Great to see Manuel Montero back fit enough to make his super rugby debut this weekend away to the blues, los jaguares make nine changes for this game resting most of their senior players.

One of the commentators said that the last Highlanders try was the bonus point also. Other guy said, "eh, no". First guy starts listing the 4 tries. "they need to be 3 clear". *crickets*.... "I'll take your word for it".

Really enjoying the Crusaders v Lions match. The ball skills of both teams are outstanding. 20 minutes gone and its 19-10 to the Crusaders.

Kiwi teams tend to get a bit stupid with the facial hair when they go on tour.

The state of the pitch is disgraceful.

Lions can't tackle anything and crusaders are taking full advantage.

I know he's not very popular in Ireland but I love Ryan Crotty. He's no SBW or Nonu. He just does the basics, does his job and does it well. I'd have no issue with him being the ABs starting 12.

I'm enjoying this game so much that I don't know if I want to switch over to the Ulster v Connacht game.

Edit: I'm sticking with this game!

Jags doing well here, 6-0 up against the blues after 22 mins and they are a man up, should have pressed for a try there instead of the pen

And the blues had 5 mkns if sustained pressure and come away with the try after 14 phases

Blues ahead 8-6 and not really deserving of it

Edit....they derseved that try, a beaut of a catch from the fullback, TH had a couple of lovely spins in the tackle, pop pass from Ranger and West dives over for the try which he converts.
    Blues 15-6 up

Jags pull a pen back, trail 9-15

The Chiefs are something else. The last try was just amazing, the speed they move at and the passing ability across the field - so entertaining.

Cruden is excellent too, his kick for the previous try was perfect

It's a statement performance. Their only weakness is the scrum due to the season ending injury to nepo Laulala preseason and retsllick out at the moment.

Damian McKenzie is rugby porn. It's great to see an 80 kg 5 ft midget be so influential. Basically Shane Williams.

That smile he does when lining up his kicks is well weird, almost creepy! It must be a psychological thing.

Yeah, he mistook Leitch for an endangered Kauri tree, and hugged him real tight.

Actually, the incident was eerily similar to Jocelina Suta vs Richardt Strauss in the Champions Cup - but that one went unpunished from memory.

Ben smith out of this weekend's game away to t the reds with concussion protocols.

Matt faddes steps into 15 with Jack Wilson on the wing for his second super rugby appearance. Wilson spent a season at Saracens and is a current kiwi 7s squad member

2 quick tries from the Blues in 5 minutes gives them a nice lead with 35 to go. 10-20.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,963 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    22 - 20 now with 15 to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Blues get the penalty in last minute so should get a LBP for their efforts at least.

5 in a row for the Chiefs now. Bye week coming up which is needed as injuries are mounting up

I vote to close down this thread through lack of use!

'Twas an enjoyable game. For the Chiefs Retallick (as always), Graham their prop and Cruden were great.

For the Blues, I thought the 2 Ioane brothers went well, with moments from other players.

Blues will trip teams up along the way, even though they will probably finish bottom of the NZ conference.

Does Cruden have a chance at AB 10 if he's not kicking?

He's playing some great stuff, set up a fantastic try last weekend with a little kick, but he'll need to keep that up for the season to be in with a sniff I think.

Yes, I think he'll get first dibs. It's a potential problem alright, but the rest of his game has been outstanding in recent weeks. If he can kick at 75% for NZ that will probably be considered good enough.

With NMS injured, there is talk of possibly moving Ben Smith to 14 and starting McKenzie at FB.

The other option is Sopoaga who has also been in very good form, and is a better goalkicker.

No Kiwis consider Barrett in the race at all, likely to either start at 15 (Smith on the wing), or his usual bench role.

With the emergence of McKenzie, and the fact he can't crack the starting XV so far, I won't necessarily be surprised if Barrett signs for a French or UK club.

Lovely 2nd try from the crusaders. Codie Taylor looks a very good hooker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Force leading 19-13 with 20 mins left over the crusaders.
Crusaders shooting themselves in the foot with some very poor play although force haven't won there all line out all game.

Crusaders sneak the victory in the last minute. Totally deserved but made very hard work of it

Has Barrett played 13 at all? I'd say he could be pretty dangerous in attack from there

Too weak defensively. I think he'll be on the bench covering OH, FB and wing. It'll be interesting to see who gets the starting 10 jersey out of Cruden and Sopoaga. I'd go with Sopoaga at the moment.

I don't believe that Cruden not kicking for the Chiefs will affect his AB chances. They know he can kick and as long as he proves it in training they'd be happy to give him the job in the first test.
