Are these new for the Air Corp and why are they going towards Shannon?

I believe they came out of Vagar in the Faroe Islands.

Here are those two Cessna Caravans at Keflavik. They are ex-Bering Air (Alaska).

Bonkers day at Belfast International, four USAF Herks on the ground so far and another eight to come! Heading home after NATO excercise SABER JUNCTION in Germany.

Should be on the evening news.

    Some media about the exercise:

    http://www.eur.army.mil/SaberJunction/

I've lost count now, another couple have gone over Carrickfergus. Must be nearly them all now, wonder how they're squeezing them in!

Had a quick look online, C-130J takes around 36,000 litres of fuel to the caps. An A380 takes 315,000! So the entire's day throughput of Herks is only a bit more than one A380 would be, that's mad.

    Amm, no not weather.

It would also be extremely unusual for SNN to ever have that many US aircraft in one go.

It appears that Belfast secured the business on this occasion.

    Is that weather dependant?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 6,524 Mod ✭✭✭✭Irish Steve

Not as such, there's very few arrivals or departures between those times.

They are carrying out a major survey of the runway, close on 2 months work, more details at http://www.dublinairport.com/gns/at-the-airport/latest-news/15-03-30/Dublin_Airport_Runway_Survey_Works.aspx

It's weather dependent, so could get extended if they don't get it all done, and given the importance of the work, they won't be cancelling it lightly, If there was a forecast of severe weather, it might be possible to postpone, but there are very few movements that would be affected.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

First time I recall ever seeing a lander on that RWY, of course my recollection would be about that of 2 years. Rare still!

19:30UTC wind is only 9kts. Strange choice

Wind was stronger earlier today and into the afternoon, was varying around 070-110 with speeds ranging from 8kts up to 22kts at times for short periods.
