how amazing it's going to be. Possible GSP return fight?

    Looks like it's Lawler.

I look forward to one of these two fighters calling out Conor McGregor.

    Wow. Lawler would kill Cerrone.

Really? Lawler.had a hell of a chin, which may be done for now, id fancy cerrone if his striking is as crisp as the story fight.

Its amazing how little credit cerrone gets. He literally fights anyone at any time as many times as he can.

Little credit? He's one of the most popular fighters in the UFC.

With fans he is not so much with ufc imo. I actually meant his technical skills are under rated

. Although i think its less obvious cause he takes so many fights when waiting could benefit him. He should get alvarez next. He slapped him around in his first fight and although RDA beat him hes done enough to get back there.

No way should he get Alvarez next. Eddie should fight Khabib but is likely going to fight Conor. Cowboy's last fight at LW was a title shot that he lost in a minute. Winning 3 fights at WW hardly warrants a LW title shot.
